The U.K. packaging is better than the U.S. packaging. The Avatar Extended Edition and the Alien Anthology U.S. packaging is horrid. You have to pull them from in between cardboard that may cause scratching, the U.K. packaging is like a normal 1 disc Blu ray and is held on a spindle.

The extended episodes are "pegasus" (complete 1 hr episode) and Daybreak (the last episode, special extended that includes parts 1,2 and 3 plus some new scenes, and yes both editions have it. Excelent video by the way! Thxs! I wondered how was the UK box =D

I just bought a different American set from Amazon. Its in a silver box and has Razor and The Plan. Of course I bought them on DVD so I don't know if it is a special DVD only set or not. Is there really any difference between the two American versions? I liked the silver packaging better so I bought that.

Also do any of these sets include the miniseries?

I read on amazon uk that some people were dissappointed with the extras on the uk edition.

Was that for the DVD or the Blu-ray edition? Cause I know the DVD was lacking many extras but the Blu-ray version is identical to the US version as far as extras go.

The 2 extended episodes listed under Blu-ray exclusive content probably refers to the extended "Islanded ..." and "Daybreak", which are not on the UK DVDs (just like the resistance webisodes), unlike "Pegasus" and "Disquiet ...". Although as the UK DVDs didn't include the extended "Unfinished Business" it should really be 3, but thats more of a rough cut than an extended episode.

I totally agree dood, When I first saw the US packaging I thought it looked awsome, But after this video I'm kinda glad I didn't hop on Amazon and buy it...

For once the UK has a superior version of a boxset. Sure makes a change from us getting shafted with The Watchmen films.

Man how the HELL did they screw up the packaging for this great series so badly?? >:(

Like seriously, is it that hard to design some half decent boxes to hold all the blu rays properly? All they had to do was copy what they did for the Lord of the Rings Extended Trilogy packaging. IE Put each season in its own 5 disc accordion case with a nice background pic of something, have an episode list on the back of each of these boxes and throw it all into that nice UK tin there and its a winner.

Thank you Adam for this great review. I ended up purchasing the UK version because of the packaging out of concern that the discs would become scratched. To make the UK packaging even better, I cut the right side of the sleeve off and used 2-sided tape to adhere it to the plastic jewel accordian case. Now the sleeves are not tight and it opens like a book. Really nice. I will try to post a video to show everyone what I mean. Looks like it was meant to be this way. Thanks again!

That sounds like a great idea except that as far as I can see it's not possible. The hinge part of the jewel case is at one of the open sides of the cardboard sleeve so where would you attach it to?

Great review, I went on the Amazon uk and found out that the Blu-rau version is region 2 coded.

For some reason, Amazon uk just copied the specs from the DVD page, which is region encoded. The blu-ray set has no region encoding. Also, blu-ray regions are by letter (A, B and C) rather then number.

This little guide was absolutely awesome. I had heard all about the poor packaging of the US version and had already ruled that out, but wasn't sure if the same applied to the UK packaging. This has sold me on ordering it. The fact that it works out to be considerably cheaper is just a bonus. :-)

I was planning on buying the UK DVD release but after hearing it has no special features what so ever I was forced to look into the Blu-ray version. I'd have to buy a player as well of some description but thanks to your video I have a much better idea of wether or not it's worth the cash! Thanks!

Thank you very much for the comparison! I've been holding back on buying the Bluray out of fear that the UK version would not have the same content as the US one. You have now done me a huge favor and convinced me to buy the UK one! (since living in Sweden we have region two and I don't really feel like buying two bluray-players).

Glad I could help! It's also good to know that both the UK version and the US version have no region encoding on the blu-rays, so no matter which one you buy it will work with your blu-ray player, regardless of region.

I live in the UK and Im really glad to hear that both versions have the same extras, we didn't get hardly any extras when the individual seasons were released on DVD. Is there commentarys for each episode? Love this vid btw. Battlestar galactica as to be one of the best shows of all time! :D

wow, why the gross difference between the packaging? Combined, it would be awesome. I like the tin, the plastic cases, the booklet which I assume has some sort of ep guide/list too, but I like the cylon figure and the box design of the US version. (Could've had the tin inside the US a cyclon head design cover slip)

I agree with you 100%. I think it's complete stupidity that there is no episode guide in the US version. I love the aesthetics of the US version but it's functionality is awful. All that space and they make the discs fit in cardboard sleeves.

Maybe they should mate and create a hybrid? (har har har, I kid)
