Happy, coming from a former Geek Squad tech, don't purchase that shitty setup service. We put in a disc, and delete all the bullshit that Best Buy has manufacturers put on its systems. It also deletes the trial software and does -minor- tweaks to the registry, that's it.
I remember something about him getting a email account hacked, he could have got something sent to him through an email that had a Keylogger hidden like a Trojan horse and allowed it into his computer. They would first of all take down the email account once they got the password through the Keylogger, that gives them the opportunity to delete the Email.
Also, you can view passwords on computers via the internet like this.. Right click internet background.. Click "view page info" ..then "security" then "view saved passwords" ..Unless people aren't lazy and type in their passwords every time :P I tend to save mine :o

Plus, if he "screwed up" his previous computer, why doesn't he just reinstall the Operating system??? He could do that on this one too and if it has XP or later it automatically reformats the drive and wipes out the old OS without having to do an FDisk.

I got a Keylogger from clicking an email for a a fake runescape website by accident..I realized it was a bad website..Scanned my pc..but obviously my computer scanner didn't do it's job because they got my account information anyway lol

I eventually threw the disks away after a series of videos he posted in May after I raised money for a bus ticket so he could have a place to live again.

Firstly how did it pass the antivirus? that should have bloked it. Anyway (I believe u btw) Some free programs that are great. SuperAntiSpyware or Malaware bytes will get rid of most things that antivirus struggle with. Use firefox and get the 2 add ons's 'stop script' <-u will need to 'allow' sites to run and 'adblock' If you use explorer,get spybot and destroy and enable SD helper. Download spywareblaster and let that run..and you should be good. download WOT as well and you'll be right

If you are suspicious, wipe the disk.Always keep your system and programs up to date, never install unknown shit, and if you have to do something securely,do it with a recent Linux live CD.

Firstly how did it pass the antivirus? that should have bloked it. Anyway (I believe u btw) Some free programs that are great. SuperAntiSpyware or Malaware bytes will get rid of most things that antivirus struggle with. Use firefox and get the 2 add ons's 'stop script' <-u will need to 'allow' sites to run and 'adblock' If you use explorer,get spybot and destroy and enable SD helper. Download spywareblaster and let that run..and you should be good. download WOT as well and you'll be right

@TheALGAYDA Well, all it takes is some manipulated jpg, pdf ... file that exploits bugs in the default Windows software you use; or a modified web page, that exploits a bug in your browser,or plain old social engineering ("hey click this fancy .exe"). If you are suspicious, wipe the disk.Always keep your system and programs up to date, never install unknown shit, and if you have to do something securely,do it with a recent Linux live CD.
(Search for metasploit, one known example).
