This is the worst TES of all lack of creativity in the main quest secondary quest and dungeons and lack of variety of weapons and armors. And the main story is the same mission eight times i stop playin for that but anyway long live to TES
As good as the procedural system of Arena and Daggerfall is, it could never be remade with presentable graphics (by modern standards) without it being a buggy nightmare.
Not to mention, the immersive atmosphere still remains in games past Daggerfall and Arena, it's just that the NPC's are no longer cardboard cutouts, but bland-skinned manequins.
@Ninja1Ninja2 yeah but they lack the atmospheric music of the early TES games. MW, OBL and Skyrim have good music, but it's more like something you'd hear in a movie, whereas these games had music to scare you and change your mood more - but they wouldn't fit in a movie either
Oh and here's a fun fact, did you know OBL's world WAS mostly procedurally generated

@joezzzify How come? Its not third person, it doesnt use that kind of graphics or even look nothing like Runescape. :D:D Music is pretty much the same thought. :D
As fun as the first two games are suppose to be I can't stand the shitty music and the 2D graphics maybe because I'm a younger gamer but morrowind isn't that good looking and I still play that all the time. Doesn't everything computer generate when you create a character? If so nothing would ever be the same, that would be pretty lame and all the provinces seem too similar. Are there towns that are unique? -Sbowjnso hub fuckyou
This game reminds me of final doom. This game seems to be really old or they didn't care much about there graphics when this was made. Which cant be said for obliviion.
this game is great to play... I am actually writing this in hope that some1 will help me
I have gotten out of that first dungeon and done many quests in that first city.. so can any1 tell me what to do now ...exit the city and go randomly about or go to certain places, and how to complete the main quest?
@powerofthemind21 that depends.... if by first dungeon you mean Stone Keep, then you have to go back to the ruler of Rihad to exchange the parchment for the location of Fang Lair. And if you meant Fang Lair, well, another vision from Ria Silmane should tell you where to go. (Hint: Mage's Guild in Winterhold, Skyrim, ask about Labyrinthian)
FUCK, why have they removed climbing on Oblivion and Morrowind? They bether add it in tes v:P, oh.. and they should also use the SMART system like they have in Brink.
Why do we not get more procedural games? Isn't Elite and Arena and Daggerfall, Darklands and Space Rangers 2 proof enough that procedural games are more brilliant?!
@Spark400 I'm rining Arena at about 5 FPS and I'm on an iBook G4 1.33GHz 1.25 GB. I've tried raising the cycles higher than 10000 but that makes it slower. Any ideas?
Too bad I can't play this, my system would lag like hell. I'm dreaming of the day I can upgrade my computer, I don't care if this game is out of date by then.
This is amazing and ridiculous at the same time :) Somehow I feel that, dispite the graphics being amazing, game concepts haven't changed much recent years.
I'm going backwards with the TES series, I played Oblivion and I simply loved it (say whatever you want, it's one of my favorite games of all times), then just for curiosity sake, I'm playing Morrowind and despite being a bit archaic compared to Oblivion, I kinda like it, then I'm seeing vids of Daggerfall and now Arena and I gotta say that the series had a great start with both games. I kinda like the crappy graphics, reminds me a lot of Doom, wich I still love after all these years.
good luck on your journeys. Daggerfall(which has the biggest game world of the whole series. will take you DAYS to get from one end to the next) and Morrowind are the best ones
I remember the first time i played this game i was banging my head on my keyboard since i was constantly getting lost, i kept getting killed by random thing that didn't even know what they were and the game was just to damn unforgiving!
I'm planning to play through tes 1 - 4 but arena lags horribly on my computer ( wich has no problem running todays games) im using dosBox 0.73 anyone else having the same problem?
Reminds me of many games, like this one and Fallout 1/2, that would be cool to be remade. How unlucky I missed the chance on these games, because back at 1995 I'd say the gameplay and graphics are WOW OMG!!! Now, obviously, we've played TES 4:Oblivion and Fallout 3 and Bioshock and Assassin's Creed and say that a hell of time passed and how gaming technologies improved over the years. If some magic appeared in the future allowing you to convert any game to the highest quality, I'd do it...
This game was so much fun. There was really no limit to the amount of crap you could do. I got a vampiric sword in a quest that made it so i never needed healing again. The game was hard as hell though for a ton of reasons. I must thank you for inspiring me, because i'm about to go download and play it all over again.
its hard at night they need to remake the game so whos the one to let Bethada no that the fans of Arena want a remake cuz i want to play it in the first E(if you play Teh elder scrolls oblivion yourll no)
Actually, the first 3D RPG game is probably Dungeon Master (almost 10 years before Arena). And the first RPG "real time 3D" game should be Ultima Underworld, two years before Arena(s release. BTW, UU and Arena are in "2.5D". I'm pretty sure that the first RPG with a real 3D engine is probably Daggerfall, the sequel of Arena (and prequel of Morrowind)...
Is it me - but if what the Queen said to you had been spoken, it would have been cheesy, but because it was text, it sounded Regal and right?! Is this maybe what is wrong with modern gaming with everything being voiced? It takes so much space that there is no flowery conversations like in Arena, Daggerfall,Morrowind or Planescape Torment!
its minimized LOL theres no morrowind province in this game... and also its one of the crapiest game ever! u should try daggerfall instead (if you were planning on trying out the old school elder scrolls)
I tried Daggerfall aaaand.. It sucks, it's too buggy and shit, and too weird controls etc. This seems to be less buggy and seems to have more comfortable controls :P
Arena is the only Elder Scrolls I haven't played, so I can't tell you. I read somewhere that there are roads to connect the various locations, but it is said to be closed, unlike the wilderness in Daggerfall.
Arena's gameworld is approximated to six million square kilometers, although if what I stated earlier is true, than most of it cannot be reached.
Most of the world is randomly generated. There are no Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil (or Imperial Province, as it is most known in Arena and Daggerfall) as the lore was slightly different.
That's what I was both asking and saying. You're not really playing in Tamriel because all of the interesting stuff about it has been sucked away. Black Marsh, Hammerfell, Morrowind, all of these diverse regions are just the same patches of fields and towns.
I'M NOT SAYING THAT ANYTHING HAS BEEN REMOVED! What I'm saying is that since everything's been randomly generated, there's not much that's unique, and as such the claim that you can go to all of Tamriel isn't as impressive as it sounds.
Of course not, but what I'm saying about the Ayleid ruins is that, maybe they weren't yet part of the lore when Arena was made. Just like Daedras. And daemons who don't exist anymore.
A lot of the Tamrielic lore has been introduced with Daggerfall.
All of them, srsly. Except maybe Summerset Isle, I'm not sure either way whether or not that is included, but all the other provinces are. It even has teh continental and the islandal Morrowind.
the music and graphics make me think of runescape classic remade into a fps ^^ but i'm not whatsoever comparing runescape to the elder scrolls, cuz that would me moral injust and punished by death sentence
@xxAtlantianKnightxx why always people talk about the past like if everything was perfect!i mean always i found myself reading comments like this one. this were real games. in all times are good and bad things why to be complaining!
Lol, I remember once a door was locked and I tried beating it in with my sword (I assumed the "thunk" sound it made meant I was doing damage) but a Guard came and killed me XD
The towns at night look between than in Daggerfall - love the colours! Also, notice the political intrigue about the Oracle cursing the Queen to bad health (

If only my computer was powerful enough to render daggerfall...

In Arena, you can go in the WHOLE Tamriel.
Quartrez 2 years ago
Orly? Is it the biggest TES game or is everything minimized to be about the same size as Daggerfall?
bigbadpur3 2 years ago
its minimized LOL theres no morrowind province in this game... and also its one of the crapiest game ever! u should try daggerfall instead (if you were planning on trying out the old school elder scrolls)
powerbuzz69 2 years ago
I tried Daggerfall aaaand.. It sucks, it's too buggy and shit, and too weird controls etc. This seems to be less buggy and seems to have more comfortable controls :P
bigbadpur3 2 years ago
lol dude all elder scrolls are buggy on pc even morrowind and oblivion occasionnally crashes on my pc but i think arena is the worst of em
powerbuzz69 2 years ago
@powerbuzz69
what? you can go to EVERY province in Arena and Daggerfall.
wexenhex 1 year ago
@wexenhex only in Arena... you cant in daggerfall...
powerbuzz69 1 year ago
Arena is the only Elder Scrolls I haven't played, so I can't tell you. I read somewhere that there are roads to connect the various locations, but it is said to be closed, unlike the wilderness in Daggerfall.
Arena's gameworld is approximated to six million square kilometers, although if what I stated earlier is true, than most of it cannot be reached.
Quartrez 2 years ago 2
But all of it's randomly generated right? You can't see the Ayleid ruins of Cyrodill, the deserts of Hammerfell, the beaches of Summerset ect. ect.
darthteej1 2 years ago
Most of the world is randomly generated. There are no Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil (or Imperial Province, as it is most known in Arena and Daggerfall) as the lore was slightly different.
Quartrez 2 years ago
That's what I was both asking and saying. You're not really playing in Tamriel because all of the interesting stuff about it has been sucked away. Black Marsh, Hammerfell, Morrowind, all of these diverse regions are just the same patches of fields and towns.
darthteej1 2 years ago
It's not that it's been removed, it's only that it was not part of the lore when the game was made.
Quartrez 2 years ago
I'M NOT SAYING THAT ANYTHING HAS BEEN REMOVED! What I'm saying is that since everything's been randomly generated, there's not much that's unique, and as such the claim that you can go to all of Tamriel isn't as impressive as it sounds.
darthteej1 2 years ago
Of course not, but what I'm saying about the Ayleid ruins is that, maybe they weren't yet part of the lore when Arena was made. Just like Daedras. And daemons who don't exist anymore.
A lot of the Tamrielic lore has been introduced with Daggerfall.
Quartrez 2 years ago 2
wow. fire demons are realy ugly.

which province can you go to in arena?
velenvskaelhas 2 years ago
You've inspired me to re-install the game and re-play Arena, and this time to try really hard to get out of the first dungeon!!!!!

sprucemoose18 2 years ago
All of them, srsly. Except maybe Summerset Isle, I'm not sure either way whether or not that is included, but all the other provinces are. It even has teh continental and the islandal Morrowind.

is this 3d? or like doom 1 ,,, 2 and half d, which engine?
erikouwehand 2 years ago
It's like Doom. The geometry is 3D, everything else are 2D sprites. It uses a different engine than Doom, though.
Spark400 2 years ago
@Spark400 Doom has slightly better graphics than this though, daggerfall's graphics are better than doom's in my opinion.

Lol, I remember once a door was locked and I tried beating it in with my sword (I assumed the "thunk" sound it made meant I was doing damage) but a Guard came and killed me XD
