Listen guys there's no wheelspin at 80 mph. The mechanical speedo runs off the rear tires. When they spun on launch, the speedo jumped straight to 30 and climbed. If this car will do 30 a half second after he lets out the clutch, we've got a blown alcohol burner here.

@naher1 I'm pretty sure if he spent $60,000 on building the car, he probably had $15 to buy the proper speedo drive gear. The speedo goes to 130 in the first place.
I had a 78 with a stroker(383ci 400+hp) and 2:73 gears, I'd bury the needle at 130 with pedal left, the torque of the engine could light em up in 2nd at 30mph.
@TheTheeggmann when he took off the speedo went straight to 40 and that burnout didnt look like the tires were spinning at 40 mph and those old cars are impossible to handle and drive at that speed, i have a 72 with a 466ci 568 hp with 3:98 final drive ratio and its hard for me to take it over a hundred with out the front lifting and i sure as hell cant hold a burnout at 40 mph or else ill be in a tree. i just put the speedo gear in this year and i rebuilt the car in 92
@naher1 A lower ride height, well braced front spoiler and newer/better suspension (or tuning of your current setup if you have quality components) would allow you to easily drive your car above 100mph with no drama. I bought my '68 Camaro and it was squirrely as hell, would lift the nose and cross 2 lanes if I wasn't careful w/ a hard shift/clutch drop from 4th to 5th. Now the only limit on how fast I can drive is how long I want my engine to spin high RPM's.
@mike12820 i have improved the suspension on my car but my car is a 1972 grand torino sport with a big-block in it and those cars have really big front grills which allows a lot of air to come in and lift the car up, i guess it matters what car you have

@chrisbarlow01 Pretty close to your numbers. my 70 Vette has taller rear gears (3.08 instead of 3.55) and revs higher (8k instead of 7k) with the same tranny so goes even faster in each gear than the Camaro.

@surrynet I estimated the speed from thre tach, not the speedo. 78mph is 3,000RPM in 5th gear. This video hits a max of around 6,700RPM, which calculates as about 175mph. Sorry, but no guesstimating going on here.

a 43 year old camaro 396SS Yenko will do over 200mph on the salt flats it was proven the 1963-67 vettes did 165mph, the 1954 mercedes 300 SL gullwing coupe had a top speed of 160mph, i had my 327 89 chevelle SS up to 15mph on rt 66 in 1998, thats all the way around past the posted 140mph speedo, you figure it out, i thinks that was around 180mph, 4:11 rear end colum 3pd shift
@toyota13579 maybe not for a toyota but our muscle cars can if built right. Hell most of these cars would top out at 140 to 160mph from the factory. We didn't have govners on our cars back in the day. The car would go as fast as the engine would push it, or till she will blow up.

@surrynet I estimated the speed from thre tach, not the speedo. 78mph is 3,000RPM in 5th gear. This video hits a max of around 6,700RPM, which calculates as about 175mph. Sorry, but no guesstimating going on here.

a 43 year old camaro 396SS Yenko will do over 200mph on the salt flats it was proven the 1963-67 vettes did 165mph, the 1954 mercedes 300 SL gullwing coupe had a top speed of 160mph, i had my 327 89 chevelle SS up to 15mph on rt 66 in 1998, thats all the way around past the posted 140mph speedo, you figure it out, i thinks that was around 180mph, 4:11 rear end colum 3pd shift

@toyota13579 maybe not for a toyota but our muscle cars can if built right. Hell most of these cars would top out at 140 to 160mph from the factory. We didn't have govners on our cars back in the day. The car would go as fast as the engine would push it, or till she will blow up.
