just saw him live the other evening, he had a seven man band backing him throughout the concert, which was excellent - and then for the encore he came on and did this one by himself with just an acoustic guitar... a couple of days later i still don't have words.
@aliasanythingyouwant I just saw him too, and I posted almost the exact same thing on another video. I'm glad you saw him too, and also have no words.
Most profound songwriter of our folk generation. This man can turn armies of soldiers into people refusing to hold anything but flowers and thoughts of love. He can bring emperors to their knees in respect for their fellow man. This man can change things. This man IS changing things.
I really like when he sings the song like this. I mean, I've always loved his Lo-Fi stuff, but the live performances highly overshadow the records. Or maybe I'm a dick.
first time i heard this i was crying like a damn baby by the time i got to the part that goes- 'Please, remember me. My misery, and how it lost me all I wanted...' absolutely beautiful.Sam Beam is the man.
One of the few songs and performers that can give me goosebumps throughout a seven minute period of time. He just fills every space he's in, like he's too big for this little record store room (I don't mean to "big" of an artist to grace the record store with his presence, I mean that he literally fills more space than that room can hold with his presence). I wish I had been there!
sam beam is one of those rare few that have the ability to sound better live than on record, because the raw talent he has to be captivating all on his own. amazing.
@kevinriley91 I am about 90% sure that that guitar is a Taylor 714ce with a western red cedar top. Taylor had a newsflash a while back that said that he purchased a Taylor 314ce and a 714ce (I presume he uses the 314ce as a beater guitar and for hard strumming).
I'm so happy that in this version people don't "WOOOO" like fucking idiots when he says "Fuck the man"..it always takes away from the sincerity and atmosphere of the live performance.
Where is Blutto when you need him.
