1UZFE LS400 and auto trans still running like a champ. Regular fluid changes and QUALITY design are key. Compare to my friends 2002 Jeep Crapokee that is falling apart at the seams with only 110,000 Mi.
I have a 300k 95 toyota 4runner with absolutely no problems. the engine doesn't have any compression problems or anything. Runs like new. And it has the auto transmission that came with the car. It has been serviced normally and has had some modifications to air intake and other parts. It also has new injectors. That is about it.
87 dodge Dakota 170,000 miles engine uses no oil has a holly carb so that should hold up transmission still shifts clean my method for keeping alive change anything that involves oil when need "Valve cover gaskets filters" she still runs strong
@MrVetis LOL might as well change piston rings, valve springs, oil pump, timing belt/chain, head gasket, valve guide seals, all filters, and gaskets for whatever you opened up. Do that with quality parts and labor every 100,000 with oil and filter changes done at recommended intervals and your engine will likely last forever barring extreme mechanical failure like snapped rods, snapped crankshaft, and the like. Be warned you must love your engine like your own child and have deep pockets.
@killer2600 I know many cab drivers driving 20+ year old Mercedes 190Ds with over a million km, just with basic maintenance.
The best thing to have, is a well designed engine, made with quality parts and good quality control at the factory.
Anyway, I know people spending huge amounts on their cars, and then they roll into a ditch and get their cars totalled. All the money that could go into saving for a new car goes to scrap. Too sad...
@ruiferreira89 well it's a known fact that diesel engines outlast gasoline engines. It's not really craftsmanship but by necessity of design, diesel engines have to handle higher compression and higher combustion forces so they need more stout parts and without spark plugs they require less parts overall. The old diesels could run without any electricity what-so-ever once started.
@killer2600 I do know all that, and up until a few months I had two of those diesels (they do require power going to the solenoid in the injection pump that allows it to build up pressure). Mine could both run on straight vegetable oil without modifications. Amazing engines, very reliable, simple and had loads of torque for their power and displacement.
I now own a 1988 Alfa Romeo 164 with a 2.0 l 4 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Very fun to drive.
@ruiferreira89 well then you didn't have the kind that I speak of, these could run submerged underwater so long as the intake remained above the water.
@killer2600 They were that kind, I crossed a flooded tunnel with one of them (the only difference between the two was displacement, other than that the engines were exactly the same). The solenoid I mentioned is a sort of decompressor. In other words, its function is to have the key turn off the engine instead of having a pull cable. Those solenoids are waterproofed and very robust, so they didn't short to ground when submerged.
@killer2600 Water ingress through the dipstick would be a greater concern, as Citroen installed a very clever system where the dipstick runs through a cover in a 8 cm diameter cylinder that serves as crankcase gas separator and oil filler when you remove the cover. There is no way moisture can get trapped in the engine.
@aviomaster The BEST way to make an auto trans last is change the fluid. Owners' manuals don't tell you that, they generally say 'see your dealer.' But service manuals especially on high end usually say change fluid and filter at 30,000 miles or so. My old Mercedes auto is all original at 230,000 - w/ a stack of receipts for 'trans fluid service' once a year.
Master tech? Bahaha sounds like all the dumb uti grads that think they know cars. You might be able to speak terminology but you always make an ass out of yourselfs when you talk, just like this guy. Wires, Distributor cap? Are you serious. Maybe if they are actually defective. Two words, Preventive maintenance. Fluids of course, timing belt of course, you did not even mention my number one complaint, battery terminal corrosion which I tie into PM.
my f150 has 195k and still running VERY stong but my cummins has 874,877 and finally broken down i turned up the pump all the was and the boost is like 36psi i turned pump up at like 840,000 miles and turned up boost at 872k
@fsxflyer007 um i have a 7.3 powerstroke f250, with 172k and all its goten was a rebuild turbo 10k ago. i understand if the dodge is a 2500 ram with a cummins the motor will last 500k but the truck wont
@ps3dethman1 i have a Gas toyota motor with 297K miles on it.. never had to replace or rebuild anything.. Sounds like that power stroker ford motor was beaten on.. because i was under the impression they should last about 300K miles with just basic maintenance.. The transmissions.. Now that's a different story..
@TheManInDboX well turbo's ushaly last about 200k, other then that nothing has ever gona wrong with the motor, and my truck usta be used for towing, that puts alot of heat and stress on the turbo since it spolled up alot of the time. a 7.3 powerstroke will last 500k with good care, the record is 1,000,000+ and it here on youtube
@GmTruckCarLove well its prolly a cummins, but that aint a dodge engine, im sure there is a gas dodge out there with a million miles, just like there is with every other car manufacture.
@ps3dethman1 hey now, dodge makes a few good trucks and a few decent cars. I have an 07 charger and put 15k miles on it in the last 4 months alone. It hasnt failed me once. Just like any brand, some are better than others.. besides ford's reputation is much worse than dodge.
@ps3dethman1 I've had two Dodge dakotas,a 96 with a 318 V8,i had 236k on that,and my '02 Dakota with the 4.7l V8,thats got over 206k..Pretty good to me.
@dgl1962 true, i didn't really think of that. but couldn't you save a little bit and go 3k between changes? does the oil get that much worse in 1000 miles?
The first 150K I used to change it every 3K, then I thought the oil seemed a little "dark"...
So, ever since then I have been doing it at 2K.
The difference doesn't really add up to that much more money ( 13 oil changes per year vs 8 in my case), so I'm really just buying an extra 30 qts per year, or an extra $90.
Hey, the thing doesn't knock, tick or rattle at startup, even on cold mornings, nor does it burn any oil so I'm gonna stay with the plan.
@dgl1962 That's insane and a waste of oil. Every 2k come now. I average 7,500 miles on my oil changes using synthetic. I've sent in oil analysis and the oil comes back clean in regards to fuel, moisture and normal levels of debris. Plus normal wear metals. If you change the oil every 2k, you really could just change the filter 3 times a year. Other wise, more waste. Changing the oil that much is just a waste unless your driving Nascar.
@dgl1962 Problem with not changing the filter with the oil is that you have dirty oil in the old filter mixing with the new clean oil. You're only saving a few bucks with the oil filter not being changed and you're right there anyway, may nas well change it and have 100% clean oil........instead of onlu 75 or 80% clean with a dused filter on there. Just my take on it anyway.
@455Transam Mobil 1 full synthetic. 5W20. When I went up to 14k I used the Mobil 1 Extended Protection(EP) which is good up to 15k. My car is a 2006 Sonata(see my vids) I have 108k, I don't leak or burn any oil. My mother has a 00 Taurus, shes' gone 15k and the oil was fine she used a Mobil 1 filter. If you're not using a Mobil 1 filter I just change it half way through at 7,500 miles.
@studpuppy69 I use MOBIL 1 also was just wondering what you use.
I still change it every 5,000 miles.....even though the oil may still protect, the oil still gets dirty and has contaminents in it. I know guys that go 10,000 or 20,000 miles between changes but I think that's too long.
@455Transam It doesn't matter if it black that means nothing. Brake fluid black thats bad, tranny fluid black that's bad. Oil turns black, it's what it does. You have an oil filter, it filters contaminants from it. Use science like I've done. Send a sample of the oil in, they put it through tests and tell you about moisture, coolant, fuel, dirt, viscosity, flash point and what wear metals are in there. It's just a waste of oil. If you changed it every 7,500 miles just think save 4 free oilchange

@dgl1962 oil changes every 2k is a waste. you're throwing away good oil.

@accorded Maybe, but oil is cheap, cars are expensive.
If changing the oil at 2K is better for the engine than changing it at 5K, then I'll do it.
I actually don't throw away the oil, I give it to a friend who has a Dodge diesel and he runs a 5% mixture in his fuel.

@dgl1962 That's insane and a waste of oil. Every 2k come now. I average 7,500 miles on my oil changes using synthetic. I've sent in oil analysis and the oil comes back clean in regards to fuel, moisture and normal levels of debris. Plus normal wear metals. studpuppy69 1 year ago
@studpuppy69 I change the filter every 6K (every 3rd oil change).
It's not insane, I drive on highways at 90 mph, or around 85 on average.
Like I said earlier, I give the used oil to a friend who puts it in his diesel for fuel.
At 347,000 miles, I certainly won't change my system now.
dgl1962 1 year ago
@dgl1962 Problem with not changing the filter with the oil is that you have dirty oil in the old filter mixing with the new clean oil. 455Transam 1 year ago
@455Transam Keep in mind that the "dirty oil" that's left in the filter is only 2K miles old.
Also, it's only about 8 ozs.
That oil would be considered very clean compared to what's circulating around most motors.
dgl1962 1 year ago
@dgl1962 True........so......why change the oil that soon if it's still pretty clean??
455Transam 1 year ago
@455Transam Because my oil at 2K miles is 33% cleaner than at 3K miles.
To me it's an easy, cheap balance to strike.
I'm sure that you're not, but many people are lazy and will justify changing the oil as little as possible.
I talk to people that justify leaving the oil in until 10K miles "because it's synthetic"
What they don't realize is that oil gets acidic and you can't filter that out.
dgl1962 1 year ago
@studpuppy69 What kind of oil do you use???
