  • This was a multimedia effort with Lucasfilm and Lucasarts for Nintendo, Windows, Kenner, Dark Horse Comics, and Bantam Books. While it's true that Lucas considered doing a similar story as a film it would have only been during the 80's and only if Lucas could muster the funds, time, and effort in order to get the project done, and this is the big one this could have been a film only if the story was given to him in that time period.

  • George needs to green-light Shadows and Zahn's Thrawn trilogy into animated features like Clone Wars. Hell, give us Dark Empire 1!

Its so annoying how George doesn't do this. If they can do it for things like Dead Space and Halo, then I'm sure it can happen for Star Wars.

  • I was gonna call George up when i as 17 and ask him if he and I could make this movie but its too late now

  • well I've got the book at least :-)

  • They never intended to make it into a film, sad to say. I'm sure if the idea was thought of nowadays, it might have been made as a CGI-animated film much like Clone Wars. The adventure was a nice pre-Special Edition project and was quite popular at the time. however, the story, along with its characters have dwindled into obscurity. Lucas later focused his attention on the prequel characters so Shadows is now the 90's equivalent to what 'Splinter of the Mind's Eye' was to the 70's.

  • Damn, they should have gone through with this! And then the secondary antagonist in the prequel trilogy could have been Black Sun rising to power, instead of the trade federation.

Would have been great. If Lucas hadn't directed it.

  • aww man ! if tey made tiz into a movieh , it wouldve been sickin kool !!!

  • i never heard of this movie.

  • protip: nintendo 64

  • Ive heard somewhere he was based off of kevin costner and elvis.

  • i never thought this existed!

  • Back then when i wanted the movie made, i pictured Val Kilmer as Dash. The way he used to act in Willow reminded me of a poor mans Harrison Ford.

  • I hated all things star wars after the release the 2nd trilogy, until i saw the cut scenes from Star Wars - Dark Force Unleashed. This apprentice character rocks, just like dash rendar. could've game em a better looking ship though, but you can't beat his droid and spunky (and beautiful) co-pilot.

Best part is, he's also included in the Soul Calibur IV sword fighting video game, alond with yoda and vader!

  • this was acutally almost a film before the origanal trilogy re-release

  • Darth Nihilus and Xizor and the Wookie war against the Bossk's and the search for Han Solo via Bounty Hounter's

  • 'shadows' should have been made into a movie

  • Especially if they threw Dash Rendar into the mix.

  • I could picture Bruce Willis back in his Die Hard 1/2 days to be Dash Rendar.

  • he woulda been a kick-ass Dash..though all I can picture is Leia saying..Mclain:P

  • Even though most of the actors were too old to look like themselves before Return of the Jedi, i'm sure it still would have been a cool film. Maybe they could have focused more on the obscure characters like Dash Rendar, Xizor, and Boba Fett. That would leave out major plotlines with Luke, Leia, and Lando though...I'd still take this storyline over the new episodes anyday.

  • I'm surprised they didn't go with a 3-D film, like with TMNT last year. In fact they could still do it, the old cast would just need to come in to do voices. If done right, it would be praised higher than the disappointing prequels.

  • Yea, I'd def go see it. As long as they don't make it cheesy like what happened with TMNT. I wouldn't mind an illustrated film either.

  • i always say they should have made shadows of the empire in 3d animation like reboot or sumthing it would sell like fuckin nuts id be all over that

  • I don't see how they could have done it anyway, in live action atleast. Everyone was too old to believably play their pre-Return of the Jedi selves.

  • acually this was a trailer for the video game. thats why it says Lucas Arts Nintendo 64 on the bottom. Shadows was never intended for a movie. In 1997 rumors started circulating that Lucas was making a new starwars film. Most fans thought it was Shadows, but it ended up being Phantom Menace.

  • Not just the video game; it mentions the publishing company that made the book, and also the comic book company.

  • true, i forgot about that. and there were a new line of action figures based on Shadows too.

  • they should have made it into a film, Shadows of The Empire was a great story.

  • no they actually thought about it at one point

  • No mr i cant ever double check info your on the internet ya silly git do some fact checking. Lucas said that if he had the story, money and special effects back when he was making the trilogy he would of made this into a inbetween movie.

  • @treklover1109 I'm VERY knowledgeable regarding Star Wars and much of the EU and I've NEVER heard of ANY indication they seriously thought of making this a film. This was intended to be exactly what we got...a mutli-format campaign crossing over through books (a canon novel: where it all started), music (there was an actual soundtrack made for the BOOK), video games (Nintendo 64), toys, & comics. Each one told the story from a different viewpoint (the comics focused on the bounty hunters').

  • it never was intended as a movie, thats why the trailer was taken off air, to avoid making people think it was another movie
