  • suck your boyfriends cock FAGGOT LOSER

  • @dubucai - not at all! Glad you enjoyed it! This video feels like it was ages ago! Haha

  • How nice the video is... I shared it on my facebook wall, tell me if you mind.

  • u didn't study hard enough.... during the new years Chinese people will have fireworks all night to ward of evil spirits and hang red lanterns to scare away those spirits =D then sing 恭喜恭喜 lol

  • It's one thing to study it. It's another thing to experience it. haha. Good luck in China man!

  • do the chinese like westerners more than the japanese?

  • Yes

  • How safe would you say China is? Im trying to convince my parents to let me go on a foriegn exchange there this summer. Thanks!

  • Come to Beijing!! I would say that Beijing is easily just as safe as the states. Plus there are guards everywhere here so there's just no chance of anything going amiss. Hope to see you here soon!

  • Actually I felt safer in Beijing, than in Omaha Nebraska. I think Beijing is pretty safe.

  • Dude you should talk to the people i met last night. They just came back to the US from japan where they were teaching english. their stories LOL they crack me up! I wish i had video taped it last night because we were all rolling. Talking about how nothing is based off of rules or laws, just if that person has seen it before, and if not they will always refer to two other people and you hope like hell they have seen it or youre screwed..ie Middle Names. hahaha Great Vid!

  • thats what my mate was talking about.. let mei guo ren sleep lol

  • 2-9-09 is the Lantern Festival ,Chinese New Year does't come to an end before 2-13-09,which is 1-18 in the Lunar Calendar.Since u live in China , I think u should learn something about our culture to live better. Firework is part of traditional customs for our new, it has more meanings than just having fun. We all know there're disadvantages , but I believe most Chinese enjoy it and it will be improved to cause less damages.

  • I didn't say 2-9-09 was Lantern Festival. It just happened to be the date that I posted the video. I date all my videos that way. Thanks for the comment!

  • the fireworks are more dangerous for girls, cause the boys aim it at girls walking the streets. its horrible. love ur videos!

  • Sweet I'm moving to Shenyang in August, I had noooo idea it was like this!

  • haha, yeah. its way fun (at first. lol) enjoy the show~!

  • u know u dont have to go/stay there if u dont like it.

be respectful to other people's tradition. u will never understand how meaningful the new years are to Chinese people.

  • lol. who said I didn't like my life in China? As a foreigner, all I can realistically observe is glimpses of another culture unfamiliar to me and interpret them from my own perspective. If all those interpretations were positive, then I wouldn't be being honest with everyone watching my videos. But as far as I can tell, the only thing negative I have ever said about China is that 17 nights of fireworks seems excessive, so I don't feel bad.

  • Many Chinese also think that 17 days of fireworks are excessive. The vast majority of my taxi drivers think that fireworks are a waste of money and dangerous. A lifeguard at my uni's pool had his face scarred by an errant firework and I had shrapnel hit me on the way home last night. More than US$10 billion of damage was caused by a firework setting a Beijing skyscraper on fire. In the 90's, only electric fireworks were legal. It's not just Chris that thinks this many fireworks are excessive. :)

  • hey there!

i'm one of the new members of riot act, and i was positively bored out of my mind one day so i began channel surfing. i'm so glad i did, because i stumbled upon your videos! they're just lovely! the "engrish" ones get me laughing every time, and i've never been to asia, so it's so nice to learn about it's people and culture. just wanted to drop a line and give you mad props. hope the fireworks are starting to cease! =)

  • Oh hey!

I've heard your name, but (obviously) have never met you... so it was really nice to see your comment! Yeah, the Engrish videos was one that I figured would really help drive home the point of how ridiculous English is here in China. Thanks again for checking out my videos... I'm having a blast here in China, but am also really looking forward to coming back to UD to work with you guys again!

    Chris

  • well, it's nice to meet you! (this totally counts). how long have you been in china? what are you studying? i'm sorry if i'm asking too many questions! =)

  • Sounds like fun (not)! :P

That totally sucks. It would take me a while to get used to sleeping during all of those noises and flashes. Then I would just get tired and grumpy and be totally upset about everything and it would spiral out of control.

  • haha, yeah i heard that. There have definitely been times where I make it to bed at like 3 and then get woken up at 4 thanks to some moron setting off fireworks next to my window. There has been shouting from windows and fist shaking, but mostly I'm scared to do that because I dont want fireworks exploding in my face! haha.

  • Do earplugs work? ;)

  • haha, i admittedly have no idea where I could even find earplugs in china. An ipod works... or sometimes just burying your head under lots and lots of pillows. haha.

  • It's a war outside for gods sake! Haha!

The transition from your windows, to elevator to street is epic! Haha! War for sure. :P

    It's China. :p

  • Yeah, the first night, i was like OH MAN! THIS IS CRAZY! but then my thinking was more along the lines of like.... this is pretty much like living in Israel with marginally less chance of dying. Definitely a war zone. haha. thanks for the comment!

  • Hahaha! I've never been to a Chinese New Years' celebration. I guess it's a bit like the Philippines, where crackers go off ALL the time for no reason whatsoever. :P

Wow, that street shot is really, really intense. Sounds like some sort of cheery, colourful bombing blitz.

That's odd that there's no birthdays; I guess it's convenient.

I see you can speak Mandarin. Better than I can actually; mine's broken and I have the worst accent (or so people tell me).

    Cheers Chris,

    Dustin

  • Yeah, its just arbitrary explosions all over the country for weeks on end What makes things worse is that the fireworks are set off in between apartment buildings so that everything echoes and intensifies. Its pretty rough for sure. Yeah, the birthday thing threw me for a loop... I would miss presents too much to adopt that system. haha I will put up a video of me speaking mandarin eventually, mine is ok, but definitely has its flaws. I'm sure your accent cant be as bad as spanish students here

  • Sweet lord man, when you showed the video of outside it was like Baghdad in the middle of an air strike! You would think after a week everything would die down. People just don't know when to quit!

  • hahaha, yeah, right!?!? You would think they would get sick of it... you would think. But its all night. All over the city. lol. I pretty much live on the Gaza Strip by now.

  • 1) I'm so glad I wasn't there for New Years...

    2) This video is quite pertinent after what happened last night! (Next to the CCTV building)

  • YEAH! those pictures are insane!!! It happened right after I recorded this video... one of my friends was down on the street by chance and walked out of a restaurant only to see a building fully ablaze. darn fireworks

  • WHAT THE SHIT?! it must reek from all those explosions. once i was at a firework show and i was so close with the fam and we had this great icecream..ohbutwaht? you say that the icream tasted like sulfur now because of so much firework smokes? yes. oh my heck this vid is so bizarre, how does anyone think or live "who likes to hear loud bangs in their noise?!" pretty interesting birt-day stuff

  • Hahaha, yeah its a pretty crazy tradition, i think. And I have no idea how anyone lives or thinks or does any life activities... but everything does smell like sulfur and is covered in firecracker paper. its pretty rough. Sorry your ice cream got ruined, Lieutenant Dan!

  • Hope you had fun celebrating, unfortunately, I won't be able to take Japanese for the next 3 years until university since my Japanese teacher is leaving. I'm really distraught about that. But i also wanted to ask, how do you pay to go to Japan? I know we both come from a poor family.

    Thanks Chris

  • Oh wow! I'm really sorry to hear about your Japanese situation, man. Initially, I went to Japan via a study abroad. It was a little expensive, but cheaper than vacationing there, and I also got to take classes. The second month was actually covered by a scholarship that I got through my university. Every year they select one student to stay in Japan for an additional month and do a government internship. I sucked up for it for like a year. lol. Then, I crashed at friends apartments for a month.

  • Lucky, I was wondering, how do you meet your friends who actually stay in Japan?

  • I actually met most of them during my first month in Japan. While studying in Kobe, I met lots of cool people, and emailed them a lot during my stay in Sendai. When it came time to start planning my final month, I just sent out an email to all my new Japanese friends and asked if anyone was able to let me stay at their place for a week or so. Japanese people are extremely hospitable, and I didn't have a hard time finding places to stay.

  • fristly, sorry to have bothered u so much about our fireworks.anyway,it is just one of our traditions.......i ve been kind of ur video fan for a long time...already watched all of urs...somehow,seems that u always keep some prejudice against china or chinese people..that is not that good.anyway,i am always ur vid fan, enjoy ur time in beijing...take care.....^^

  • Hey thanks for your comment! Usually with my videos, I like to make distinctions between Chinese and American culture. This may sound like prejudice, but I really love being here. The Chinese people are lovely, and I have made lots of friends here. I am glad that you watch my videos, and am sorry if it sounded like I carry prejudice against Chinese culture. Some of my best friends here are Chinese, and I only hope to spread Chinese culture to Americans watching my videos. Thanks for watching!!!

  • that's great. and by great, I mean insane. i can't even imagine 7 days of that. let us know when it finally stops and if it feels weird to have silence.

  • hahaha. yeah. all i can say is that it has been rough, and that the only peace and quiet you get is if you go to a cafe someplace in the very center of a shopping mall where you are isolated from the outside. It has been lots of fun, though... at first... I'm just ready for some quiet now though.

  • lol I was in China for two years... in more rural areas you'd hear firecrackers going off everday... the opening of a new business... someone getting married etc... as for noise... avoid brand -new/unfinished apartment blocks as tennants do home improvement through the night regardless... luckily there is a law... they will temporarily stop for... it's kinda like... if it don't affect me directly then I'm going to do it... have you tried headphones... mp3... don't have'm so loud you go deaf lol

  • haha. yeah, i have definitely increased my frequency of ipod walking when I go outside at night. I'm sure it must be pretty rough in rural China too... Oh man... there's so many fireworks. Thanks for the tips, man!
