  • This wonderful film had a profound impact on me when I saw it on TV as a young child in the 60's. As I recollect, it introduced me to heavy concepts such as divorce, suicide, children being taken from their parents, and cancer. On the lighter side, it instilled me with a lifelong fascination of silent films and Chaney. An entire generation of Hollywood makeup artists was also inspired by it. Not too shabby for a melodramatic biopic!

  • @PC3900 Well said - I started to write the same thoughts and saw that you had beaten me to it by three months! Cheers (!) from Niagara Canada!

  • I know this film wasn't 100% accurate, but it did a good job nonetheless. James Cagney looked almost nothing like Lon Chaney, but his performance was very thoughtful and sensitive, as was Jane Greer as the kind and lovely Hazel. This is not a perfect film, but it's worth a watch. It's very touching.

  • love this movie ...thats Cagney at his best

  • No comments? I want to watch this movie, wanted to know what others think about it :(
