Horses have NO physical issues standing tied. My trainer tied my 3 yr old horse all night because she has no patience what so ever, she dug a hole practically to china, but Guess what, she is still alive and well to paw again another day. There is nothing wrong with tying a horse. The only issue with the video was the horse was tied to low, which the person already said they corrected
I throw my child in the basement and turn out the lights. That will show her!
My horses will stand in the same place hours on end. In fact my mare was tied to a tree for about 8-9 hours once. And guess what...she's still alive. Amazing. There is nothing wrong with this method.
Arent there really any other ways? It looks harsh...
Besides horse is not made for standing, if the horse is standing, his heart gets double work because the frog in his hoof doesnt work; doesnt pump the blood to the heart.
You dont lock up your child when he is rushing through the house or tie him up, there just got to be some other way, this is not the way to gain horse's trust...
What about endurance ride? Horse Shows? Trail trials? Camping?
Horses stand for hours at a time for things such as these, and it is important for them to stand quietly and patiently. Pulling, pacing, throwing their heads and carrying on isn't good for them, their riders, or the people camped around you.
That's why I'll never "endurance" ride, do horse show, trail rides and camping. Standing for hours is damaging and if the horse is shod... there is no blood flow at all! :(
If the horse is interested in you he will stand and wait patiently, if not, you cant make him be interested or curious...
They stand tied for a few hours. As soon as they stand still, calmly, for five minutes or so they get untied and put away. I work up the time I expect them to stand quietly. It just depends on the horse.
Well...I guess it's just from experience? I don't really follow any program, just common sense and what I have picked up from various trainers, and trail and error. I'm definitely no expert.
And looking back at this video, she shouldn't have the lead so low. I did fix it, but it should have been shorter and up further on the pole because it's asking for trouble where it's at. =(
Just imagine yourself being tied in one spot for hours with very restricted movements.
Real pleasure, huh?

Are you kidding? Why do you think horses sleep standing up & graze on the move...they are prey for other animals.
Before calling the posters training choices into question try educating yourself so at least you don't appear as stupid as your posts make you sound!

Whoa, it's overly obvious that someone has spent all of two hours around horses.
Guess I'll stop tying my horse to the trailer at jackpots, since it's "too harsh" for her to stand.
Never mind the fact that she's a seasoned racer and has stood tied every weekend - every night - at shows. Shame on me!

What method do you use for training?

Is this from NH, Parelli or other methods?
