So, mindlessly using any kind of material, be it book or movie, just to escape from life... Is okay? I've done it a lot, and it did me no good. I missed a fuckload of things, and now I can never get them back.
Twilight isn't realistic. It's not even a romance, it's just horrible. The characters are hateful, the plot is stupid, and most of the time nothing happens. And then someone comes and says it's a masterpiece. Without any valid argument.
I love my life. Granted, I seldom do anything other than a few house chores, sleeping, and most of the things most people do throughout their day. I'm guilty of being slothful because sleeping and listening to music are my favorite things to do. I have what most people call a simple or boring life, but I would never want Bella's life. I would never treat the people close to me the way she does, and I'd never spend every minute of the day obsessing about the prettiest fairy in school.

my reasoning: even disregarding the story twilight is poorly written. the writing itself (grammar, etc) is not very good. Now onto vampires: I dont hav a problem w/ a tweak here or there, in the mythos but she made her vampires perfect. Absolutely perfect (especially cuz they dont even drink human blood--the cullens). It's not the fact that she changed vampires, it's the fact that she made them into these perfect beings. There are supposed to be downsides to being a vampire. Instead, she made them indestructible and beautiful. She erased all of the meaning and symbolism behind them. I wouldn't have a problem with the whole sparkly thing if it were played as a sort of irony, but it's supposed to be cute. Supernatural changed vampires too, but they did it in a way that was respectful to the original mythology.

I can get past the whole 'new girl' cliche and sparkling vampires, but the characters seem dead. Not in a vampire sense either. To me, Bella never got an in depth discription (physically or personality-wise) because Syephanie Meyer was imagining herself as Bella. And Edward is simply a love intrest. I would like Twilight if Bella was more adventerous, strong and friendly, and if Edward had some flaws. At least some. And that they loved each other not just becauuse of looks and 'special powers'

Lestat and Armand had a conscience and souls (How else would Lestat have been able to meet up with Memnoch to see the creation of the world or get into the whole mess with the body thief? Then again, you didn't read the books and these two adventures were not made into movies.). The entire series was all symbolic to the religious battle one can have between good and evil when people are flawed and thus are able to sin where the twilight vampires were created based around a dream a woman had.
Twilight is a safe fantasy to retreat into. There's nothing too extreme, there's nothing scandalous, it's a simple and safe story that centers on far too-simple characters that go at issues that girls around the world have trouble with - LOVE. PS If Eddy hadn't sparkled in her dream I doubt she'd have come up with that shoddy idea. SM could have thought up a better excuse besides shimmering like pixie dust. The last book was the worst. I have about an inch of pages forever left unfinished.

I hate the way you make other vampires stories sound like nothing but penny deadful/penny blood stories (google if you don't know, 500 characters!), and quite honestly, if you took the time to read the vampire Chronicles (Anne Rice, of course), you would realize that what you love so much about twilight (Minus the sparkling vampire business), you can find in her 'MASTERPIECE' series. There is one single rule in writing, and that is that "fiction has to make sense". So no, just because someone writes it, it doesn't automatically mean that the reader HAS to accept it.
Don't get me wrong. I liked Twilight. I found it entertaining. But there was not much originality in her vampires - sure, they sparkled, but that was about it. The other character traits that you mentioned can all be found in The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice that you never read.

Though I'm not a Twilight fan, I can see where you're coming from, but a lot of the reason Twilight made it as far as it did was because it's marketable to a huge demographic who want to read & get away from the real world. It's something sellable, & that's why it could get to no. 1. Vampires are obviously a very "in" subject, & are greatly included in the media right now. I'm not saying the content isn't good, but there's a lot of elements to a book getting popular, not just its quality.

Meyers didn't create anything unique. The impossible romance plot is as old as time itself. Just because she used a vampire and a human in her version of it doesn't make her books 'special'. The twilight saga was nothing but a waste of money in my openion, i am mad that i even read the series to begin with. the book has no imagination, and is pretty much copied off of the sookie stackhouse series. which in my opinion is much better than the twilight saga. it has way more action and the characters are more develpoed than what they are in twilight. i think stephenie meyers was just throwing in a new character every chance she got without fully developing them and that makes them suck.

The only reason people dislike Twilight so much is because it is so badly written and yet it is a bestseller. It is very frustrating to see that someone who is not praiseworthy should get millions of dollars and yet some authors who actually DESERVE the praise are hardly in the picture.

I read Anne Rice's books so many times-and I have never tired of them-because her writing is called LITERATURE-and Twilight...its just go no plot really. You shouldn't have to deal with haters. Most haters are just people who are either immature or have no lives. I'm not a fan of Twilight, because I think the charaters are very bland/boring and Edward is creepy. (And then of course there is the thing with the Sparkly Vampires)
But you still do make some good points in your videos and for that I don't see any reason why someone would post hateful comments.
you don't need to justify yourself. i can completely empathise that when you are suffering with something like depression, focussing on something can really make life easier. i've suffered from an eating disorder and when i started recovery i was terrified that when i let go of my ed, i would have no substance- i'd be a shell of a person, because the ed was me. but focussing on something, having a passion and channeling yourself through it has helped me come out the other side. fuck haters. xxxx

I'm a freshman in literature and the first class, and the first thing they tell you is to not be fooled by books like this. Who are only bests sellers because of teenage fashion, not because they're actually good books, so sad, to think that someone actually thinks Smeyers a good author, when in reality she's one of the most badly critisized writers (if you can call her that) ever.

Smeyer didn't change vampires at all. the way you described it, with Smeyer giving the vampires a "conscience and a soul", and "making them more human"...well, all Smeyer did was turn the feared, creature of the night we all love reading about, into an "indestructable and shockingly beautiful" human. That was why so many people were upset. Instead of finding vampires that even remotely make sense, we just found a whole bunch of flat, unrealistic Mary Sues and Gary Stues.
The Anne Rice vampire series is one of the best series ever written (in my opinion). That woman can WRITE, thank you.

Anne Rice's books require a certain degree of understanding of philosophy; fairly rudimentary really. The reading level is fairly high since it is a book for adults, chances are if you love Twilight as much as you do, Anne's works of art are beyond you level.
After all Twilight is the book for non-readers.

I love my life. Granted, I seldom do anything other than a few house chores, sleeping, and most of the things most people do throughout their day. I'm guilty of being slothful because sleeping and listening to music are my favorite things to do. I have what most people call a simple or boring life, but I would never want Bella's life. I would never treat the people close to me the way she does, and I'd never spend every minute of the day obsessing about the prettiest fairy in school.

It's not the fact that she changed vampires, it's the fact that she made them into these perfect beings. There are supposed to be downsides to being a vampire. Instead, she made them indestructible and beautiful. She erased all of the meaning and symbolism behind them. I wouldn't have a problem with the whole sparkly thing if it were played as a sort of irony, but it's supposed to be cute. Supernatural changed vampires too, but they did it in a way that was respectful to the original mythology.

I can get past the whole 'new girl' cliche and sparkling vampires, but the characters seem dead. Not in a vampire sense either. To me, Bella never got an in depth discription (physically or personality-wise) because Syephanie Meyer was imagining herself as Bella. And Edward is simply a love intrest. I would like Twilight if Bella was more adventerous, strong and friendly, and if Edward had some flaws. At least some. And that they loved each other not just becauuse of looks and 'special powers'

If the setting is earth, more specifically, America and the time is now, you can't change American history just because it doesn't fit with your story. Lestat and Armand had a conscience and souls (How else would Lestat have been able to meet up with Memnoch to see the creation of the world or get into the whole mess with the body thief? Then again, you didn't read the books and these two adventures were not made into movies.). The entire series was all symbolic to the religious battle one can have between good and evil when people are flawed and thus are able to sin where the twilight vampires were created based around a dream a woman had.

There's nothing too extreme, there's nothing scandalous, it's a simple and safe story that centers on far too-simple characters that go at issues that girls around the world have trouble with - LOVE. There is one single rule in writing, and that is that "fiction has to make sense". So no, just because someone writes it, it doesn't automatically mean that the reader HAS to accept it.
Don't get me wrong. I liked Twilight. I found it entertaining. But there was not much originality in her vampires - sure, they sparkled, but that was about it. The other character traits that you mentioned can all be found in The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice that you never read.

You cant like vampires if you don't like Anne Rice's books they are THE vampires. Lestat is everything a vampire should be, him and Dracula obviously. All vampires are made to be beautiful, not just meyers. It's just that all her vamps are marry sues. I never understood how Edward could have sex if his body was frozen and his heart didn't beat, it makes no sense whatsoever.
A BOOK is ALWAYS better then the movie.

Though I'm not a Twilight fan, I can see where you're coming from, but a lot of the reason Twilight made it as far as it did was because it's marketable to a huge demographic who want to read & get away from the real world. It's something sellable, & that's why it could get to no. 1. Vampires are obviously a very "in" subject, & are greatly included in the media right now. I'm not saying the content isn't good, but there's a lot of elements to a book getting popular, not just its quality.

They just happen to be subject matter to help tell the story. For the record..I have no desire to further watch the movies or read the books.(I saw the first one)

Meyers didn't create anything unique. The impossible romance plot is as old as time itself. Just because she used a vampire and a human in her version of it doesn't make her books 'special'. Meyers didn't create a new breed of vampires. As I understand, she knew NOTHING of vampire lore. She went and screwed around with something she had no clue about. The twilight saga was nothing but a waste of money in my openion, i am mad that i even read the series to begin with. the book has no imagination, and is pretty much copied off of the sookie stackhouse series. which in my opinion is much better than the twilight saga. it has way more action and the characters are more develpoed than what they are in twilight. i think stephenie meyers was just throwing in a new character every chance she got without fully developing them and that makes them suck.

Only when those that love the books state that the saga is -FOR A FACT- the best books ever written, is when people point out the flaws and refer to classic novels as examples of better books, both in the respect of horror and/or romance. Classic novels, I might add, that are universally agreed as original and inspiring to all generations.

Traditional vampires may be monsters (and that's why we love them) but at least they have personalities and aren't made of plastic.

I've been reading books both above and below my age group for years. In fact my favorite book is No-No the Little Seal. I am anti-twilight but just because in my opinion it fails as a series. You shouldn't have to deal with haters. Most haters are just people who are either immature or have no lives. I'm not a fan of Twilight, because I think the charaters are very bland/boring and Edward is creepy. (And then of course there is the thing with the Sparkly Vampires)

you don't need to justify yourself. i can completely empathise that when you are suffering with something like depression, focussing on something can really make life easier. i've suffered from an eating disorder and when i started recovery i was terrified that when i let go of my ed, i would have no substance- i'd be a shell of a person, because the ed was me. but focussing on something, having a passion and channeling yourself through it has helped me come out the other side. fuck haters. xxxx

I'm a freshman in literature and the first class, and the first thing they tell you is to not be fooled by books like this. Who are only bests sellers because of teenage fashion, not because they're actually good books, so sad, to think that someone actually thinks Smeyers a good author, when in reality she's one of the most badly critisized writers (if you can call her that) ever.

Smeyer didn't change vampires at all. the way you described it, with Smeyer giving the vampires a "conscience and a soul", and "making them more human"...well, all Smeyer did was turn the feared, creature of the night we all love reading about, into an "indestructable and shockingly beautiful" human. That was why so many people were upset. Instead of finding vampires that even remotely make sense, we just found a whole bunch of flat, unrealistic Mary Sues and Gary Stues.

Anne Rice's books require a certain degree of understanding of philosophy; fairly rudimentary really. The reading level is fairly high since it is a book for adults, chances are if you love Twilight as much as you do, Anne's works of art are beyond you level.
After all Twilight is the book for non-readers.
