This band SOUNDS so good.Is it the room??? GOD! The bass sounds spectacular!...I mean everyone sounds spectacular!!! I'm just gonna shut up and click 'replay'...
@jbry5 Glad you like it! Unfortunately, we only had the rights to post one song in video form. However, you can get the full audio of the performance and interview at kplu (dot) org. Hover over "Jazz" in the navigation bar, then click on "Studio Sessions."
Roy Hargrove has such a big sound and a commanding presence. But if you ever see him sit in at the jam sessions in NY, the dude's like 5'2! It's crazy!
Roy Hargrove used to come to Chicago on Thanksgiving weekend every year (2006-2008 roughly), in 2009 he came on New Year's weekend. I saw him at the Jazz Showcase the night after NYE, and they played an amazing set. They got an enthusiastic standing ovation that didn't stop. When they took the bandstand again for the encore, "Soulful" is what they played and it was simply the best thing I've ever heard. He dedicated it to Chicago..."...this is what I think of you, Chicago...Soulful."
Liked it all. For years, now, I am a big fan of Roy's. A special comment about the dynamic playing of Montez, from piano to forte on a studio drumkit - great musician, fantastic ears!
Roy says, "The working title right now is "Soulful." It is definitely a favorite at the shows. Just don't call it "Soulful Kisses." That title is taken by Russell Malone.

@trotskyone ...No...this is not recorded yet. In fact, at this taping...Dec 2009... it was fairly new, and Roy had just named the tune...."He said I think I am calling it "soulful.""
You can easily tell Roy LOVES what he does for a living... thats amazing just watching everyones chemistry.. Roy is the best of the best along with his entourage
@anthonya13, its possible... RH its very versatil and all musicians have soul and Rene Neufville, She sings beautyfull soul sometimes with Roy Hargrove. He allready playd with great soul singers as Diane Reeves, etc. Why dont you join Hem as a fan and you can follow RH pages? will be real fun for you ;-) hope I helped you

I only hear "Soulful," not the other two songs listed in the description.
I was delivering flowers when this program was on the radio. Thank you for getting them in the studio and sharing their music with the fans.
