  • Father of drummer

  • elvin is magic when he touches the drums!!!!! few people play with such fullness of character in EVERY NOTE, even among the best young drummers today...everything is MAGIC!!!

  • beauty. pure beauty. thanks elvin.

  • thats a baller shirt

  • He's probably the most amazing drummer, I've ever heard! He always rocks drums, in a very beautiful way. His sticks is kinda like balley dancers on coke, thrashing some very big trampolines :D

  • Elvin is rhythm, Elvin is spirit, Elvin is soul, Elvin is the reason.

  • I am starting to understand why jazz is at the top of the music mountain. man o man just the sound, the solos. it's pure artistry at it best. Bonham was famous for his moby dick solo and now i think i know where he got the inspiration from - jazz drummers.

  • Poor drums. Ah well, its for the sake of great music! :D

  • holy f**kin sh*t.

cant believe that's the first time ive watched Elvin Jones. wow.

  • JEEEEEEZ!!!!!!

  • RIP Elvin, I always loved your playing. You are truly a master.

  • muy buen video

  • Two words: Hot Diggity!

  • the mans good :O

  • Drum solos should tell a musical story. Embrace a rhythmic narrative that displays nuance, coherence, imagination and articulate the spirit and soul of the instrument.

  • I was fortunate to see Elvin and his Jazz Machine live @ The Kool Jazz Festival in the late 80's. Man, the precision of his technique and the stamina he possessed.... They don't make them like him anymore. Thank you for sharing this.

  • Damn!

  • i love the jungle kit bass drum with the huge toms. Peter erskine played a similar kit.

  • BEST EVER!

  • It's not about feelings...it's about MUSIC!

A bowel movement is a feeling. Drumming is an Art.

    Another YouTube dolt.

  • If any one way looking for the greatest drummer who ever lived in the 20th Century . . . your search is over.

  • The master will never die. God bless Elvin Jones

  • Haha. Hits himself in the face at 1.21 .

  • man,i remember as a kid reading up on elvin,to make his kit fit into the van or whatever the mode of transport,he adopted his 18" floor tom into a bass drum, ingenious, great drummer.

  • it's not about notes, is about feelings!

  • @freejazzclassics it's about anything.

  • @freejazzclassics

No...it's not about feelings...a bowel movement provokes a feeling.

    It's about MUSICIANSHIP and ARTISTRY!

  • @Easleytee

PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE THE REASON JAZZ DIED

  • @freejazzclassics

On the contrary. It's about art and the articulate expression of ideas within a musical context.

Imagination trumps feelings. Only underdeveloped adolescents respond to art with their feelings exclusively.

  • @Easleytee

Art is the "it" being spoken of, art is about feelings. Is imagination not channeled from feelings one experienced before?

  • if u watch him in any old coltrane jams he was super technical even way back then in tha fifties

  • amazing as allways

  • jeez, what a freak! lol. some more Pursuance style licks for us mere mortals to revere, I feel...

    mr. Many Rhythms himself.

How do you look? You look good, baby! :D

  • Magnificent!
