My Dad purchased a used D9D direct drive with a cable blade to play with clearing land in Western Washington, when I was in HS. I have to tell you that compared to what we had before which was a 17A D7, it was a world beater of a land clearing machine, Job was to take the stumps and the alders, and pile them up cleanly for burning, leaving the evergreens. Machine could clear approximately 2 acres a day with an inexperienced operator (me) on it. You learn pretty fast, and the foreman helped.
I learned on a D7 cable Cat. How many times did you spool out too much when lowering the blade? LOL Once you got the hang of it no problem. Did snap the cable once and it was pain to replace. Hydraulics are so much better.
man we rebuilt one of these when i worked for carolina tractor from the ground up for duke power. they brought each peice to the paint shop division where i worked and i had to blast it peice by peice, then they got it all back together and brought it back as one unit which i had to blast yet again. i would give my left testicle to climb back in the operators seat of one though, what a thrill
I am not joking when I say - wow that is so cool. I wish that I had that thing when I got my datsun patrol bogged in the sand the other day! Haha I mean it was really badly bogged! Actually it was so badly bogged that I doubt that this big tractor would have even pulled it out! I love farming machinery! Thanks for the vid!

Stinger or ripper rubbing on rock. when it finds a crack or soft spot it sinks and rips it up. Hence ripper. Worse than finger nails on chalkboard.
