just wondering.. why are all his songs something dub? what does dub mean? ( i know its a 20 sac of scanja but is this wat he was referring by? i just want to know already! cus i listen to this sooo much wen im getting fucked up. ( like rigth now )
@pike0825 dub came about as a way of remixing reggae tunes, stripping them back to mostly just drums & bass but over the years its evolved into a sub genre, im sure someone else can give a more detailed explanation but that is basically it.
Dub started as DJs toasting; talking over 45 singles music without lyrics as they were cheap to buy. That was in the late 1960s, in the 1970s it became dub - dubbing over a record, it carried on from there.
Where does the horn part originate from? I know I've heard that sampled a million times on a lot of dub records, but I can't for the life of me find out where it comes from! Can someone please help me!!!???
@seronies : do you happen to know what equipment dub producers used to sample sounds back then when dub first began? btw, i don't know where the sample came from. it might be a "King Tubby original".maybe they took the sample from king tubby.
sorry i was no help.
please tell me if you know the equipment they used for sampling.
@fakecape From what I understand it was all pretty primitive. I could be wrong but, the MPC still had yet to be invented during that time so a lot of producers would just use microphones and recording equipment to sample the specific parts of the song that they wanted. Then they would just arrange the music accordingly.
@seronies: glad to know you understand what i'm saying(i have an old MPC). so, are you saying they would just record with cassette and then basically just play what they recorded on the blank cassette from THE CASSETTE PLAYER? basically not importing it to any other device, but using/playing it with THE ACTUAL DEVICE THEY RECORDED IT WITH?
does my question make any sense?
thank you for replying. i've been curious about this for a long time.
