  • i can say that that is one hell of a beast

i've been lucky enough to fly in one just like it from 22 sqd with out being injurde there was nothink like it .. nice vid

  • Look carefully at the blades. They are slowed down due to strobing caused by the frame rate, as mentioned. They cone as the pilot pulls power just prior to lift off. Also notice that the strobing effect actually makes them appear as though they are turning in the wrong direction.

Finally if I remember correctly the main rotor rpm is somewhere in the region of 240 or maybe 270 rpm, long time since I worked on them.

  • In response to some of the comments on here...

I worked on these aircraft for 4 years ('86 to '90) when I was in the RAF. To those who say the pilot should not have landed on the soft sand, that's rubbish. These crews are well trained, very professional and extremely dedicated. However, they always carefully analyse and risk assess any landing they carry out away from prepared helo landing sites. There was no risk involved.

  • its called fps... frame per seconds....

  • @Moodsaver And the RPM's are going the same speed

  • magic helicopter hardly needs to spin to fly.

  • talk about one sickass helicopter

  • wow. i was there when this video was being recorded watching the helicopter

  • here in saskatchewan canada. half an our ambulance ride was 1000 canadian dollars...imagine this!

  • Pilot should be pulled up on landing on that soft area.

However, nice coning on the blades.

  • I know its real but it is just so weird to see the blades move so slow and the helicopter be like floating away.lol

  • That's a Sea Stallion variant, right?

  • @basjumper002

It is a westland sea king

  • @The458698

    Thanks!

  • FABULOUS!!! Mike

  • It was real, a swimmer was injured.

  • was it practice or real thing. also did anyone else notice how deep its landing gear had sunk into the wet sand

  • Sir Nyquist would loved this if he was still alive

  • the blades spin the other way on them, as well

  • No I mean in the sand

  • Wow, if there where small waves were it was parked, it would sink very deep

  • @lars808 actually it is amphibious so it would just float.

  • Clacton on Sea, Essex, UK?

  • fucking seaking let me die lol

  • Reminds me of where the same heli is parked in GTA San Andreas lol

    Weird..

  • its nothing with the camera its the rpm of the blades make it look slow

  • Nothing intresting

  • shut up faggot

  • nah man its real its just the camera pixels cant keep up with how fast the blades are going this makes them look slow but trust me they are moving fast

  • I think its the frame rate that makes it look slow, not the pixels

  • exactly :)

  • @socc3rplay3r1 absolutely right

  • its the shutter speed, it has nothing to do with pixels

  • mit dem propeller ist irgendwas nicht in ordnung xD

  • It's not fake. the camera just makes the blades look like they're spinning slower than they actually are. It's called strobe effect.

  • @aniyn its not the camera its the light, but yes it is called the strobe effect. You can see the same effect with the naked eye so its not the camera

  • its because the frame rate of the camera is close to the rmp of the rota blades.

  • does anyone else notice the dihedral of the rotors right before take off..its pretty sweet.

  • Definatley a Seaking. I clean them for a living. This is a MK 3 version.

Surprised to see it get out that sand though, with all that weight. When we take the ones to the heliport at work, we have to avoid the grass, because it can get quite soft.

  • Is it still policy for the crew to stay on the ground until the victim is stable until they take off? I learned in the scouts that whenever you see a medical chopper on the ground not taking off when someone's inside it, it's because they're not stable. that still the case...Anyone, anyone?

  • Brother, its hard to say. Ground ambulances often times operate that way but as a flightmedic I did not like the idea. I had seen to many people die because of people taking too much time on the ground. If you are withing 15 min. of the hospital, I would rather work on them in the bird and get them to the controled environment of the hospital where they have Everything and Everyone.

  • jkjk

  • Sea King ;p

  • ur an idiot, it is a roflcopter and it goes swooshswooshswooshswoosh

  • roflmao

  • ur a bigger idiot, they actually go, ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL.

  • lol

  • haha atleast u get what a ROFLCOPTER is.

  • i think its a sea king but it looks too long

  • ...it is a sea king

  • its the way that you see it thT Mkes it look slow but that counts to how much rpm the rotars are spinning at too.

  • cool video

The heli main roter rotates about 800 - 1000

    revolution per minute

  • Im assuming this is an Sikorsky S61 helicopter and its head rotor spead comes no where near 800rpm. If i remember correctly the rotorspeed is kept steady at something like 350 rpm. Maybe even lower. For those who like to know, i maintain helicopters for a living including the S61, though i just finished school so im not certain about the exact number.

  • actually this is a sea king that explains why the rotor blades spin at such low rpm

  • its the cam recording speed that makes the blades look like there turning slow if they turned that slow they would never get off the ground............ strewth give me strength

  • Tide comming in or out??

  • how cool that it videod as if the rotors were moving that slow for real

  • British helicopters are magic

  • These Seaking HAR3's have just had sand filters fitted in front of the engines and a full avionics upgrade including thermal video camera same as the ones on the Coastgaurd S61's. I live near to where these are based.

  • If any pilot did this type of set down(where I work)they would be sacked the next DAY!

  • They can land just about anywhere they like..only surrounding's limit this.

  • I don't think it matters that much for a rescue heli. They don't really get to choose where someone needs to be rescued from. Although it doesn't look like anyone is in need in this video, they're probably just on a training exercise.

  • LOL! british helicopters are magic!!!

  • RAF helicopters are magic... but the slow rotors is just because of the way the camera works! They move a lot faster in reality!

  • Its the frame rate. inda like how tvs flash when theyre recorded
