  • For some reason I love to watch the first part of this movie, up to the point where the Borg sphere is destroyed.

  • This is just FANTASTIC and I'll give you 10 stars for the upload**********

  • wow!

  • amazing.....change

  • it inbetween sounds like "lent" parts from brahms:

Brahms: Symphony No. 1 / Rattle · Berliner Philharmoniker

  • @FuckYouWithThisNames Yes, but only the beginning, not the beautiful rest :)

  • I love the opening credits of this movie.

  • NASA History CH played this theme during a feature on the shuttle. Took me a half hour to remember where I had heard it. Does not get any better!

  • I love how the theme switches from being nice and happy to "you will be assimilated, resistance is futile".

  • And then the borg come in and make you crap your pants again

  • "Speak for yourself sir, I plan to live forever."

  • This whole score is so well composed. You dont have to like ST to appreciate it.

  • PREPARE FOR RAMMING SPEED!

  • my friends the best theme ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • best star trek music ever

  • We need a return to great adventure sci-fi in films, like star trek, a return to some real space action. And with music just like this all along the way, less epic, racy, choir, chanting music.

  • everytime i listen to this song i feel like im going to cry, its just so great!

  • All of this death and destruction because the Borg told him there were 5 lights.....such a waste.

  • best star trek movie theme ever!

  • "Ready? because we have a date with history!"

  • 0:30 - 2:45 Favourite part anyone knows that piece?

  • I love "first contact"! ^^ I watched it so often that I can speak parts of it by heart ^^ And I think it has the best soundtrack of all Star Trek movies :)

  • @TheCrazybearbear: Ime it's still the best of all ST Movies

  • This theme really takes me back. From :40 on it sounds so much like the jupiter piece by i think gustov holst the plant suite not exactly like it, but very similar.. Both this theme and that theme are very moving

  • This opening theme by Jerry Goldsmith is absolutley fantastic, it is as good as the Wrath of Khan or Motion Picture opening. This and the Voyager opening theme moves me to tears everytime I hear it. I am about to cry as I am writing this. Goldsmith, in the context of Star Trek, has the ability to thrill, frighten, and move the audience with what he does in his scores for the Star Trek shows and films.

  • I wish I could live in the future. I also wish someone could start a new star trek tv show. Awesome Theme song.

  • April 5, 2063 - First Contact to take place in Bozeman, Montana; I will be 74 years old then. If it doesn't happen, I'll blame the Borg. We're counting on you, Picard!

  • This film represented the high water mark of the next generation era!

  • this is actually my fav movie (maybe nemesis) the new star trek movie wasn't really a bad movie or anything but there were huge mistakes in it. things like a single super nova wouldn't threaten a galaxy, black holes don't make you travel through time, the romulans run their ships on artificial black holes so why would they have to wait on spock to go get some red stuff to make one. things like that

  • the supernova threatened Romulus only.

  • romulas was destroyed by it but when spock was telling the story to kirk, spock said that the nova threatened the galaxy. besides as i said earlier romulans run there ships on black holes, the reason spock gave on why romulus was destroyed was that he was too late, the romulans could have just rammed a few ships in there and the problem would be solved

  • yes, it was said on "the next generation" that the Romulan war birds power source was an "artificial singularity"

  • And then they blamed Spock, a vulcan, for not helping them even though the romulans despised vulcans.

  • black holes can't but wormholes can

  • is actually 0:38 - 2:45 is the track "Welcome Aboard" from Star Trek First Contact Soundtrack CD ?

  • This is my 2nd favorite.

    The new one kicked ass.

But before the new movie, This was my favorite.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • all the themes are great but this one is my fav.

  • Mine too, love NG, DS9 and Voyager and their theme tunes.

This was the first Star Trek film I went to see and I loved it

  • where did you download this?

  • A great work

    A great film

    A great song

    5*****

  • I like the theme to Star Trek Generations slightly more, but this is definately a beautiful piece.

  • jerry goldsmith i believe that wrote this song

  • sry for asking:D but who did this masterpiece?

  • I saw a rather interesting video on youtube that was called "The Best and Worst of American History" set to this song. I'm considering making a similar video to it, the first part of nice music can be all the wonderful things that happened in the 20th century, the second, ominous part, can show all the ugly things.

  • One of the most beautiful scores He ever did. He will be missed

  • Sorry for being slow, but please don't tell me that Jerry Goldsmith is no onger with us. His music has kept me going for many a long journey through europe in the lorry.

If this is the truth, RIP Jerry and THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dang now I wanna see the movie

  • One of the best movies ever made, in my opinion. Rent or buy the DVD. I guarantee that you will watch it several times.

  • This theme is harmonic, its emotional, its wonderful ! I love it

  • I do not know about anyone else, but when I listen to this theme tune I feel as if nothing in life is impossible to achieve. I feel as if I could go as one man, and change the world.

  • I'm there, man. I'm there.

  • Speaking as someone who plays this on piano, I find that it is more of a triumphant song than an inspiring one. It is inspiring, but it seems to celebrate a victory more than anything else.

It is impossible not to love a song where the instruments are practically screaming to be heard, like at the part starting at 1:33

Check out the video entitled Awesome Electric Violin - Ed Busking Chester as well. I promise that it will not disappoint. I bought all of the performer's CDs after hearing it.

  • @brummyuk You took the words right out of my mouth! I listen to it every time I'm down or a little out of sorts.

  • i want the end theme played at my funeral.

  • This is by far the best sta rtrek theme.

  • Next to ST:TMP, this is my favorite theme.

  • The only possibility of even getting any technology near the ST series, in the same period of time as theirs, would be a world war. Look how far technology advanced during ww2.

  • Magnificent piece of music. Perfectly suits the Enterprise.

  • This is my favorite End theme out of every Star Trek movie.

  • if they brought back TNG with the Enterprise E I would hope this would be the theme, and the USS Titan as a reoccurring guest

  • Such a beautiful theme filled with hope. Now with scientists saying hyperdrive is possible....I hope we make it to the stars and meet Vulcans and others like them.

An end to war, poverty, famine, crime, disease....the idea could bring tears of joy to one's eye.

  • Hey- 2063's not that far off, who knows.....

  • Point taken, but I'd like to avoid WW3 and the Augments if at all possible.

  • Though this raises the question- will we use a nuclear missile to achieve warp drive too?

  • There's no way.

It's not even relevant to their idea of warp.

He just uses it to get out of the atmosphere.

  • I thought the NX-01 launched in 2051

Either way, no signs we will be launching anything capable of spacetravel before 2100 :(

  • No. It was 2151 I believe.

  • And that's still a good 150 years off.

Why, 150 years ago we couldn't even FLY on our own planet.

Now we've set foot on the moon, and sent man made machines to another world, and sent probes.

And right now, still, even with now crew and little direction, those probes ARE boldly going where no man has gone before........

  • Or likely will go for another 150 years.

  • but no man is going there, just probes.

  • Hear Hear!

  • :')

    true

  • When i saw that the first time i had tears in my eyes... so beautiful ..

  • I like all the theme music for all the Trek Movies, but this is my favorite.

  • I saw this one at the cinema an epic truly inspiring theme and a really hard act to follow

  • They should have used this for Enterprise, it very much echoes the idea of a noble pioneer on an early expedition.... and you can just see all the spaceship flyby shots fitting in nicely.

  • there are not many pieces of inspirational music better than this , absolutely lovely theme and looking 4ward to new Strar Trek Movie too

  • Most of the time I skip the intro to a movie because it just bores me. With this movie, I did not. The song just instantly made me think of how good can and will, always, triumph over evil.

  • Ultimate!

  • Nice !!

  • This is my favourite Star Trek film theme tune, thanks for uploading it.

  • somebody should cover this with a guitar XD

  • Thats what i want to do, at the moment i try to figure out the melody by ear. :D

  • why dont you use the tabs to help you??? just type in "first contact main theme tabs", they helped me XD

  • because i wanted to do it myself, you can see the result in the videoanswer :D

  • haha I'm just joking. This is a beatiful piece of music.

  • if i wasn't such a rediculously tough guy I'd totally cry my eyes out listening to this.

  • I like this one most.... Insurrection right after it... Nemesis following... the rest in the back ;-)

  • No question, one of the best movie themes ever!

  • Star Trek at it's very best! Love<3<3<3

  • this is definatly better than john william's best work.

  • A masterpiece, such a beautiful song, gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it, in a good way ;)

  • Jerry Goldsmith crafted a gorgeous theme for this film.

    15/10

  • this theme makes me think that nothing is impossible that one day we will adventure into space

  • it is very inspiring :)

  • I love this theme, it's so beautiful and it carried on through the years of growing up as one of the most memorable pieces of music. The movie is the best Star Trek movie in my opinion and at the age of 9yrs old, was the movie to introduce me to the Star Trek franchise....never had heard of it before that.

  • as soon as i heard this theme i knew it was going to be an incredible movie, and i was right.

  • My favorite Star Trek movie, too. I love this opening theme and the Borg are my favorite 'bad guys' and I love Picard, my fav captain.

  • my favorite to it the best

  • Interesting fact for all you fans of dear Jerry Goldsmith: He composed from 0:00 to 3:20 and his son actually composed the rest, the more chaotic part of the song.

  • Thank you for posting it. Thank you!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Epic... just epic...

  • old skool Goldsmith.... Good to hear this again... thanks for posting... Don't get me wrong... I'm a Hans zimmer fan for over a decade... actually since 1991. However Zimmer hasn't done something as subtle, delicate or elegant like goldsmith here... and this is Goldsmith not even breaking a sweat!!!

RIP, Mr goldsmith... You're Immortal lives in people's ears...

  • the wrath of khan is ma favorite movie and first contact and nemesis

  • GENERATIONS is my fav movie.. but of course i love all star trek

  • Jerry Goldsmith died in 2004??!??!? I didn't know!! Aww he was a fantasic composer, especially of star trek music! I loved this one, sounded so sweeping and majestic!

    RIP Gerry :o(

  • I didn't know until I got ST: First Contact SE a year or two back, I was gutted, he did so much work besides Star Trek and is a legend.

  • This score is my very favorite from all of the ST movies. Jerry outdid himself with this piece of music. It is without a doubt one of the most moving scores of his wonderful career. Thank you for posting it.

  • You are absolutely right. I must confess that this music made me cry quite a few times.

  • A very beautiful theme, one of my favorites for sure. For anyone who has the special edition DVD of first contact I strongly recommend to watch the bonus feature "Jerry Goldsmith: A Tribute"

  • one of the best scores ever

  • Love this movie RIP Jerry Goldsmith he will be missed. I get verry tearry eyed when I hear his Music Like the score he did for Epcot's Soarin Attraction

  • oooooh Yes afterace! :)

    R.I.P Jerry Goldsmith :´(

  • great tune, great movie that was!!

  • hey, you're kinda showing us up here

  • Comment removed

  • great song. very moving.

  • KuruSeed- You are a genius!!;Inspired comments indeed-Thank you.

  • Got goose bumps at 2:05

  • Awesome post! So true, but for me they started at 0:38 and ended at 2:41. ;D

  • Well...By a strange twist of irony-I appear to have spelled your name wrong Aphofis00-Ah well-guess we're all only human after all eh!.

  • got a lump in my troat when the vulcans landed

  • imagened. this could be the future. not first contact. i mean star trek at all. not with the same technologi, maybe without other spezies other kind of life but with one dream: to fly to the stars.

  • Aphosis00- why cant you fuckin spell!!!!?- Read books you fuckin idiot!!!-Jesus Christ, this fuckin winds me right up-I fuckin HATE people who kant ffukkin sbelle!!!!

  • As a people we should adhere to a basic sense of knowledge. The ability to spell is taught from the very beginning of our scholastic lives and is even taught before entering school. Either by parents reading children fun time animal farm picture books to sesame street. Count in the fact that we have so many ways to check and correct spelling that there should be no reason why anyone should have anything spelled wrong besides grammar, which spell checkers and our own eyes cannot fully correct-

  • without investing some time to find such errors. However by the time we're supposedly allowed on most website (age 13, I believe) we should have basic grasp of spelling and grammar to present our thoughts in such a manner that makes it easy for other people to read and understand.

  • However the decline of such basic skills is by, well, people like YOU. Anti-Intellectualism is destroying our credibility as a people and makes everyone outside of America think we're nothing but a bunch of stupid-

  • It's so pretty

  • Everytime i listen to this song, i get shivers.

    Resistance, is futile.

  • Not the main theme, but the OPENING theme ;)

  • Along with The Voyage Home, and Wrath of Khan, this is one of my favorite ones.

  • As some put it rather nicely Bloody fantastic undoubtedly a great classic movie theme.

    Also about the best Star Trek NG movie.. So far!;

  • love this gunna get this played at my funeral not being morbid but it will be first contact with the next world together with time to say goodbye song

  • One of the very best films ive ever seen in my life! And one of the best themes i've ever heard!

  • love this theme :)

  • I love the old star trek movie but I don't particularly like the original series

  • This is one of MANY reasons that First Contact was the best Trek film, save for maybe Khan.

  • 2:05 is my favorite part. ^_^

  • I love Generations, First Contact, and Insurrection. They both had good supporting actors like Malcolm McDowell, James Cromwell, and F. Murray Abraham.

  • 10 years ago this movie came out and was by far the best star trek movie, and this theme is bloody fantastic!

  • That it is, my friend.

The whole piece sets you into a soothing, yet emotional state as humanity reaches an era of peace and enlightenment. I can only hope the Galactic Federation reported by many people on Earth are really coming in 2012 and Star Trek becomes a reality.

  • great/beautiful/perfect music. I wish I was as good.

  • its all great mainly the concept of it humanity losing its greed wooo that would be amazing

  • I know everyone loves the first part but I really like the borg stuff afterwards in this too, you don't think that such noises come from instruments, deep grinding mechanical noises...

  • Absolute brilliant composition

I agree >> best Star Trek Theme.

    Can't wait for XI

  • great moive but not my fav

  • it is such a beautiful piece of music, which is a perfect accompaniment to the best star trek film so far, since gotta wait for Star Trek XI(2009)

  • Beautiful, absolutely love it!

  • Just recently I heard a drum core play this in Louisville... made me really happy to hear it... :D

  • love it...man kind taking its steps into a new frontier

  • First contact was good but i personaly enjoyed Insurection and Nemisis better.

  • Finally someone who likes Nemesis! Good on us. :)

  • lol thanks I really thought Nemesis was a good movie any my favorite of the next Generation saga i think it got bad reveiws because star trek wasent as popular during that time I've pretty much seen all the shows except for DS9 because its never on TV.

  • You need to watch DS9. I grew up with TNG but DS9 is hands down the most bold show. I love anything Star Trek but do yourself a favour and watch DS9 :)

oh and almost any Goldsmith track is superb!

  • Well if the ever bring it back on TV i may start watching it again though my favorite crew is TNG my show that i've seen is Voyager but mostly i divide the movies and shows into old star trek and new star Trek, with old star trek series is probobly the worst of all the star trek saga but its still funny, The old movies are really good though and my favorite is the undiscoverd country. with new star trek my favorite show is Voyager, and my favorite movie is Nemisis.

  • DS9 was my favourite of the Treks as I like the continuous plot and the fact that the characters had chance to develop properly. That being said, my favourite crew was of the TNG.

  • is like the original, but worst (much slower)

  • best Star Trek song ever

  • i loved how picard transformed and became just bad as the borg in his quest for revenge

  • brillient music to a brillient film.argubly the best star trek movie this really captured what star trek was about

  • I didn't think I'd find it. Thanks so much You Tube for posting this..."LIVE LONG AND PROSPER"

  • ha ha thanks *makes the Vulcan hand sign* "Live long and prosper"

  • BEAUUUUUUUTIFUL !!!!

  • first class

  • Love it....it has this brave new world theme to it that gives you the impression that mankind is really taking it's first step into a new frontier
