haha i was just looking at miata videos and clicked on this cuz it looked cool. Turns out its my car lol. Yeah its the MP62 with 10 pounds of boost on stock internals.
Turbo's are constantly putting the engine under boost where as superchargers only create boost under acceleration. If you run more than 8psi on your supercharger you should replace your internals since you are at higher odds of having a engine problem. I have a friend who runs 14 psi on his turbo miata with stock internals. biggest thing make sure you have it tuned right thats where problems start.
Yes, if you run the S.C. at its original boost setting; stock setting is usualy 5-6 psi. Check out moss motors for mazda, the Jackson Racing S.C. kit runs for 2,195 dollars pluss tax.
You got that back to front my friend, superchargers boost permanently because they're driven by the crank. Turbo's only start to boost once the engine expells gas fast enough to create positive pressure in the intake, usually by about 2500 - 3000 rpm under acceleration. I prefer turbo's as its free power, 100% efficient, whereas a 'charger uses some of what it creates because of the extra load on the crank. Whichever you use, regular dyno's and lots of guages will keep your pockets healthy!
You are correct that a turbo has a higher efficiency than a supercharger because the supercharger is driven by the crank. However, the engine still has to drive the turbo by pushing exhaust gases through it which takes more power than just pushing them out your exhaust pipe does.
Also if you're talking purely about efficiency then you have to take into account friction within the device. In practice a supercharger is roughly 70% efficient while a turbo is about 80-85%.
How much did the kit cost you?

Does the engine suffer the same way when you go for a supercharger instead of a turbo? Do you have to change internals when using S.C. ? thx

So a S.C. under 7psi will be fine? how much?
leotmobile 4 years ago
Yes, if you run the S.C. at its original boost setting; stock setting is usualy 5-6 psi. Check out moss motors for mazda, the Jackson Racing S.C. kit runs for 2,195 dollars pluss tax.

My car is about 10.5 psi. Stock internals. It runs awesome with no issues. (my car being the one in the video)
speedshifter326 2 years ago
Sorry. You're wrong. Neither a turbo nor a s/c puts the engine under boost "all the time".
Modern turbos and modern s/c's only create boost under the load of acceleration.
And where did that 8psi number come from? I've got 10.5psi on my stock internals (soon to be 12) and it's perfectly safe.
