I would say it was a technological limit, a financial limit and the fact that many of these actors did dozens of these movies a year and couldn't do them in a cast. You would notice that not only do they slow down the action, they would use dozens of replays, but inject odd scenes such as a cat playing (Bruce Lee Vs Chuck Norris), birds flying, the sun setting etc. All of that was to lengthen the action, because that's basically what these movies where. Forget plot and character development.

this must have been the first time you've seen an old school chinese kung fu movie. I know, at first, I thought this slow mo stuff looked wierd too, but this is how these kung fu movies are. The fight is supposed to be a performance, like a small play, rather than for the sake of the violence.

ive read everthing about bruce and jackie. Jackie doesnt do 100% of all his stunts. He stop doing that after rumble in the bronx. bruce lee never did his own stunts but then again his films didnt require much stunt work.
