  • @fishyace2

    Probably!?

  • isnt that B chord the same as an G# monor 7th

  • @Taygoo15 No because the root isn't on the 11th fret of the A, that string's muted.

  • what do you recommend doing for the high B chord on an acoustic guitar? i cant even reach up there to make chords cause of the shape of my acoustic.

  • U are the best teacher on youtube! Thanks!

  • He's got the pre-chorus wrong. It's F#m - E - B - E - F#m - *four muted 16th notes*

  • @Hadouken741 if u know that make a tutorial vid showing how to play it too...sucker

  • a great teacher makes a great "chune"

  • thanks dude, super helpful, i have been playing this song wrongly for years :D

    love your work!!

  • You are an extremely nice guy, and fantastic teacher, I appreciate what you've done an awful lot,

    Than you.

  • uhhhh... what chord is 2:44 ???? no matter what i do i can't get it right and i'm NOT going through thousands of chords and websites to find the right one please answer as soon as possible.

  • @yyuuggps3 its an E major x79997. Its the same chord as used in the verses. Its based on the A major open chord but just moved up 7 frets

  • In the chorus section, the third chord that is played is B if I'm not mistaken. I watched a video here where John plays through the song and from what I can tell he hits 9-11-12-11 on the D-G-B-E strings. Plus, I'm pretty sure the guys from Lick Library also think it's a B, but they play it with a A-string root ( on the 14th fret of the A ). And about moving the shape - from what I saw, John just put his first finger down on the first string while playing the F# and accented on that.

  • thank you man! good lesson!

  • it sounds better when you use only the 3 chords, going back to the F sharp, and not using that 4th chord

  • @rumblebellie1 actually change my mind, use all 4 chords

  • Cheers dude, helped a lot, better than my real guitar teacher!

  • you're the absolute best

  • Wanna know how I know Justin is real and not full of shit?

That chord he plays during the Outro @5:04, I've watched John Fru play this song so much times and I notice that he keeps that same chord formation, moves it up one fret and then down two frets. Justin moves it up one then moves his pinky, but it still sounds good.

You know he does it all by ear and not tabs.

Love Justin, thank you sooo much for teaching me this wonderful classic.

  • what is the name of the 3rd chord of the chorus ???

  • hey what are the settings you use for your amps and which pickups do you switch to?

  • thanks! i really hope to get some more lessons of RHCP' songs.

  • thx a lot man, ur amazing :P that really helped me

  • legend, thanx ;-)

  • THANKS

  • i really hope you get paid a lot for this cuz this really helped me

  • thnx Mr.etc.... lol.. thnx anyway

  • Great! Thanx mate! I was playing this song for years, but in this lesson ive finally found, how to play ref right... - i mean, like John is playing with B 3rd chord! Really good lesson, take care

  • Justin you are great teacher, thanks a lot man!

  • You are a fantastic teacher. Well done!

  • hero

  • great lesson justin i love your abilty to teach an jb1563700 is right about the outro part i watch the john frusciante video of under the bridge an he does use his first index finger to lift up and down on the outro he goes into the last chord with his first finger up thanks

  • ur an amazing teacher reli

  • Thank god for people like you that know how to give a lesson. I have a show to play in three days and I wanted to throw this beautiful song in and you have helped tremendously. Thanks a million!

  • Man... the outro is a masterpiece...

    It's like a song inside a song...

  • The outro's a bit off i think... When he plays that FMaj7 chord, he hammers on from the open string to the 1st fret on the B string. I personally think the way Justin plays it sounds too... cheery or something

  • Thanks so much Justin for the videos your an amazing teacher, im gonna use these to learn so many more guitar songs! cheers!

  • hey!tks a lot! This is great!

As usual your lessons are awesome!

  • It's just clean sound no effects needed

  • pa kakav si ti to srbin kad ne znaš engleski???

  • i think the ending sounds better with an A chord as the second chord then the c shaped chord what justin plays moved down on the 3rd fret to the 1st fret as normal,

  • love this song, you're the best teacher ive seen and not just on the internet, im still practising getting it all up to speed, wkd fun learning it tho

  • you are a really good teacher, the best i've seen on internet, so keep going and i hope you will keep on uploading lessons

  • good tutorial dude, thanks for taking the time to do it.

Frusciante must be like a guitar ninja or something just to come up with something so cool.

  • man im getting god at the Hendrix bit :) your the best Justin!!

  • not your hands comparative sizes

    rather comparative abilities imo

  • true.

  • i have big fingers and i have a lot of dificulty play

  • honestly man..it could be true that it makes it difficult ( i wouldnt know im not a teacher, nor do i have big hands) but the worst thing you can do is convince yourself that its difficult or impossible.

It takes hours of practice to be good at anything and this is especially true for a musical instrument. Don't get yourself down.

  • Having small hands makes playin like Hendrix even harder right? I've noticed he had huge hands

  • thats not an excuse to not learn it, i have big hands and its still difficult, its just hard either way i think

  • I have small hands also. Remeber the key word, Justin says, "It took me years of practice" Things dont come overnight, but they come, providing you put the work in. Try the guitar shops a different guitar might be better suited for you. you can also try different wrist and hand positions

  • its not really the hands its more the fingers. I think in general long fingers give you an advantage as long as they arent meaty, if you have big meaty fingers you might have trouble. I have reasonably short fingers, which sucks a bit for the thumb over stuff....

  • that one chord just sounds soooo wrong...

    is it?

probably fits somehow but alone its just weird.

  • haha uber perfect

  • thanks for this man, you are a great teacher, man this was hard but u taught it in such a great and detaild way thanks :)

  • haha was i the only person who found "etc" at 0:42 extremely funny?

  • yes

  • lol, i guess its sorta random

  • thanks I really enjoyed your lessons. Keep up with posting Greetings from the otherside ( holland) Dennis

P.S Can you maybe teech snow (hey oh)??

  • Justin Iike that Fender Jaugar sucks that it goes out of tuning though you should get that fixed then that would be the perfect guitar .
