@michaelcalleo Good I just had it happen. Scared me to death. How do you do that. I just wrote to ebay where I bought the item from. IT sounded like a bomb to me. Scared the hell out of me. I guess I know what I will be doing. I can't even find the disk in it so I guess it is shattered.

A similar thing happened one day at my computer technician course. Out teacher was installing windows and showing it to us with a projector. A quick bang from inside the CD drive stopped the install. =D

This happened to me not even a week ago. My CD has a small crack in the center opening of the CD where ppl put their fingers sometimes, I put it in the drive, it spun fine for a few min then I heard POP. Sure enough it blew up in the drive. Drive door wouldnt open, even by using the tiny hole by the door to push it open. Had to remove it and empty the broken CD out of it. Works fine now after some heavy cleaning inside the drive. Second time its happened to. Last time was about 5yrs ago

this happened to me but not that bad the cd i put in had a crack on it and i didnt know about that when i put it in there was a noise i checked it out and the cd was broken but it only broke in to 3 tiny pices i opend the cd drive and took out the pieces and the cd drive worked fine

Dit is niet nieuw, 4 jaar geleden is het mij ook overkomen met de game TOTAL ANNIHILATION. De drive was een 56x AOPEN CD player. DE drive was door dit voorval Total Annihilated!!

This is not new, The same happened to me 4 years ago with the game TOTAL ANNIHILATION. The speciffic drive was an 56x speed AOPEN CD-ROM drive which was totally Annihilated!!!

Ik ken iemand die bijna is onthoofd door een schijfje die uit een pc knalde, maar dat hoeft niet persee een brander te zijn... in een brander wordt een goedkope cd een stuk warmer... als ie dan TE snel draaid kan hij ontploffen.

Niet jou fout, koop volgende keer cd's van een ander merk.

I had to replace my "The Sims Makin' Magic" game disc once due to an explosion that happened long ago. Don't know why or how, but I was in the kitchen getting something to eat and I heard a loud pop sound, and when I rushed back to see what that noise was, I could hear pieces of the disk vibrating inside the drive, so I powered down, removed the drive, and then I had to shake the drive to remove all of the pieces.

Can't trust those high-speed drives...

The same thing happened to me, my computer was making weird sounds like a fan hitting a screwdriver, when I realized what was happening I immediately cutoff the power and after opening up the drive and taking all the CD fragments out my drive kept working perfectly fine!

well all you have to do yall is take the drive out of your pc and open the cover on the drive remove all shattered cd pieces and as long as none of the internal parts of the drive are undamaged put it all back together and test to see if it works,if it works there ya go, if not just buy a new drive

its best to use a proper tool to write cds if you have a high speed writer, i wouldunt trust the one that is implemented in windows!

Well it hasn't happened to me yet, but I never really used my disk writer much, and now I have some memory sticks for transfering data. But the front of the drive says 52x24x52x16x and the CD says 16x, write speed presumably. Does the drive know each disks maximum?? Maybe not! LOL.

Dit is mij 2x overkomen bij RA2 en Airport tycoon :P. Dat komt door de kwaliteit van de CD en de snelheid waarop je je pc h'm afleest.

It has happened to me twice. But cd drive still works. It happens often, when CD is broken.

I have known this to happen to drives, but if you take it apart CAREFULLY and remove all the shards they usually work again. Considering the speed of 27,500rpm for a 52x drive it is not surprising this happens.

i got lucky... this happened to a hire movie that i was playing. but the rental place put this little sticker with a barcode on the clear centre circular part, and when it all cracked it was enough to hold it together...

Mine did that as well but I have a slot loading drive. The disc was probably cracked and when the drive goes into more than higher speeds to read the disc, the bent part must have caught onto something and shattered.

HEY PEOPLE - INSPECT the center hole of these optical discs once in awhile. They develop cracks over time and can shatter when up to speed. Especially the ones that come from a bad batch. The manufacturer does not matter.
