  • Good. I came up with a slight variation about 30 years ago.

  • It doesn't replicate exactly what the steadicam does. Still not practical if you need a real steadicam.

  • you da maaaaaaan! awesome idea, I have an old tripod I would have never used again and it just got a new life as a steadycam!

  • @torx82 me too!xD

  • Very nice. Great video

  • This is genius!

  • Nice job of demoing your clever design! Wish all how-to videos were done this well.

  • I have a canon xh a1 but I'm gonna get this tripod because i don't need a professional one right now. Most my films will be handheld anyway. This is perfect.

  • i love you !!!! this is the best DYI :)

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW i'm soooo gonna use this technique for my project! thanks!

  • молодец!

  • too bad my shitty tripod doesnt have any screws.. :(

  • Guy it's a genius way to save a lot of bucks n make a professional lookin movie my thumbs up to that & it definately got my subscription.... Excellent stuff any other good ideas !?

  • Is that an hv20?

  • Great idea! Rally cool!

  • Thank you thank you thank you. This is brilliant. I have a tripod, this is just what I needed. I don't need to buy anything and I can get the stable moving shots I need for my next movie!

  • So fuckin awesome

  • Would my Canon EOS 60D dslr be ideal for this?

  • Smart idea, but only works with tripods similar to yours...

  • I love your dog x'D

  • Thank you so much ! What a great idea and an excellent video!!!

  • Great Job! Love the way you have done this.

  • nice work

  • Buy another cheap camera for better demos - nice idea though - the simplicity is amazing!

  • Thank you so much for this video! I'm very bad at building all the DIY stuffs and this! This helps me a lot!

  • That's pretty awesome! Great job!

  • at 4:21 i was like oh sh*t mayday mayday were going down

  • @999GHz ditto

  • thank you so very much.

  • My tripod is too light, there is no screw and the leg cannot turn in that way.. xD

  • Hey man where did you get this Music from please right back asap thanks!

  • I got the music from Kevin MacLeod's site "Incompetech." The opening song is called "Dreamy Flashback."

  • @SundogPictures Thanks it's the perfect song for a production of mine

  • Really nice video and I´ve been watching camera tricks all over the internet for a long time, this one is extremely good!

  • Great share

  • i don't have any screw on my tripod :S

  • sick man. props

  • You're one smart fellow

  • This is awesome man

  • genius. I nominate this guy for the Youtube Nobel Digital Peace Prize!

  • @foggymedia he has my vote!

  • excellent idea!!

  • ..................................O: GENIUS.

  • $_$

  • Wow! amazing! has anyone tested this with a DSLR and focusing at the same time?

  • awsome trick!

  • 00:42 fail

  • Great Idea, great tutorial, i'll give a try by tomorrow. Thanks

  • AMAZING! haahahhaha

  • I followed your example but instead sacrificed my cheap chinese tripod. My set up doesn't have the extra handle. I made a short anaglyph 3d video using my camera stabilizer. The video is included in my youtube uploads. Looking for ways to improvise is a fun hobby to me.

  • you are now officially the hero of my wallet. I think they should name a day after you.

  • Good tip! I'm going to make my next film with this technique.

  • wow this is goin to help me alot, and i was thinking of ways to do that with all sorts of weird things, thanks!

  • hmm, I think my 600d is going to be too heavy for this.

  • @TySpoonz Mine isnt. it works.

  • the tripod extension thingy? Im now spectacle about this

  • @TheGSPFilms1 Was that a joke? You realize it's "skeptical," right?...

  • @landolakes its my mac spell check and thats not the point

  • Looking forward to trying this. :)

  • hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • welldone... thanks!

  • thank you ,very clever. I look forward to trying this out.

  • i see you use his music as well ;)

  • That is sweet!!! I am going to try that right now, thubs up from me dude!!!!

  • wooow..good idea.... ilove it! 2 thumb up!!

  • Cross point?

That s called a Phillips screwdriver.

In "proportion" to the tripod head ...

I think you mean to say ; In relationship to the tripod mount.

"Extension thingy " would be the correct term for the center tube however.

  • good job... might be a tad hard to navigate with around tight spaces like if you were making a video of the insides of a house. still, very innovative :)

  • Awesome video, nice jewfro.

  • thanks thats great!

  • Brilliant!

  • thanks:) i was contemplating buying a steadicam but didnt want to pay..lol u saved my life..or at least the quality of my documentary im about to make:)

  • Nice Job kid.

  • Great instruction and nice shots!

  • Pure Genius.

  • oooh this is actually really cool

  • TKS, TKS, TKS, GOD BLES YOU , YOU HELPE ME A LOTTTTTTTTTT.

  • Wow, you're good. Very clever idea.

  • great video u helped us the save the buck :) thnks for uploading

  • lol awesome! Ive always done a ghetto variation of that, where i just hold the legs out far it gets good balance but that's better!

  • Great idea, thanks - the 42 people who disliked must work for Steadicam! :)

  • good vid. Nice to see you got Brad Pitt to narrate.

  • Don't mind your vocabulary, as long as you get the message accross. Plus, you've got yourself a new subscriber!

  • Couldn't you just wind the center collumn up or down to balance it instead of making your super-long dangerous steadicam any longer?

  • Nice idear ! Thank you for sharing it with us ! :)

  • Chuck Norris doesn't need this stabiliser. He kicks gravity off. :)

  • check out the New Camera Mount Clamp

  • NICEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • That IS Jesse Eisenberg! But great idea mate, nice one!

  • Very usefull, thanks 4 this man!.

  • Idea is brilliant but you could hv used another camera to show the demonstration..... We could hardly see the operation like how you are handling the tripod after mounting your camera .....other wise it's a brilliant idea

  • Evil Genius!

  • That is awesome!

  • This is the smoothest DIY stabilizer I've seen! Simple, yet highly effective. For dslr shooters it works just fine for anything shot wide, and with a deep focus.

  • WELL DONE! I REALLY LIKE YOUR IDEA! REALLY INCREDIBLE!!!!

  • "no cost", well..

  • Final product looks very proffesional. Thank you for this video.

  • Great idea. Thank you!

  • you're a freakin' genious man

  • This is a great idea but not so much for DSLR users as handy cams have good autofocus and DSLRs should really be operated manually. Unless someone can figure out a follow focus system for this...

  • @nateo200 zip ties on the focus ring plus strings from the zipties to your hands.

    maybe

  • i broke my tripod.thanks

  • @zhekazlo Bahahahaha!

  • @zhekazlo Was your camera on it?

  • Wow dude, this is awesome!

  • I'm A Musician And I Would Like To Shoot Music Videos. I Too Am Trying To Get Familiar With Videography And I Like This Video You Showed About Steadicam. Do You Think I Too Can Show A Friend How To Use This This Steadicam To Help Film Me For a Music Video?

  • Serious grats from all us amature movie makers dude! Thanks!

  • How do you like this tripod? I am looking to purchase it myself.

  • combined with software stabilizing this would be very good :-)

  • The only problem I see with this is that during such a shot, it's hard to change the settings on your camera. So if you want to make a moving shot and change focus at the same time, you're out of luck if you're using this.

    Otherwise, this seems great.

  • You are a god among insects dont let any other camera men tell you anything different.

  • Ok look good and cheap

  • This is brilliant dude.....gonna try this

  • Wow That was easy!

  • @Reyzcommentz >_>... <_<... *Presses Easy button* "That was easy."

  • thanks dude ive made some vids and i always have a problem with stillness and u have helped me so much

  • I have got to try this. Thanks. But the size of this merricam looks ridiculous. I hope it's not too heavy.

  • damn... :(

    my tripod is riveted... :(

  • @madtvm Hahahaha I bet mine is too :( It was like 5 pounds

  • THIS IS AMAZING

  • Thx! It'll help a lot!

  • wow!

  • hi dude, what's the name of the song ( 0:05-0:47 ) playing?

  • what camera are you using in this video/how big/heavy is it? my concerns are if this will work on a higher end camera like an hpx 170

  • @TrombonersEverywhere read the description

  • Dude, this is effing brilliant!

  • 4:38 It's Mark Zuckerberg

  • @pianoguru16 OMG, you're right it is Zuckerberg!

  • yea it is

  • Man, that's the best trick i've seen in my life. I'm definitely putting your name in the credits of my shortfilm. Greetings from Colombia.

  • Great idea. That is DOPE!

  • HEY!! That is fantastic!! Great idea, I really want to thank you for this video... it basically confirmed my suspicions that it WAS indeed possible + a good idea to use the tripod for steady work when I used it to shoot a "steady + circular" shot of myself as if "spinning" in a vid I did... :)

    Thanks again... simply fantastic. :)

  • any genius ideas on a jib?

  • dude!!!!!! marry me. this needs to be shown to every person on earth!

  • O ---M----G!!!!

  • Incredible....thank you so much...never knew I could use my tripod as a steadycam

  • geeeennniiiuuusss!!!

  • this is amazing, i was just about to spend around £100 on a stedicam, you just saved me alot of money :)

  • Thank you so much!

  • Your vocal mannerisms remind me of Mr. Rogers. That's a compliment by the way...

  • My tripod has pins :( However, that's not your fault, and I think this is a brilliant idea! Thanks for sharing it.

  • WOW! I'm about to film a movie today and i'm REALLY happy I just found this. :)

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • wow your a genius

  • thanks. ingenious idea and highly effective - if a little bulky for some use. i should think tweaking the balance with the legs is quicker to adjust for lens changes etc than a glidecam.

  • You're right RealCereal, I've had my Cam Caddie for a couple of years and there's nothing that compares to it in price and efficiency.

  • the song is by Kevin MacLeod and it's called dreamy

    hope that helped any one

  • Good idea but it may be more effective to put down $38 for the Cam Caddie Scorpion which can attach to tripods if needed.I've been using it with great success capturing fast moving shots from all angles.

  • Very good job! You're genius!

  • i WAS SO EXCITED ABOUT TRYING THIS!! then i realised my tripods legs were pinned.. fml :/

  • @MattRoCkShOw Same. but you know what? i liked this isea the most, i went to best buy and grabbed a sunpak 750 tripod. was worth it.

  • greatttttttttttt

  • Hope it works with my 550D.. fingers crossed XD

  • doesnt work with heavier cameras, like a dslr

  • @nuksfilms Add a water bottle and some duct tape to the exteded legs and the weight is easily blalnced. Tried it and it works great.

  • @joshiswaitingforchri great thinking! will try that.. thanks haha

  • Ingenious... thank you !!!!!!!

  • simple effective , and I am going to hack up my tripod too :)

  • genius!!!

  • Incredible!! Let's destroy all the tripods! They are useless!!! Awesome!!!!!

  • I think this is freaking awesome. I'm going to go hack up my tripod right now :-)

  • can we put some wieght instead ... so i can move more freely in small places .. cz the legs are too tall

  • very creative and ingenious. keep up the good work!!!

  • wowww cool rig! what about time lapse-photography?

These guys have time-lapse device that woks for ALL cameras, even P&S and phonecams: tempusALL.bymac.org

  • whats the name of the sound track?

  • that was awesome bro! did you think of this yourself? thank you for sharing, it was also great the way you included the mirror shot at the end! Thank you!

  • should I do this with my 5d Mark II. I'm scared it could fall of.

  • Crosspoint? I believe you mean phillips head...

  • @beatngo710: Philips head? You mean "plus sign" vs. "minus sign". We should really change the names of those screw drivers to something more intuitive.

  • @aaronwierenga Ooh ooh!!! How about...screwey head and boring head? :D

  • What do you edit with? (Program)

  • it's like magic on a camera.

  • Pure Genius!

  • twothumbsup............. way Up !
