@micahmx85 Ground speed includes wind. It is displayed on top of the speed strip left on the PFD. Important is TAS which was between 150 and 160 kts depending on lean mode.
Actually you're not allowed to film, flying over holland... But what a great vid!! Miss the Turbo Arrow! especially when making a t&g to feel the kick of the turbo :)
@berndl The A/P is a STec 55. Flipping between ROP and LOP was just to demo the different settings and to show the outcomes just for this clip. I usually fly LOP with 65%. The plane is currently in Straubing where a new TurboPlus intercooler and an EDM 830 is being installed. But you're right. That's it with improvements for now (what you don't see: it has also all the LoPresti speed mods!). ;-)
Very cool video and aircraft, Muelli. I am curious, why did you fly ROP? I thought the GAMI's allowed LOP? Is this a restriction of the turbo, or the altitude, or a new engine? Thanks, I know very little about running LOP but it seems like a hot topic with current fuel costs.
@ecktoeman I wanted a turbo charged plane and the Arrow is one which performs quite well (look, it cruises on FL200!) and is not that expensive. When I bought the plane, it was already quite well IFR equipped (check some of my first video clips). It was not planned to upgrade the avionics. That was an after-buy decision and I'm still very happy with it (would do it again).
@sirdir2 I don't know exactly. What I know is that it should be above 90 and that I would initiate a descend if it continuously stays below 80. Between 80 and 90 happens and I then try to concentrate on proper breathing while watching the oxymeter. If your workload increases in the cockpit, e.g. while talking with controllers and flying procedures etc, your breathing will be different and thus the enrichment might be lower. But this is recoverable.
allright, thats a big differnce then :) i just got remembered at this accident with the young couple which tried to climb over the cumulonimbus and not being aware of the oxygen problem because of the capabilitys of the arrow. they crashed a few years ago...
What was your GS at that altitude?

Great clip , would be even better with some more gentle camera movement and longer rest on some instruments, but still great.
I understand you do climbs with RoP and cruise sometimes RoP and sometimes LoP (depending on preference of speed or fuel flow).
What autopilot do you use?
Is there room for any improvements in this Arrow? I don't think so!

@muelli: Great Arrow, hard to beat! You even have the new cowling from LoPrestI (youtube.com/watch?v=RPQxZmohGio) ?
Suppose, your engine is the Continental TSIO-360-FB1B6 cylinder?
berndl 3 months ago
@berndl Not the cowling but the speed mods. The cowling does not have an EASA STC. And yes, that's the engine.

@wconkle Thanks. You can see it in the clip. Difference in KTAS between ROP and LOP is 18 knots at 65%.

All that money you spent on an Arrow? Were there no Comanches or Bonanzas or Mooneys or 182RG available to upgrade in Europe?

How much did you invest for that preparation?
Nice video.

And what's the 'threshold' you'd accept regarding oxygen enrichment?
sirdir2 9 months ago
@sirdir2 I try to keep it above 90.

@muelli ok but do you know when you start feeling symptoms?

u seriously used oxygen at first at FL180 and not below? thats just sick man... and kinda illegal ;)
menacetosociety84 9 months ago
@menacetosociety84 Of course did I use oxygen below FL180 but a cannula. From level 180 upwards you have to change the cannula to a mask. ;-)
