Good effort man, i've found that some phase, a little distortion and a little delay sounds good on the intro... might wanna work on your bending, takes practice with two strings.
Yes I have terminal melanoma. In hindsight, i appreciate that this guy is making an effort, its just not right and I don't enjoy waht little time I have left watching this
you don't have the correct fingering and that's why it doesn't sound 100% you should be sliding and bending starting on the 9th fret, then the 11th, then down to the 6th. that truly is the correct way to play it. not bad but to me when you have 4 out of 5 stars it should be near perfect and this really is no where close
oh do tell... you just couldn't walk away could you now... it must bug "u" soooooo much to hear it oh so... incorrectly.... hmmm yes... oh well... cause your props are soooooo important to me... yes do teach me more cause I really need your guidance. Or perhaps I'll just aim for the "block" feature for this internet troll... hmm I think I'll go with option B.
What he was trying to say before his ego got in the way was... The first chords you are using in the song A9D9 then A11D11 aka 4ths (I think. It's been awhile. You bend those a half step before their duration is over. Not really necessary but it's how Mike plays it.
DUDE!!! that made my jaw drop! Im trying play this song and its a pain in the ass for everyone. im guessing u got lots of pains in your ass practicin this to make it perfect huh? rock on
I use DODs, and yeah it is a very metally sounding distortion. There is no way I am going to capture the exact distortion the guy used on the recording (what's the point). It's more important to make your own sound. I wasn't sure if it was going to sound good against the recording I thought for sure it wouldn't, but when I played it back it wasn't that bad. Thanks for the comments.
you are clearly a moron, a strat would be nothing like the tone that einziger used in 'stellar', as the whole album was recorded using single cut PRS guitars, with no discernible relation to a 'twangy' sound that strats provide
First of all your moms a moron and second i know hes used a hollow body PRS for the recording but hes been using jazz fenders for the last 5 or 6 years. Thats why i said he would be closer to his current tone if he used a strat. CLOSER being the key word. No need to be offensive.
mike may use fender now, but it is not at all like his make yourself/science tone. furthermore he uses the jazzmaster which maintains a much different sound than the strat. this video, by using an ibanez, is actually much closer to mike's recorded guitar. suggesting to use a strat would only be taking steps backwards.
Ibanez rgs closer to a jazzmaster than a strat? are you serious? ibanez rgs tone is nothing close to a jazzmaster. I have had both. The closest Ibanez i have heard to a strat or jazz type tone is the Ibanez RT series. Maybe its cause its an alder body and not basswood. I think you can also split the coils to make them singles. i know the jazzmaster is less twangy that a strat and alot warmer but with darker pups a strat can sound alot like a jazzmaster.
no no no, i was saying the ibanez is closer to mikes PRS tone, than both the jazzmaster or Especially the strat. ibanez being similar to PRS tone is why it would be unwise to suggest to use a strat for this song. people all over youtube are playing strats for incubus songs, and it sounds awful.
same thing. to me Ibanez sound nothing like a hollow body PRS. The Ibanez rg is brighter more razor like tone. thats why its great for metal. A PRS has a thicker GRind to it more like a les paul. Anyways we are al over the place here. I play Incubus on a strat with hotter overwound darker tones pups that the stock fender pups which sound brighter and thinner. Sounds pretty darn close to Mikes jazzmaster tone epsecially the neck. I agree a stock twangy strat does not sound as good.
he went to his more noticable hollowbody (technically a semi-hollow) for parts of the tour of MY, and then recording MV. i am sorry to keep bringing up his new jazzmaster tone, coz I HATE IT haha. i think the current tone is just awful, and makes the old songs sound terribly dated.
yeah i prefer the old tone as well but they have gotten softer musicaly so i guess the jazzmaster fits the new style inc. They have progresively gotten softer with every new album. still good, just different, more mature sounding...i guess. luv em anyways!
I also have an double HUM Fernandes strat with a SD vintage 59 in the neck and a JB bridge which is damn close in tone. much darker than my strat. either way man, you gotta loves mikes tone and overall playing! My fav band. Tool and metallica are close seconds for me. BTW ever try a DOD250 OD pedal? very close Mikees dirty tone!
haha saying a PRS is like a les paul is not correct(def plays 10x better), in that PRS seeks to obtain the best of both the high end fender and beef of gibson, while looking way hotter and more modern. plus mike used solid body PRS's, along with his brother benjamin (who you can hear in the intro of nowhere fast).
you can get a RG to sound very much like a gibson/PRS, as it is not so much the guitar, but the amp. as my lowest comment says it's probably sounding "metaly" b/c of the camera etc.... you gotta try out a mesa boogie head, that will make you cry with joy with uber modern tone, just make sure you gotta beefy singlecut to play on.
yup thats true! i guess the moral is stick to something you can afford and your happy with! No sense in spending thousand to sound like someone when at the end of the day it does not feel right to you. Im pretty happy with my setup for now but tomorrow i might wakeup and feel different. I have a marshall head with marsh 4x12 cab. 3 guitar. 2 modded srats and an RG. can play just about anything with what i have so its cool for now. you?
you gotta do a bend and release in the verse, most covers i see people just do regular bend. great job on everything else though. nice guitar too

Tough guitar to play this song with. Tone was more on the metaly side. A strat would have sounded a bit closer tone wise. What pedals were you using?
