  • Is here somebody who understands this language ?

  • Any language that is based of feminine and masculine connection is not an ancient language, just and old language. The languages that are of animate and inanimate connection are ancient. Man creates what they see, and they did not see gender but connection of living and non-living.

  • I am son of saddíes. They were Syrians and my mother tauch me two words in Aramic Language: Shob Holo Haló, and I do not know the meaning. I suppose it is something refering to God. Mi name is Antony Nour son of Diab Neme Nour and Gharra Zaher, I have many relatives in Sadad and Hafar where lived my sister Mariam married with Musa Meda. I enjoy seeng this video. Thanks very much. Antonio Nour- Pje. José Martí 526 . Tucumán .- Argentina

  • I don't understand why people make such a big deal out of this. Calm down.

  • @kalkonstek Shut up.

  • why do jews claim they were here before arabs? like you came on the world at the same time! the jews father and arab father was both brothers. jews need to stop lieng! we all know you all ways lie but doent try it this time"""

  • I'm proud of being from Assyrian origin, proud of being a direct descendant of the chaldeans and proud of being able to say this to everyone I know in my country (Mexico)

  • ARAMAIC HAS HOOOKED SOME FROM ARAMAIC.... ETC/... I N SYRIAC

  • Anyone notice the HEBREW lettering (@2:45) on the syrian building - under the English inscription heading "The Aramaic Language Institute" ?

  • @psmx7

LOL- Arabs always try to steal ancient Mesopotamian history (Assyro-Babylonian). Us Jews were there before you Arabs, and you will never hear us steal ancient Sumerian/Assyro history. We appreciate it, and have respect for such ancient history. That's why those Christians respect us Jews. You Muslims are just savages that steal everything and cause mischief everywhere. Rid yourselves of this world, so these ancient Christians and us Jews could live in the Holy Land gracefully!!!

  • @MrKolowski Must have read a different Bible and History, I seem to remember not peace but endless wars with neighbours and God given right to massacre and drive out the original inhabitants of the land even though they did not identify as Arabs or Muslim then (their culture changed over 1000s of years, the idea that Arabs from a sparsely populated area replaced the inhabitants of the fertile crescent is ludicrous and scientifically proven wrong).

  • אלהי אלהי למא שבקתני

  • So is aramaic being standardized? is there a place where i can find the modern script or is it the same as hebrew now?

  • "arameans" dont exist those who call themselves "arameans" today are only brainwashed by their church "syriacs" and "chaldeans" are only tribes of our assyrian nation WE ARE ALL ASSYRIANS long live assyrians from all different churches and tribes

  • @AssyrianQatola Thats true and not true, we cant call us aramean and you cant call yourself assyrian, because we all mixed we are brothers the same people.

  • Meusisto: Both the Syrian orthodox church and the catholic church have monasteries in Maloula, I would contact them and find out if any of them would give a chance to live in one of their monasteries and help their monks with their chores as a form of paying for food and lodging.

  • "Since when then the Jews stopped speaking Hebrew and came to speak Aramaic? Or for what reason it has been so?"

A lot of Jews speak Hebrew; everyone in Israel can for sure. Not sure when they stopped speaking Aramaic. I imagine looong ago. Aramaic was would think was just a Levantine language spoken by many.

  • God bless Syria and safe its beautiful culture.

These are holy places to all people from all faiths.

  • I find it interesting that jane dutton never mentioned the connection of Aramaic with the ancient Jews.

I also find it telling that she says Christian and muslim syrians live side by side. I guess she didn't mention the Jews since that would have to acknowledge that they exist and that is not politically correct. Wouldn't want to offend anyone eh?

  • Aramaic was the language of the ancient Jews. Jesus, who was of course Jewish, spoke Aramaic. Even Yiddish, the western Germanic language of the Ashkenazi Jews contains some Hebrew and Aramaic words.

  • @Lagolop

    Please, wasn't it Hebrew?

  • @meusisto

Jesus spoke in his native tongue; Jesus was not only Jewish, he was a Rabbi. Does that at tell you anything?

  • Comment removed

  • @Lagolop

    Thanks! But what about Hebrew?

  • @meusisto

I am not an expert but I believe the 2 lingos are very similar and probably could be send interchangeably. I met a Chaldean that told me his language is Aramaic and it is the same as archaic Hebrew (not the same as modern Hebrew).

I can tell you this. Yiddish, based on Medieval High German, contains some Hebrew and Aramaic words. I find that interesting.

  • @Lagolop

I know that, I'm beginning learning Yiddish. They were perhaps interchangeable. But why didn't they speak Hebrew at home?

And what about Jesus being a Rabbi?

    Thanks.

  • @meusisto

Jesus was a man of the cloth (a Jew ie a Rabbi). Yiddish was (and is) the mother tongue (mama loshyn, muter sphrakh) of the Ashkenazi (German) Jews. Hebrew was the holy language (loshyn koydish) and was used only for praying. But Yiddish did have Hebrew words in it and later on, as some Jews migrated eastward, Slavic borrow words. It's a very interesting language. I can send you a private message later with more details.

    PS I'm learning Yiddish too.

    a gutn tog un gezunterheyt

  • @Lagolop

Thanks. I'll be glad to receive the PM. I just started out with Yiddish a few days ago. The alphabet is almost mastered at least. Are you a Jew?

Since when then the Jews stopped speaking Hebrew and came to speak Aramaic? Or for what reason it has been so?

But what did you mean with he being a Rabbi?

    Thanks and a gutn nakht.

  • @meusisto

"The alphabet is almost mastered at least"

You know the Hebrew alphabet! I don't, I can only understand transliteration (like English). Easy cuz Yiddish is a west Germanic language as is Dutch, German, and ENGLISH. Same family. But traditionally Yiddish is written with Hebrew letters. Can you speak Swiss, Austrian or Bavarian German. Yiddish will be easy for you.

"Thanks and a gutn nakht" - A dank un a gute nakht ;) I know weird, a gutn tog, ober a gute nakht.

    Nisht far vos :)

  • @meusisto

"During its 3,000-year history,[4] Aramaic has served variously as a language of administration of empires and as a language of divine worship. It was the day-to-day language of Israel in the Second Temple period (539 BCE – 70 CE), was the original language of large sections of the biblical books of Daniel and Ezra, the Gospel of Matthew,[5] was the language spoken by Jesus, and is the main language of the Talmud.[6]"

  • @meusisto

"Aramaic belongs to the Semitic subfamily, and more specifically, is a part of the Northwest Semitic group of languages, which also includes Canaanite languages such as Hebrew and Phoenician."

  • Aramaic is the most beautiful...

  • I would contact the Syrian orthodox church based in NJ, they are prob. the only entity that would have qualified people to help with this issue, there are some dictionaries that translate it into different languages, for some one who really wants to learn Maloula is a very save town like much of Syria, people are extraordinary hospitable, and the monasteries there have the people who both speak and teach the language, you could live there for a few hundred dollars per month.

  • @zrunningsolo

to "I would contact the Syrian..."

Oh I would love it! Unfortunatelly I don't have these few hundreds per month.

  • Is there any possibility to learn that language?

  • I want to learn that language along with Latin, Arabic and Sumerian.

  • ahh love this ;) my mom is from syria ;) so much history :D

  • @kalkonstek

Haha, stop making stuff up. First of all, if anything the Maloula inhabitants probably calls themselfs Aramaya or Suri ("arab" suri are also arameans, not arabs in reality) and there is no way they would call themselfs Oromoyta or something like that since original aramaic like the western one uses the letter "A" instead of "O" like in Turoyo.

Suroyo-Asuroyo, already proven by assyriologists like Simo Parpola and by findings like the cineköy-inscription. Im assyrian from tur abdin!

  • @Roma10Totti10Roma

God Bless all of the Assyrians that have so diligently preserved the ancient language and Christian culture!

  • 2:02 Hebrew letters?

  • McGrandDragon; It is because this small town just like many villages in Syria today is inhabited by both Christians and Muslims and I guess that when this clip was shot it happened to be prayer time for the local Muslims and the Quran recital is a call for prayer much like church bells sounding as a call for prayer.

  • Why was there Arabic recital of the Qur'an in the Background? It was beautiful

  • @zulfitareen Go vacuum ur self,To another realm where U ACTUAL Understand n believe in God religion Faithfully! Denial won't Help!!!!!

  • I suggest you make another video with more Aramaic in it. It seems such a soft and beautiful language.

  • Hah, bad translation.

  • In fact the two sets of tablets with commandments were written in two different scripts. Moreover, if Hebrew was using an aramaic script then it should've been called "aramaic" script but instead it is called an "ashuri" script and ashurim (assyrians) in ancient times never used this script and spoke akkadian language written in cuniform, a different form of writing altogether.

  • @malkiel2

How can somebody believes in such a bullshit like what you wrote!! OMG What did you smoke before you wrote this? i would like to try it. seems to be very " intense" probably from heaven too...

  • Hebrew alphabet was given in two scripts from Heaven. When a hand appeared in the court of Baalshetsar, emperor of Babylon, and wrote a message from G-d on the wall, the script was the script of the Torah, the "ashuri" script, but noone was able to read it except prophet Daniel, a Hebrew man. "Ashuri" script is translated as "praiseworthy", not assyrian. Aramaic alphabet was copied off of the Torah script and not vice versa. And Torah scripts were given from Heaven.

  • @malkiel2

aramaic was copied from torah.... hahahahahahahaha

    you are totally deluded man

  • beautiful

long live the Aramean people and the holy Aramaic language

    نحن الآراميين

    يحيا الشعب الآرامي السرياني

  • Assyrians:)

  • Syrians , arameans , assyrians are the same people! syria is the aichent assyria ,

  • I've had enough; I am becoming seriously frightened here.

  • chapter 1 of lamentations came up with the word, or set of letters "Mhmodihm."

that obviously translates to "Mohamed," and, amidst the babbling and incoherence, it talks about how that name would cause great sadness to Israel.

  • that's just messed up!

I'm gonna pick a random book of the Old Testament, something I KNOW no one messed with because I haven't looked at it.

  • wow; anyone here interested in the bible, you should play a game with Hebrew being translated by google translate, it is doing some CRAZY stuff. I translated Genesis, and the word "Meena" appeared, the first part of a Hindu temple. Why would the word "meena" be translated from the book of Genesis? However followed by that word is "country" and "insect" and "corruption" that implies that Indians know the one God, but follow a corrupt path.

  • better not take the shit seriously; it was probably a programming fluke.

is it possible though that the ancient Hebrew Torah, even affects computer code?

    creepy... BUT COOL.

  • now, the google translate thing said, the "children of Israel," will go to war with america.

now, the children of Israel strictly speaking are the descendants of Jacob, not "mother only" ashkenazi Jews.

assuming it wasn't some prank, apparently there is a "bible code" thing going. I'm gonna try genesis next and see what I get; I was shocked to see "united states" in there.

  • now, I don't know if it was a hacker, or a virus, but Google translate did something creepy; I actually copied and pasted the original Hebrew to see how google translate would translate it, and, Deuteronomy 28 said, that after a history of damnation, and persecution, the nation of israel would go to war with the united states.

In Daniel Chapter 7, there is a similar prediction, specifically the deuteronomy 28 translation said "the united states, which by the sword you cut."

  • I find the sounds of a donkey being sodomized by a baseball bat wraped in barbwire to be more graceful, than the sound of the Arabic language, or for that matter, the sound of ashkenazic accent Hebrew.

  • aramaic is the oldest semitic language.

  • @pillsburydoughboy47 IN IRAQ TO THER IS MANY VILLAGES WICH SPEAKING ARAMIC AND ASSYRIAN LANGUAGE BUT IN DIFFRENT ACCENT THAN MAALOLA . IN IRAQ THEM LANGUAGE CALLED (SURATH).

  • long live the Aramean nation.

We Syriacs and Syrians are all Arameans and our language is Aramaic (Syriac).

    Tihe Suryoye Oromoye

  • Syrian people is SYRIAN (aramic ) all of them ,, not arab , aramic language is the Syrian language and it was jesus one .

  • @lion8757473

  • beautiful language, the whole levant needs to re learn the language, get OUR history back. our history isnt about the deserts of arabia, its THE FERTILE CRESCENT!!!! the language of Christ must not be forgotten, God protect those who still speak it so that they may pass it on.

  • what does it say 2:36 under the woman statue

    at the top

    i can al islaam

    but what over al islaam?/

  • it doesn't say islam, it says al salam which means peace, Lady of Peace

  • Aramaic is a beautiful language it is the language of our Lord. Peace be with you.

  • maybe aramaic is the language of peace & could help heal the problems of the middle east, any thoughts folks ?

  • I am going to learn aramaic as a Jew I feel if we can encourage our brothers & sisters of other faiths to learn it, then maybe the true spirituality of the book of god can enter their hearts & we can end the problems of the middle east. Christians, muslims & jews believe in a god of love & peace. My family has experienced anti semetism & it caused us pain, but my thoughts are also with the tormented people who felt the need to do this to us, may god help them also to find peace & love.

  • this is amazing

  • please, you wouldn´t even understand the arameans in maalula if you went there! There is a reason why they call your language (A)syrian and aramean aramean... the locals in maalula are but thousands and the only ones known as arameans. How come nobody is saying anything about the 4 million "arameans" in bethnahrin`! and around the world? the LAST king before persians and romans was the ASSYRIAN king Ashur-uballit II. unless you´re saying he´s a aramean king called ashur haha

  • I am a Syrian Muslim and proud that my country still has some of the few people that speak the language of the prophet of peace and love, Jesus Christ, I do not understand why u people curse each other..we have enough space in our beautiful country for Christians, Jews, Christians, Muslims, Arabs, Arameans, Assyrians and Kurds, Jesus asked us to love even our enemy, why can not we love our countrymen..

  • @zrunningsolo speaking as an apatheist (whether God exists or not isn't relevant to my personal life), I've never gotten all the fighting over "X-religion is superior to Y", either. And I certainly don't like it when people try to justify atrocities in the name of God/s. I say live and let live, basically.

I find religious stories and the messages they bring very interesting and certainly something worth listening to, but that's more morals and common sense than any divine intervention.

  • @zrunningsolo

The Syrian language was always strong in this upper northern region however what ever happened to Aramaic?

  • @zrunningsolo i agree 100 percent we all live on this small planet we must respect one another.

  • @zrunningsolo

you are a true person of god, you have no hate in your soul

  • @thetruthforteller

It is so fantastic to read such lovely positive messages.

Speaking as an atheist I am both sad and shocked at the messages I read of hate & spite just because people follow a different religion.

I don't believe in God - but I do believe that we have one life in which we can do good or bad.

  • @zrunningsolo That quistion lives evreyday for the syriac people evrey day.

We need more muslims like you.

Muslims, who have no pride! Also we christian Orthodox should drop our pride!

    Pride is a SIN!

  • @zrunningsolo About 5000 y ago some monks invented the early Jewdism then Christianity and Islam took from it, but IF god really loved us and cared about us so much why did he wait 4995.000 years before he even gave us the idea of religion as we know it or did he just forget about us for almost the entire time, this is why I say that it is not worth being so loyal to one of these religions to the point where we start to discriminate against some one else because of their religion they r invented

  • I am an Arab Muslim from Syria and I am proud to have Armenians as a part of our country and I have many friends from the region that still speaks the language of the most peaceful prophet Jesus and proud to say that most of Islam's teachings come from Christianity..why curse each other, we have a beautiful country and there is enough space for all ..Muslims, Christians,Jews, Arabs, Armenians Assyrians and Kurd.

Jesus said to love even your enemy..why can not we love our countrymen.

  • @zrunningsolo If Youtube agress I give Itrillion Thums up .We have one Heavenly father we three religions pray to him.others who have millions of gods are sitting ideal without quarrel .

    Is this work of satan...

  • @zrunningsolo

What a lovely thing to say.

You are a good ambassador for Islam.

  • You must be blind if you can't see and hear all the Assyrians around you. Who on earth gave birth to you?

Take and moment, deep breath, and think twice before you speak.

  • Arameans?

    Was there an Aramean Empire?

    NO.

The World has ASSYRIAN ART IN THEIR MUSEUMS: Chicago, Paris, Berlin, London, China.

    Arameans...

    WHO?

    LOL

  • all peoples in middle esat countries should unite and keep the iranians from messing with their affairs.

  • Where did you get the estrangulo font?

  • If you have a windows based computer, you can install it under language and regional options on the control panel. add eastern langauges. then install new keyboard, syriac. the font appears differently depending on the computer and website. I see jacobite script on youtube, but on other sites it's the eastern font

  • excuse me, jordan is ruled by hashemites.... arabs... with a large bedioun population

  • Comment removed

  • the first people in jordan in the pre islamic era were Nabataeans, a race of arabs from arabia, who wrote in an arabic script and spoke an arabic language, there werent muslims but there were still arabs in jordan. Chaldeans were also arab nomads from the desrt, arab applied to all nomads from the arabian desert. chaldaens were the one who founded babylon.. and i beleive akkadians were also arabids who came directly from what is now saudi arabia.

  • Comment removed

  • you care what jordanians think, and what they think is that they are arab:)

  • Comment removed

  • Modern jordanians are arab because of the influx in the 7th century. Keep in mind that the arabs are descendents of Shem. The original people of Jordan were not arabs, they were not even from Shemitic lineage. They were Hammitic.

  • the ghassanids were ethnic christian arabs from yemen who migrated to the syrian desert before islam, there is no way that they did not miss jordan.

  • I find your comment interesting, but flawed. The nabateans, true, were arabs. as were the residents of Kedar. However, the chaldeans were not. As close as they get is being cousins. The akkadians, assyrians chaldaeans and arabs are all from semitic ancestry, just as the jews.

    shalom, my beloved brother.

  • king abdullah I of jordan had the same vision as Antun Sadeh, he wanted syria, iraq, lebanon, palestine in a "greater syria", but under arab hashemite monarchy.

  • are there any arameans in israel?where?

  • Just in Jeruzalem, but it is a little community and they are all immigrants.

  • There are Arameans in Jeruzalem, we have there the Syrian-Orthodox church. The Arameans are the people of Mesopotamia. That was SouthEast Turkey, Syria, Irak, Lebanon and Jordania. The Arameans lived today around the whole world. Watch my video for more info.

  • Well Palestinians used to speak Aramaic.. The last Aramaic-speaking Palestinians existed around 100 years ago. They all speak Arabic now.

  • Syriacs are Arameans and not Assyrians. Assyrians are living in Iraq and Iran and we Arameans are living in Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Israel and Libanon.

  • I beg to differ, Mr. Aramean, I'm a Syriac from Lebanon, But I am Assyrian first and foremost.

  • It is surprising that there are aslo Assyrians in Lebanon. It is a good thing that you are everywhere. Don't forget that we are brothers. In ancient time the Arameans and Assyrians were in war but now we share the same religion and language. But it is also a lost that you Assyrians don't speak Akkadian anymore, it was also a very old language. You adopted our language.

  • LOL stop it with the ignorance and stupidity! We are all assyrians and the ones in maalula and sayednaya are real arameans... I am assyrian from southeast Turkey/Syria

  • Hello moron, don't try to give me names like Assyrian, I'm warning you. We from Tur-Abdin have nothing Assyrian so go and teach others false lessons. You are ignorant. Pls talk about your own.

but any way its nice to see some one who writes the same letters like us in israel :/

באמת נחמד מאוד לראות אנשים שקוראים את האותיות האלה

  • A beautiful video preserving the old culture and language.I saw this video twice.

  • Hebrew was JESUS'S liturgical/religious language, but Aramaic was their LINGUA FRANCA (the day-to day language spoken in the streets)

  • First of all, lingua franca does not mean the day to day spoken language. that is the colloquial or conversational language. lingua franca is a language used by people of different linguistic backgrounds to communicate such as English is today. In the time of Jesus, the lingua franca was Greek, not Aramaic. Aramaic was the conversational language used by Jews amongst themselves in the time of Jesus. As for Hebrew, it disappeared during the time of the babylonian captivity.
