I guess M16s are much comfortable and ergonomic.
@esh325 Many of my friends serve in the army, they are trained not to hold the mag while shooting. AK-63D is the service weapon here, basically it's an AKMS.
@rionrace Yeah and I've heard rumors that if you run over a slap chop with a SUV it still works... Doesn't make it true. AK's will never beat the M16.
@rionrace Actually, M16 is better than AK-47 as long as M16 is kept clean and maintained. Yeah, I know that M16 gained poor reputation during Vietnam War (no chrome-lined barrels, no forward assist, not even cleaning kits) but Americans didn't stand still and fixed it.
The M16 is way more comfortable and ergonomical and more accurate.
While AK-47 was NOT very comfortable, ergonomical and accurate, it was a fairly simple rifle for everyone to use.
@noobas00 You know the French spent 8 years in Indochina and none of their weapons had chrome lined barrels. They never complained about it.The AK is more accurate then you think. Not as ergonomic as the M16,I agree. Anybody could use a M16 if they wanted. There is more to learning how to use either rifle though then just taking them apart and chambering a round. You could give either rifle to somebody and show them how to shoot it, will they know how to effectively use it in combat? Probably not.

Reb: I'm hearing a lot about the M-16 being of little use in less than a sanitary environment. If Obama declares martial law and sends out the ACORN boys, that's not the weapon I want.
I've also heard it's not as accurate as the M-1 Garand.
Russian S.K.S. in 1994 was $120.00 Chinese was $80-90? Back then. A.K. was $500 + Maybe more or less? A.R.15/M16 $700 + 1994 Prices. I wanted more Bang for the buck. Now that same S.K.S. is selling for $350-$500. Yep! M1 & M14 are better Then M16. M16's advantage? Lighter. Also With 5.56/223 Ammo M16/AR15 Smaller round & does alot/some internal damage. M1 & M14 Kill! Stop 'im in there tracks. I think? The ammo's more Expensive too? Might want to check on that.

Really? One of my teachers went to vietnam and he said that the original m16 was shit. But I'll give it that it wasn't all the guns fault since our millitary didn't field the weapon correctly at fiest. I do agree its an excellent weapon system today. But, still does not meet the reliability of the ak.
My cousin is a 1st Lt. in the US Marine Corps and he is armed with and M16A4. He says they work great and only need to be cleaned like once every two or three weeks.
i'll stick with my 249 and my M9, maybe ill take the M4 off my back if shit gets really bad and im desperate. other than that i'd rather die fighting not Pulling SPORTS.
for those liberals who liked to mock the idea of going to war with the equipment you have; why did LBJ send all those troops to combat with weapons and no cleaning equipment? Of course, there was no outcry then, but there should have been if liberals were honest, but they aren't.
"If we weren't in a 12 trillion dollar debt, the military should replace the m16 for the rra-lar 8 mid length."
BULLSHIT!!!
the small arms are the lowest bit. do you know why change the US Army the Beretta M92FS not the SIG-Sauer P226? because the Beretta was 15 dollar cheaper.
everywhere the politicians and public procurements competent authorities are miser kike dumbasses.
Four services dumb fuck? Im counting at least five. I mean its one thing to miss the release date of a rifle by two years its quite another to forget an entire branch of the military. Now honestly, where is this hostility coming from? I mean what kind of person are you? You seem kinda sad and lowly buddy.
Well if you really wanna get technical the only branches of the military are the Air Force, Army, and Navy. The Marine Corps and Coast Guard are technically in the department of the Navy.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The Coast Guard used to be a division of the Department of Transportation. It is now a division of the Department of Homeland Security. Your ignorance is laughable.
Tow74, if it was not for your "Dumb fuck comment" I would sort of agree with you. It appears that the USAF was the first branch to deploy the M16 in 1960 thanks to Gen. Curtis LeMay. Made its way to advisers in S. Vietnam in 1962.
I served in the USMC for 5 years. 0861 with 3/11 and 3/7 Marines. what it all comes down to, regardless of differences, the M16 still KILLS. I am alive here today because of it. Keep it clean amd maintained, your life depends on it.
The M16 is the biggest pos ever. 2 good things about it: accurate, lightweight. So if you are in the jungle without bug spray, you can pick off mosquitoes with it nicely. Don't even try shooting an enemy: the bullets bounce off of the larger leaves (fact). And once it jams, it might make a nice club to hit your enemy with.
It lacks power and it jams all the damn time, the one I ran across jammed every time I tried to reload a magazine: bullet stuck diagonally in the chamber. Never with an AK47.
for the record it was designed by robert mcnamaras wiz kids, designed by a COMMITTEE OF ivy league smart guys to be COST EFFECTIVE. these shmux were mostly computer types and business MBA's.
It's design was also based on extensive data analysis, as I recall. I understand it looks impressive in demonstrations, next to a random person they picked off the street spraying with an AK47 all over the place. However, in real combat, targets move, and hide behind cover. Moreover, short-range combat is not the ONLY thing you tend to face. There is a reason US troops in Afghanistan dropped their M16s for an AK47 whenever they got the chance. Also M16 jams a bit much, and that means death.
What you say is a bit strange, though. I do not know how much trouble exactly you had, but you admitted it jammed "now and then". What exactly would you do when someone is firing at you and you have one of those "now and then" moments with your rifle? You might very well die. The only thing you could test your rifle for was accuracy. That the m16 has. But in battle, FIREPOWER is more important than accuracy (empirical data) since enemies move, and the m16 lacks that. And, it jams. In combat.
It jammed on me a few times when it got dirty, but as I had never fired any other gun then the m16 at that point, still havent by the way, I cant really complain.
But I see what you mean, jamming like that would very well mean death in battle, I just hope I wont never have to find that out for myself ;)
Yes I am. It is a fact that the ak47 is known for its reliability (+ power), and the m16 is known for jamming (+ lack of power). First firing range I ever came to, my m16 jammed on me every time I reloaded unless I did it VERY slowly and carefully, which means I would get shot in combat. Obviously that is not the main argument (main point is the empirical data), but simply one example.
my father was in the army, and when asked what he would choose between the AK and the M16, he said the m16 hands down. I really think it depends on how they are maintained and used. I am not in any disputing the power and reliability of the AK, but I think It depends on the user and his maintenance/training.
You have something to back that up or you simply like running your mouth? I only rely on facts, not personal preference, and everything I said is backed by hard evidence. So don't waste my time.
Yes. The M16 was the very first military version of the M16 family, while the M16A4 is the most up to date version of the M16. There have been several key improvements from the M16, M16A1, M16A2, M16A3, and all the way to the M16A4. Major changes are a forward assist, rails for extra add ons and a removable handrail.
This is probably the m-16 before the M-16a1 version. I was trained with the m16s1 during my time in the military before moving on to use the SAR21 rifle (i added a video response).
Those who had used the earlier versions of the m-16 would know how horrible a weapon it was. The troops in vietnam deserved a better weapon than this piece of shit.
It requires alot of maintenance to prevent jamming and doing it in a jungle with high humidity conditions is not easy. Cos i was in their shoes.
heres a fact to consider.. the mini.14....a varmint hunting gun made by james sullivan and produced by ruger arms. if it was created two years earlier, it would have been used instead of the m-16a2 but seeing as the m16 was already issued to basically every soldier in combat...they kept usin the 16 instead
i will agree the ak does fire the 7.62 which is larger then the m16s 5.56 but for long ranges i would use the m16 but in 2days battlefeild most of it is cqb or urban so the ak-47 is better at that. if only there was a 7.62 sa80a2 then it would be the best rifle lol :D.
I would prefer m16 for long range and ak47 for short range. But i prefer m16 for light weight and firerate Ak47 is good in jungle and desert enviorment were m16 gets dirty.Ak 47 can lose your thumb if you are dumb and you use ak47.
I think the M16 IS the greatest combat rifle, not the AK47. The Ak47 may have more firepower, but it is somewhat, but not very accurate. The M16 is lightweight, accurate, and can still pack a punch.
AK-47 can be put in water, sand and mud and still fire while M16 WILL NEED TO BE CLEANED. But in battle it is always dirty conditions so thats where AK-47 come more reliable. And assualt fights usualy take at short range. For example if me and you were fighting in a building... God help you.
Yes, but if you and greycoat were 100 yards away from eachother, who would win this battle? The M16 is a more precision weapon, and I would never take an AK47 over it. It's saved my ass on numerous occasions where I believe the AK47 would leave me out to dry.
On open field Russians rather prefer to roll out tanks.
Why would AK-47 leave you out to dry? If you prefer M16 then fine I have no problem with that. But AK-47 is more popular than M16, thats really a fact, maybe not in the US but deffinately in the rest of the world.
just because its popular dosnt mean its the best. the chinese and russians produced as many as they could because they didnt have anything better. anything more than 100 yards you might as well take that ak and shoot yourself to avoid capture.
Who told you that? lol. Just think about it! The only advantage M16 has is accuracy. Thats the ONLY advantage! AK-47 IS cheaper, MORE RELIABLE, much easier to use, and stronger fire power. Russians could easily built a better weapon but there was no need to, it was 61 years now and the AK-47 still servers us well. You can run over the gun with a truck it'll still fire.
m16 is perfect infantyman rifle, its light and its accurate. all m16s are ligh and accurate. there are so many aks around the world that you cant bunch them up into one gun. i can find several weapons more effective than the ak but might be less reliable.
M16 is closer to a rifle. AK-47 is closer to a machine gun. You can't really tell what weapon is better. American feel happy with M16s, Russians feel happier with AK-47s. Best thing would be is for us to go out there and acctualy try out both weapons.
well yeah. depends on what you need to use it for. theres the solution right there. no one would use an ak in long range compant, no one would use an m16 at close range.
i perfer a FN with a 308 im big and can carry it aroound all day, it can go out to 600 yards and kill well, the ak 47 and 74 and m16 are good riliabal and kill well with acuricy its all a mater of choce and cash, by the whay this rimindes me of the NRA
The only advantage m16 has over Ak-47 is that it is more accurate. As for popularity, reliability and style, AK-47 is better and in everything else. I prefer AK-47.
actually the m-16 does more damage to flesh than an ak because when the 5.56mm round penetrates flesh it tumbles and breaks into two pieces just like what odst0001 said.
AKs bullets can shoot through trees and brick walls. M16 bullets can't. But who cares? Both bullets from both guns are good enough: human flesh is easy to penetrate.
no it doesn't how is a smaller caliber round going to penetrate more that a bigger round all the special forces are switching to guns that fire the 7.62 round.
your right there but they need something that will shoot through anything and still get the person behind it and wont jam isnt heavy and for all purpose
Successful video for the killers.

Both guns (Ak & M16) have weak points. Many of my friends serve in the army they have AK-63Ds. If you hold the mag while firing it jams because the mag is very loose. It depends on the shooter not the gun...

Roman numerals were taught in the 7th

all legal documents had date stamps in
Roman numerals.

I remember this video from when I was in Army basic training 40 years ago. Who are all these crap bags blabbering about the M16 being unreliable?
barflewk 2 years ago 2
Really? One of my teachers went to vietnam and he said that the original m16 was shit. But I'll give it that it wasn't all the guns fault since our millitary didn't field the weapon correctly at fiest. I do agree its an excellent weapon system today. But, still does not meet the reliability of the ak.

for those liberals who liked to mock the idea of going to war with the equipment you have; why did LBJ send all those troops to combat with weapons and no cleaning equipment? Of course, there was no outcry then, but there should have been if liberals were honest, but they aren't.

Tow74, if it was not for your "Dumb fuck comment" I would sort of agree with you. It appears that the USAF was the first branch to deploy the M16 in 1960 thanks to Gen. Curtis LeMay. Made its way to advisers in S. Vietnam in 1962.

there is another rifle that you prefer?
19SPQR27 3 years ago
I don't believe you. You were never in the marines.
SilentCritic 3 years ago
The M16 is the biggest pos ever. 2 good things about it: accurate, lightweight. So if you are in the jungle without bug spray, you can pick off mosquitoes with it nicely. Don't even try shooting an enemy: the bullets bounce off of the larger leaves (fact). And once it jams, it might make a nice club to hit your enemy with.
It lacks power and it jams all the damn time, the one I ran across jammed every time I tried to reload a magazine: bullet stuck diagonally in the chamber. Never with an AK47.
alexabar 3 years ago
for the record it was designed by robert mcnamaras wiz kids, designed by a COMMITTEE OF ivy league smart guys to be COST EFFECTIVE. these shmux were mostly computer types and business MBA's.
garyowen4ever 3 years ago
It's design was also based on extensive data analysis, as I recall. I understand it looks impressive in demonstrations, next to a random person they picked off the street spraying with an AK47 all over the place. However, in real combat, targets move, and hide behind cover. Moreover, short-range combat is not the ONLY thing you tend to face. There is a reason US troops in Afghanistan dropped their M16s for an AK47 whenever they got the chance. Also M16 jams a bit much, and that means death.
alexabar 3 years ago
I never had any trouble with this gun in the service, sure it jammed every now and then, but nothing serious.
Then again, I had the luck of never coming into a real combat situation...
rpgplayer101 3 years ago
What you say is a bit strange, though. I do not know how much trouble exactly you had, but you admitted it jammed "now and then". What exactly would you do when someone is firing at you and you have one of those "now and then" moments with your rifle? You might very well die. The only thing you could test your rifle for was accuracy. That the m16 has. But in battle, FIREPOWER is more important than accuracy (empirical data) since enemies move, and the m16 lacks that. And, it jams. In combat.
alexabar 3 years ago
True to that.
It jammed on me a few times when it got dirty, but as I had never fired any other gun then the m16 at that point, still havent by the way, I cant really complain.
But I see what you mean, jamming like that would very well mean death in battle, I just hope I wont never have to find that out for myself ;)
rpgplayer101 3 years ago
are you saying that the AK-47 never jams? I would sure like to see that. plus, with the proper training and use, it is just as good as the AK.
misterballistics 3 years ago 2
Yes I am. It is a fact that the ak47 is known for its reliability (+ power), and the m16 is known for jamming (+ lack of power). First firing range I ever came to, my m16 jammed on me every time I reloaded unless I did it VERY slowly and carefully, which means I would get shot in combat. Obviously that is not the main argument (main point is the empirical data), but simply one example.
alexabar 3 years ago
my father was in the army, and when asked what he would choose between the AK and the M16, he said the m16 hands down. I really think it depends on how they are maintained and used. I am not in any disputing the power and reliability of the AK, but I think It depends on the user and his maintenance/training.
misterballistics 3 years ago
You have NO idea what you are talking about. Simple fact.

Hey is there a difference between the M16 and M16A4??
RebelSoldier321 3 years ago

Well there is the AK-101 which fires does the 5.56 NATO round
ManicMo3 4 years ago
i will agree the ak does fire the 7.62 which is larger then the m16s 5.56 but for long ranges i would use the m16 but in 2days battlefeild most of it is cqb or urban so the ak-47 is better at that. if only there was a 7.62 sa80a2 then it would be the best rifle lol :D.
massey6663 4 years ago
I would prefer m16 for long range and ak47 for short range. But i prefer m16 for light weight and firerate Ak47 is good in jungle and desert enviorment were m16 gets dirty.Ak 47 can lose your thumb if you are dumb and you use ak47.
Alex9322 4 years ago
I know a person from school, his Dad is in the army, so he got to fire M16s and AK-47s. He said that he prefers AK-47 because of its reliability.
Kalash47ussr 4 years ago
I think the M16 IS the greatest combat rifle, not the AK47. The Ak47 may have more firepower, but it is somewhat, but not very accurate. The M16 is lightweight, accurate, and can still pack a punch.
greycoat1861 4 years ago
AK-47 can be put in water, sand and mud and still fire while M16 WILL NEED TO BE CLEANED. But in battle it is always dirty conditions so thats where AK-47 come more reliable. And assualt fights usualy take at short range. For example if me and you were fighting in a building... God help you.
Kalash47ussr 4 years ago
Yes, but if you and greycoat were 100 yards away from eachother, who would win this battle? The M16 is a more precision weapon, and I would never take an AK47 over it. It's saved my ass on numerous occasions where I believe the AK47 would leave me out to dry.
De Oppresso Liber
ziphead0412 4 years ago
On open field Russians rather prefer to roll out tanks.
Why would AK-47 leave you out to dry? If you prefer M16 then fine I have no problem with that. But AK-47 is more popular than M16, thats really a fact, maybe not in the US but deffinately in the rest of the world.
Kalash47ussr 4 years ago
just because its popular dosnt mean its the best. the chinese and russians produced as many as they could because they didnt have anything better. anything more than 100 yards you might as well take that ak and shoot yourself to avoid capture.
thecorpsjohnb 4 years ago
Who told you that? lol. Just think about it! The only advantage M16 has is accuracy. Thats the ONLY advantage! AK-47 IS cheaper, MORE RELIABLE, much easier to use, and stronger fire power. Russians could easily built a better weapon but there was no need to, it was 61 years now and the AK-47 still servers us well. You can run over the gun with a truck it'll still fire.
Kalash47ussr 4 years ago
m16 is perfect infantyman rifle, its light and its accurate. all m16s are ligh and accurate. there are so many aks around the world that you cant bunch them up into one gun. i can find several weapons more effective than the ak but might be less reliable.
thecorpsjohnb 4 years ago
M16 is closer to a rifle. AK-47 is closer to a machine gun. You can't really tell what weapon is better. American feel happy with M16s, Russians feel happier with AK-47s. Best thing would be is for us to go out there and acctualy try out both weapons.
Kalash47ussr 4 years ago
as an ASSAULT RIFLE the m16 is better, as a MACHINE GUN the ak47 is better, yes i will agree with you on that.
thecorpsjohnb 4 years ago
But what is better? A rifle or a machine gun? There is no answer to that. So their is no solution to a debate over M16 and AK-47.
Kalash47ussr 4 years ago
well yeah. depends on what you need to use it for. theres the solution right there. no one would use an ak in long range compant, no one would use an m16 at close range.
thecorpsjohnb 4 years ago
True, but people do use AKs in long range and M16 in short range. It would be better if m16 would be automatic. THEN it would be good in short range.
Kalash47ussr 4 years ago
i perfer a FN with a 308 im big and can carry it aroound all day, it can go out to 600 yards and kill well, the ak 47 and 74 and m16 are good riliabal and kill well with acuricy its all a mater of choce and cash, by the whay this rimindes me of the NRA
Fuzuu21 4 years ago
The only advantage m16 has over Ak-47 is that it is more accurate. As for popularity, reliability and style, AK-47 is better and in everything else. I prefer AK-47.
Kalash47ussr 4 years ago
ak 47 does more damage and will kill better but does not hit very good m16 does less damage but hits his target much better
agent866 4 years ago
actually the m-16 does more damage to flesh than an ak because when the 5.56mm round penetrates flesh it tumbles and breaks into two pieces just like what odst0001 said.
stg44rulz 4 years ago
AKs bullets can shoot through trees and brick walls. M16 bullets can't. But who cares? Both bullets from both guns are good enough: human flesh is easy to penetrate.
Kalash47ussr 4 years ago
you also have to take body armor into consideration the 5.56 M16 ammo isn't good at penetrating the armor the 7.62 munition is better at that
PUBEMAN123 4 years ago
sorry but m16 does better with penetrating body armor...
kablahblah22 4 years ago
no it doesn't how is a smaller caliber round going to penetrate more that a bigger round all the special forces are switching to guns that fire the 7.62 round.
PUBEMAN123 4 years ago
Smaller, faster bullets penetrate better than bigger, slower ones. Ever heard of physics
JoshcRiddick 4 years ago
not if the bullet splits once it hits the target like the 5.56, ever heard of common sense? can't penetrate a 1/4 inch of steel but a 7.62 can.
thecorpsjohnb 4 years ago
your right there but they need something that will shoot through anything and still get the person behind it and wont jam isnt heavy and for all purpose
