For me, this song is the most expressive. At some parts like at the beginning or after the 2nd chorus,we can hear a voice describing the nightmare.At the end of the chorus when it says "the hardest part is letting go of..." there is a short silence that makes me feel bad. Gerard describes in this song a "night terror" he experienced while recording at the Paramour Mansion. He felt like he was being strangled, and couldn't wake up or move. In his terrors he saw Joan of Arc burning and his loved ones dying. They saw a painting of an angel, when a band member moved something, the painting was revealed to have a demon reaching for the angel's feet. Bob also said that in the middle of the night, the bathtub in his bathroom would fill itself with water.
