I walked into a Bose store at Cheshire oaks this week, slapped my iPhone on this SD10 just browsing, upon hearing how clean the unit performed my phones music I intend to buy this in January on payday, it blew me away in a large ish shop so I imagine it will blast in my bedroom, the asking price is £485 which is plenty for a box with a remote however the sound it produced to my ears sounded fantastic, i have not heard the B&W unit mentioned, but have owned 2 sets of there speakers before, how
@oNyXdumans before I heard the B & W Zeppelin air so what I'm a bit inside the bose I did not zeppelin air would be powerful enough. but when I tested it in the store, I was deeply impressed, such an incredible deep bass and play fairly loud without cracking up.
the sound was incredible well detailed you could hear many details, so you could not with bose. the only bose survived better than zeppelin air was to play a little louder.
I looked for a long time for a nice home stereo. By far the Dr. Dre Monster stereo rocks. I saw a guy turn it up and the Bose vibrated off the shelf. It was amazing. The guy at Best Buy told me that they sell like hot cakes.
Lets cut through the BS here, his SoundDock 10 is very well build and offer great sound quality for an iPod dock. I have the B&W Zeppelin ,BOSE SoundDock 10 and ordered the Geneva monster dock(over 80lbs!) and the SoundDock 10 sound very good. I do not like the Bose Acoustic Mass speakers ,and own Dynaudio's Contour and Confidence, B&W Nautilus plus Klipsch Palladium.
The SD10 is well build, sounds good and competes well with the B&W Zeppelin.
i got B&W zeppelin which worked for only 3 weeks. finally i returned it and exchanged it with this one, i have been using it from the last 3 months with not even a single problem yet sometime i do use it for house parties at really high volume still works amazingly. some people own bose from the last 10 years and still sounds perfect. if B&W is the best quality then why would it last for only 20 days.
Maybe you should have got a new Zeppelin. Not all products that come off the assembly line are going to work, no matter how good a company's products are.
i saw that thing on the airport bose stands. its only oh wellll ... like 600!!!!!! what the fuck bose needs to keep their price tag under control 600 is just to much. any one disagree?
@lavakava Bose is a premium brand compared to what? Sure, it may be to Wal Mart. But, check out brands like Paradigm, B&W, and PSB; all of which make stuff that is in Bose's price range, and even less. I dare you to compare their products to Bose, especially ones costing the same, and then say Bose is a premium brand. Check out my videos for a start.
And if you wanna know premium brand, Bose is chump change. The highest-end Paradigm system would cost about $50,000.
that's my point...which idiot in their right mind would shell out 50k for a sound system...unless they are a millionaire who don't know what to do with their money.
i have listened to bose, nakamichi, sansui, dynaudio, tannoy, adam audio, polk audio...these are all within similar price range between 1500-10000 bucks...and bose takes its own..though i prefer dynaudios and nakamichis better.
@lavakava I'd LOVE to own a $50,000 surround system. I've heard what speakers in that price range can do, and it's amazing.
Compared to Paradigm and Wharfedale, the brands I'm most familiar with, when I heard the Lifestyle 48, it was worse than what I thought it would be. I would never suggest it to anyone; even if saving space was their goal. Marantz makes a nice compact receiver that would do great.
@falkenlaser Bose all in one HT systems are garbage IMO. The Bose SoundDock 10 is a very good "speaker dock" for the iPod. Sound quality is very good considering the unit's size and intent...even the B&W Zeppelin is no high-end device.
My lower cost Totem ROKK make the B&W Zeppelin sound ordinary. Lets not bring up by Klipsch PALLADIUM or Dynaudio Confidence... its a bloodbath.
@bsod4u2 I've been hearing good things about the SD10. Bose intended it to compete with the Zeppelin though; it costs the same, and basically is the same design (woofer + speakers) but with Bose's 10+ year old technology in it (Waveguide and Twiddler).
But lol I know about the REALLY high end. I've heard the Wilson Audio Maxxes and WATT/Puppies; $50,000 and $25,000 a pair. It's funny when Bose fanboys think their crap is "the best", and think people that don't like Bose just can't afford it.
the performance of this system is revolutionary! I heard it in Best buy, but it is a bit overpriced for the amount of sound you get out of it... I think I will stick with Bose Companion 3 Series II... That might sounds as good, if not better...
(dj's@)
No they don't. I'd just stay away from Bose products in general. They're extremely overpriced low-quality products and are sold through very good marketing. Pretty much look elsewhere. If you're looking for like the best, look at the B&W Zeppelin. It's the same price as the SoundDock 10, and it looks like Bose basically took the design and recycled their old technology into it.
I haven't heard the SD10, but I've heard their other high-end products, and they sound terrible for how much they cost. The $4000 Lifestyle 48 has the sound quality and features of a $600 HTiB system. Watch my videos. They show what you CAN get for $4000.
The SD10 physically isn't as good as the B&W Zeppelin. The Zeppelin has separate drivers for the highs and mids, while the Bose SD10 just has two "twiddlers", which don't have near the frequency range separate drivers produce.
@ande320 The Bose SD10 has a 4 in. woofer, while the Zeppelin has a 5 in. woofer. So no, Bose does not have a bigger woofer (and neither of these drivers are "subwoofers").
@ande320 The SD10 is 8.7 inches tall. A 7 inch woofer in a WaveGuide wouldn't even fit in it. And, Bose even has a picture of the woofer the SD10 uses, and it is certainly not 7 inches if you look at it. Plus, I have been told many times that it has a 4 incher.
Also, again, unless you judge a sound system's quality based on how "loud" it is, "loud" doesn't equal sound quality, as in how well does it accurately reproduce the sound on a recording compared to the Zeppelin? (highs, lows, etc.).
I've been checking out reviews on Bose SoundDocks and it's amazing to see sooooooo many Brits posting their put-downs of Bose while trying to make a big deal out of their British-made Zeppelin. What dorks.
That Zeppelin may in fact make good sound, who knows. But one thing is for sure, it SURE LOOKS LIKE A STUPID LOW-FLYING BANANA!
Why on earth would anyone make a sound-device that looks like that goofy Zeppelin? I tend to like British taste, but THAT thing...
After doing some intense research for like months finally i got this one, its really going good so far. the most striking feature is the base, you wont believe you are hearing to a sound dock. like i was sleepy and listening to music at the same time on this. literally i had to get up once to see if i didnt turn on my home theatre as the base was so extreme. but its not portable as its soo damn heavy. i feel like music circulates in the air. really good as a sounddock,
i totally agree that this one is better then the b w zeppelin... im german and here it costs 800 euros which is 1150 dollars... its almost the douple of amount what u guys pay in the us... that fuckin sucks...
The B&W Zeppelin iPod dock, which is the same price as this, would destroy it. This thing has those "twiddlers," which it relies on to make the whole upper sound spectrum. The Zeppelin has tweeters, which produce the highest frequencies, and the mid-ranges produce the mid-frequencies, so it's much more dynamic. And, this thing's drivers are very, very cheaply made. The Zeppelin's are made of better, (and at the same time more expensive, showing this Bose is overpriced) materials.
The laws of physics defy it from being so. 2 1.5 inch drivers (the "twiddlers") cannot reproduce the whole upper sound spectrum as good as separate drivers of different sizes can, which is what the Zeppelin has (2 1.5 inch tweeters and 2 3.5 inch mid-range drivers). Also, a former Bose salesperson told me that the "woofer" in the SD10 is 4 in., and the woofer in the Zeppelin is 5 in., so the Zeppelin can play lower. And, the Zeppelin's build quality is much, much better.
How do you know the SD10 has 150 watts? Bose doesn't post any of their specs.... But anyway, the the B&W Zeppelin has more drivers (2 tweeters, 2 3.5 in. mid-range drivers, and a 5 in. woofer), while the Bose SD10 has 2 "twiddlers" and a 4 in. woofer. Because the Zeppelin has more drivers that are bigger, it's moving more air than the SD10 has. It's also most likely more efficient than the SD10; it takes less power to get loud. And, it simply sounds better. I'd take SQ over "loud" any day.
You gotta make some ridiculous concessions for the "privilege" of owning this latest Bose sounddock. The two biggest drawbacks: 1. It doesn't charge your iPhone or iPod while on the dock. 2. It has no physical controls on the dock itself. You have to use their remote control to control simple functions like volume. If the remote breaks, you're screwed.
