There's a blooper at the end; you can hear Herry munching on the "M" a couple of seconds before he takes a bite on the letter. This probably indicates the Muppeteers were lip-synching their characters to a pre-recorded soundtrack (this song originally appeared on an LP).

This is in fact a visual provision - the song itself originally appeared in the Muppets' ABC album in 1971, in which the Muppets discuss the alphabet through song and sketch; this song covered "M" - later that year, many of the songs & sketches made it to the show; others didn't - this one did - the most famous one of that album, of course, is "C Is For Cookie" (covering "C")

Cookies were Cookie Monster's favorite food, but clearly not the only food he liked! Just like in his "C is for cookie" song where he says of a doughnut, "But it is not as good as a cookie." Not AS GOOD indicates it is still GOOD in his opinion!

Of course, in addition to food we know he also likes to eat magic wands, trucks, snow, matresses, ties and Guy Smiley!
