So annoying that this is dubbed. I played this along side the Tokyo Dome DVD performance and in parts of it, they are dubbed both with literally the EXACT same vocal. Ugh.
@repenttyourself Both performances are very similiar, but if you listen carefully you will see diferences: in Tokyo perf. @ 3:17 she says "just knowing the..., here in the same part she doesn't says the word "just" (2:18 ); here she says eventually @ 2:23 in a different way that in Tokyo in the same part (3:23 on Tokyo).
Of course there's more details, but the main difference is on melisma part: in Madison (2:37) she does it longer and more continuous(and better) than she did in Tokyo(3:36).

She sounds more agile and energetic here, though.

Particularly "feel SO alive" theres no amazing run to E5 its a C#5 and S-weet destiny there wasn't that run back to the Ab5 and her final "III had a vision of live" on the F#5 was VERY weak. And the last 'amazing' run which i loved was completely ruined by the real vocals.

Yeah this is my favorite VOL performance ever. She has the perfect combo of old school Mariah and new school Mariah. It's amazing and by far the best one that I've heard. She's not nervous she's not rushing, she's JUST SERVING!

I mean I get shes a performer and used to pressure and performing but the best people out there have bad performances its life their human it happens.
I liked her voice here more than when she sang the song back in the early 90s. Her voice sounds a lot more fluid here with even more vocal control. That famous run at the end is out of this world and I´ve never heard her sing that part so easily and effortless as she did here. Whether this is dubbed or not. I love this!
@PreciousMariah22 i disagree I think from 1990-1992 her voice was deeper and had thicker texture and over the years it got lighter and more controlled, especially during daydream era where she mixed her registers more and more control is required for that.
@TheDeathsAdvocate i remember in an interview in 1999 she said she gained weight and lost it again o.o but still her breasts had a really big sudden change... but if she denying the fact she had a surgery i believe her o.o only if i see she says it with my own eyes.
Mariah's tone here is lighter than her tone back in 1990; consequentially, she was able to do more things with her voice from 1995-1996 during live concerts, however, her tone is not as rich as it was in the early 90s. Her performance of this song on Good Morning America back in 1990 remains her best rendition of VOL for me. :)
Interesting assessment. I think you're right, her tone wasn't as thick from 95-6 as it was in 1990. But I think it got richer from 95-6, and her timbre has never sounded better. And besides, it could not have been that much of a change, since she was able to sustain G#5's in chest in 1990 and phrase in upper chest for extended periods from 91-94. She def. had problems in 94, but by the time she did her Xmas album, her overall voice was even more amazing than it had been.

I liked her voice here more than when she sang the song back in the early 90s. Her voice sounds a lot more fluid here with even more vocal control. That famous run at the end is out of this world and I´ve never heard her sing that part so easily and effortless as she did here. Whether this is dubbed or not. I love this!

@PreciousMariah22 i disagree I think from 1990-1992 her voice was deeper and had thicker texture and over the years it got lighter and more controlled, especially during daydream era where she mixed her registers more and more control is required for that.

Mariah's tone here is lighter than her tone back in 1990; consequentially, she was able to do more things with her voice from 1995-1996 during live concerts, however, her tone is not as rich as it was in the early 90s. Her performance of this song on Good Morning America back in 1990 remains her best rendition of VOL for me. :)

Interesting assessment. I think you're right, her tone wasn't as thick from 95-6 as it was in 1990. But I think it got richer from 95-6, and her timbre has never sounded better. And besides, it could not have been that much of a change, since she was able to sustain G#5's in chest in 1990 and phrase in upper chest for extended periods from 91-94. She def. had problems in 94, but by the time she did her Xmas album, her overall voice was even more amazing than it had been.

@SFFL1996 I have to disagree. She already was famous back in the 90s, she was even more famous back in the days as today.
She just can't sing like this anymore, it's sad but true. And i'm saying this without any hate, i'm a lamb. Whatever happened to her voice, it is like it is. She could focus on it as much as she wants, it wouldn't help at all.
I think she's trying to focus on acting and her diva image, because she knows very well that her voice isn't that stellar anymore.

Proof of this, is her performance on MTV's "The Hills"...she sounded pretty horrible, because her main focus was putting on that huge diva act, with the water sipping, and the short mini, etc.
But when her most recent album was deemed her worst selling to date, she forgot about that image, and sang the hell outta them songs lol
She definitely still has it vocally, just not as easy to use like she did 20 years ago, I'd imagine.

@SFFL1996 no, she was still rushing to finish her album, doing live shows everywhere, when she did the hills which was last minute she struggled yes but she still sang good with the long note for we belong together, i really do hope people use their brains when they write...
