Part of what I like about it over HD tracks is that there are genuine landmarks. HD looks like a patchwork of uncharacteristic Unreal Engine textures.

This track was fantastic, you go up a hill reminiscent of Monaco sector one, glimpse a blimp, glide into a tunnel, pass a bullet train, bolt through a quasi salom, flow through a series of long turns and finish with a massive jump on a huge straight.

I don't think anything in HD comes close to that sort character and varied challenge.

I love this track - so dark and austere. Perhaps the minimalism was partly due to the constraint of running on a PS1, but even so I find it more beautiful than the random clutter of the HD/Fury tracks.

This is the best track of the best game ever!! I used to get perfect runs in the AG systems but kudos for doing it in the Qirex. Should have had body in motion playing over it though ;)

when i got my PS1 there was a demo disc with this stage. i think i played the demo a thousand times before Wipeout 2097 became my first PS1 game.

and i remember red bull was doin a wipeout 2097 competition in my town with linked consoles and beamers, but i was too young to take part, they wouldn't let me <.<

God this game changed my life-- and this was my favorite level........ Makes you wonder how bad ass games could be today if they had the same talent to put together. (The Designers Republic, etc. etc.)

i like the fact you guys are talking about the correct way to turn in etc. it was definitely the most advanced game from a control point of view, as in how to take the corners, control your ship etc. they should remake this game with better graphics. You had to think aerodynamics its true, the position of the nose was important when u went up or down hills. Formula 1 will be like this in 200 years i reckon, minus the weapons

This track and the Black Sea course were vicious nightmares to race. Doing this in the Qirex is quite impressive. You make this look too easy, even in an expert-level ship like the Qirex. Expert course with an expert ship = awesome. And I believe on YouTube, awesome warrants five stars, so enjoy these five stars!

or just before the exit of the red&black tunnel. you can fly above the micro-chicane like that. dude a perfect lap is a perfect lap but if you want serious times you got to go like that. i remember playing 2097 years earlier in the end i would play spilskinnanke phantom w/ piranha and be first at the end of first lap. try that, then come back to talk 2 me.

yeah well i dont suck either. first of all he wobbles too much. he's also using too much airbrake. what you need to do is A)pull up the nose whenever you know you'r going to bump in the road, and then B)the correct technique for turning in 2097 is diagonal down (left or right)on the d-pad and THEN add a touch of airbrake to correct your turn. also, he keeps the turbo when he should have used it earlier. a good place in gare d'europa is just before the crack n the track.

Uh, Assayeah is well known for being one of the best Wipeout 2097/XL players... And keeping your nose up in this track (or in general) will only slow you down, unless you're trying to make a shortcut, which is possible in some levels.

200% agree with you . It adds so much more feeling of immersion and also you only focuse on what is immediately in front of your eyes and not watching where your ship is to the track like on 3rd person view.

cheers for memories man love this so retro. Its like something really cool like samual l jackson or getting your first decent fast car you know. You play this and its just got cool written all over. Its got soul as well as designers republic were so awesome.

This vid you made, is wipeout 2097 pc version? Because I tried to frap me playing wipeout but for some reason the framerate drops to 7-8 fps. So can you tell me how you made this vid, please?

Actually i am playing with original psx. Those videos ( 3 years old) have been done by pluging my psx to my VCR and then transferring the vhs to my pc ( using a pc video capture card and s-video cable to my vcr). then using Virtual dub mod to make a cool Divx.

I can't answer you about your 2097/XL Pc issue : i am not an expert to this, maybe you shall ask a question to 2097 forum from wipeoutzone(dot)com
