I like most of Green Day's music (save a few on American Idiot and all of 21st Century Breakdown), and I like musicals. But Green Day's music should not be made into a musical, it's not that kind of music. I could understand a straight play that featured Green Day's music as maybe a background or setting thing, that's based on the story of American Idiot. But I think the vocals and dancing is too weird for punk.

With a combination of the bad singing, the random ass muscle spasms they were having on stage, and how it sounded like they were trying to beatbox or something weird like that, this just looks horribly bad. It's like they took the cast of Glee and tried putting it in AI form or something. None of these people can match the true rebel, understood feeling Billy put in the Album. Even though the AI album isn't amazing in my mind, they could have done a lot better with this.

I hate it when people say they've sold out. So what they're doing well for themselves? in my opinion they still make amazing music, seem like really nice guys, give alot to charity, you never really hear about them in the media because they keep to themselves. Its a nice try, but the whole musical is a epic fail. You cant let a bunch of dancers bring the feeling of American Idiot on stage. The story is the most important reason for me to listen to AI again and again. But its not the same w/o Billie. He is the heart of all these songs.

This farce is the worst thing ever...but then the original album was exactly as heartfelt and the message as authentic as these fake plastic punks cavorting around the stage like a bunch of epileptic teenagers on Ritalin. Take a minute to read Billie Joe's original description of how they came up with it; he basically says the label asked him to write a political album, so he did. It had little to do with his own feelings

Their producer told them either start over or write something new and because they didn't feel it was their best work they continued to write and American Idiot was born. The whole point of the album is about American teenagers being lost because of what the media has shown them: drugs, sex, war etc.
