  • I wish teens would watch movies like this more, cause they teach a lot, and first of all to respect our enemies.. Sadly such a great actors as Takeshi Kitano, Tom Conti and Sakamoto Ryuichi are getting old :(

  • I have forgotten the number of times I have cried like a baby at the end of this film, I am 37 now and it still gets me every time, and the music is astonishing, Ryuchi Sakamoto is a genius.

  • I have watched this movie as a teen, and this final scene I will never forget. It shows the stupidity of war. Ending this movie with this scene and Ryuchi Sakamoto's musicpiece is just brilliant.

  • i just cried it is too beautiful

  • Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence.

  • @fugkta merry xmas mr. lawrence! merry xmas

  • Merry Christmas...

  • @Rebel2814 merry xmas

  • @MVPSSY :)

  • This is one of my all time favor Christmas Movies. Its a great film and a classic film. I watch it every christmas eve.

  • Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence

  • mind over matters...

and heart conquers minds of cultures and enemies...

  • This is one of my more favorite christmas movies. A great gem of a film,

  • This ending is the best, No insults, just 2 friends reminiscing about their time together.

  • @lilguy96 there are times when victory is very hard to take!

  • This is such a beautiful film.

  • My heart bleeds everytime I watch this. How sad is the human race.

  • This scene is universal. Superb moment of what humanity should be.

  • This movie...this scene...for us cold-war kids, how much more epic can it get. Fantastic.

  • Tom Conti is Brilliant in this...Great movie, one of the best "war movie" i've ever seen, and what a soundtrack by Captain Yonoï...Timeless

  • Takeshi Kitano).

what a great actor he is

    Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence ....

rest in peace my brother we see each other soon

  • @rink1984 Takeshi Kitano is not dead? :)

  • Every soldier is also a human and every human has feelings. In the end, everything is forgiven and no hard feelings will linger. This movie taught me humility and nothing will be forever.

  • The prisoner seems to be glanzing out of what must have once been a old strategic gun vantage point, before the cell door moves and opens. And the dialog opens.... Priceless.....

  • amazing i cry every time i watch this film

  • @abcernusa tom conti's acting just couldn't be better. cry every time as well.

  • @abcernusa me too

  • @abcernusa yeah, everytime the ending music plays I get really teary eyed.

  • 5:48 there

  • 5 people are blind and deaf for sure.

  • I watched this film when it 1st came out & here i am still watching it on dvd.As a former royal marine commando of 27 years this film has always made me think why do we become soldiers.this film is the best war film ever & truly makes you think about life & how we are to others in the field of conflict.I admit that the ending always makes me sad & respect combatants in our line of conflict just a pity that many people havnt seen it or understand the meaning of this film. The music is 1st class

  • Hi Ziggy'! Sorry i couldn't get back to you earlier but I'm glad to have some 'positive feedback'! If you can imagine the 'fusion' or Sakamoto's score with particular scenes in the movie you'll appreciate his 'score-writing' talent- and ALL of that at the age of 30! if you look up the 'wikipedia blog' you may like to get his other instrumental scores from the groups he was in. AND it's ABOUT TIME this guy did make another movie score! Regards.

  • rovery!

  • I'll try and put as much in as I can here!Ryuichi Sakamoto- one of the world's most underrated talents- not only in his sublime musical prowess, but also acting ability- 'MERRY CHRISTMAS, MR LAWRENCE' [1982- starring a magnificent performance by the inimitable David Bowie [coming 'off the back' of a near fatal heroin addiction] is one of the most underrated war depictions ever made! It should have garnered an 'Oscar' for Bowie, original score and cinematography- a hauntingly beautiful movie!

  • @meritcross You said it!!! I'm a big Bowie-"fan" and since I saw that movie I'm avid for Sakamoto's music - in fact, I started to play piano, because I wanted to hear this song, whenever i want to ;)

  • still find this ending very moving. not seen the film in a long time but myst get ot on dvd.awesome acting and music. in my 50s and still blubber when he says may i go on and on being drunk. thanx for sharing.

  • LAWRENCE !!!! Merry Christmas !!! Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence... :)

  • Just the memory of this film coupled with seeing this ending has reduced this olkd man to tears once again.

    Thank-you for uploadng this.

  • fuck me, is this not the most powerful and emotional end to any film ever made, i really can't think of one that has as emotional impact as this, for me anyway.

the beauty and power of classic cinema right there, such a wow moment. genius.

there's not much that gives me hope for human kind in the world, but this is surely one of them, even if it's fictional.

  • @bushisatwat Splendid person. You are a splendid person. I hope you... love. Kind regards.

  • Souvent, la victoire est dure d'avaler !!!!

  • La vérité est : personne a raison !!!

  • This scene stays remarkable beautiful. It's still bringing tears to my eyes....

  • If you want to watch this movie, please search "Merry Christmas Mr.Lawrence veoh" in google.

  • @hokkekensirou Or buy it...

  • @vejaji2 Te vinden als je zoekt.

  • this clip moves the emotions and makes one cry and i keep telling my self that i wouldn't watch it again, but strange i keep coming back. This guy is killing with kindness.

  • powerful scene, emotional music, perfect, thanx for sharing x

  • this crip makes me cry...other than overused music.

  • @tokyopiglet You mean the music that was originally composed for this film? :I

You're one piglet without a leg to stand on.

  • @qsazwt

  • Teared every Chiristmas.

  • Merry Christmas ! Merry Christmas !! Mr. Lawrence ・・・

  • I was searching for something else entirely when I stumbled across this here. It must be close to 25 years since I saw this film; the end (this clip) still brings me to tears. Thank you for posting.

  • I love the phrase which begins "you are the victim of men who think they're right...."

  • this movie was kind of disappointing but the ending more than makes up for it...

  • @enuya

  • wonderful film, such a moving ending..

  • listen to THIRD FLOOR - WORDS OF SILENCE... it left me :-O

  • What?

  • 5:54 Meri Chrismas mista rawlence :D

  • Greatest movie ever. Exept the flash back :P

  • Absolutely genius.

  • The Tiger of Malaya

  • This movie is made before i was born and i just watched this for first time after more than 25 years later but still amazing movie. Timeless Classic....

  • there are times when victory is very hard to take!!!!!

  • great movie. although it got slated by some

  • A masterpiece

  • one world love it - we are all made the same

  • I wish more movies today were like this.

  • yeah! definitely me all time fav!

one of the pioneers for the general rights we're enjoying now, too!

  • Takeshi Kitano... such an unpredictable man...

  • I like the score by Ryûichi Sakamoto, sounds a bit like a Hans Zimmer score.

I might look for a region1DVD not interested in the bluray format any-more for lousy dtsHDMA The film was mixed using DOLBY technology.

DOLBY STEREO in selected theatres 8:48 Dolby stereo consultant Mikio Mori

  • I love this movie. The music by Ryuichi Sakamoto's is incredible. They're all so beautiful, especially Tom Conti!

  • The part when there was silence between the two men is just kick ass

  • Saying goodbye is painful, especially when you know without any doubt that it is the final goodbyel. Kitano is perfect in this. Contis also great!

  • Fantastic film of an excellent book.

  • It¨s beautifull........

  • humanity of a wonderful kind

  • Excellent bit of the end of this show. If you haven't seen the movie go rent it. David Bowie does an excellent job. Thanks for posting this hokkekensirou.

  • wow this scene rlly made me realize how ignorant and imperfect reality can be. u nver have moments like this unless someone is about to die, but even after that happens u never hear music in the background D:

  • A very powerful scene

  • I have seen this movie alot and never get sick of it.This end scene gets me everytime, the music is so haunting and sad.The war never solved anything.

  • not good-bye i'd rather ' see you later '

  • very good video!!!

  • indiscriminate act of kindness is such a beautiful thing

    absolutely gorgeous thank-you Mr Lawrence

  • fantastic

  • I always cry with this scene.

  • This is one of the best WWII movies. Does anyone know how to get a full copy?

  • @bsircf Sure, any dvd retail outlet should have it.

  • @parksy010101 I have checked and have not found any that have a copy formatted to work with U.S. or Canadian DVD players. The only copy I have been able to find has a 6 second sound delay. Also, looked at Amazon and ebay. i

  • @parksy010101 I have checked and have not found any that have a copy formatted to work with U.S. or Canadian DVD players. The only copy I have been able to find has a 6 second sound delay. Also, looked at Amazon and ebay.

  • @bsircf well, that is very unusual. Perhaps you could download it directy? Also, you could try Video stores to see if they are able to sell a copy. Last resort - hire it, never take it back. Either pay for it r move address. It is that good of a movie. Sorry, you haven't been able to find it.

  • @bsircf its easy you buy it lol

  • @neilam6 I would if I could find it. I cannot find a copy that will play on a U.S. DVD player. It is a great movie but few people in the U.S. are familier with it.

  • @bsircf then all i can suggest is isohunt.

  • The angels that are our savors are the dreams that is love

  • A beautiful film, war can make the worst in all, but understanding the pain is how we still fight to survive. respect to all that died xxx

  • @luftwaffe789456123 Celliers is the blond one.

  • Simply one of the greatest movies ever made. Reaches down into the soul and pulls out our humanity. So humbling. Amen.

  • I love the quiet reflection of their time together, and their last laughs before Hara-sans end. It's one of the few scenes in cinema which I think is quite genius.

  • @RepublicOfVietnam This indeed a great film, even though Dave isnt Robert di Niro. Tom conti is great

  • I saw this movie and it is simply incredible! If you want to really see what the British POW's endured while in Japanese custody this movie portray's it so well. Everyone was simply following orders. Kinda what is going on now. History repeats itself. Amen.

  • Why must it be such a great movie?!

Hara helps out Lawrence and Celliers on Christmas, but sadly, Lawrence can't help out Hara on Christmas.

Sadly, the gift that can't keep on giving. :(

  • itchifanni

  • This is a classic movie scenes clips !

  • Mahalo!!

  • When you think about it, war is what shaped everyone's mind and mentality and vision of the other countries. All the prejudice and the hatred and also all the subtle things people think about other countries...it all comes from war. People can smile to each other but their difference is most often too much an obstacle to really respect each other. Anyway...I wish people really respected each other in real life and learned to not just accept, but love the difference found in the other.

  • more impressive scene than I had seen before

  • Good film.
