  • This is SO COOL!

  • I wish my local affiliates would do this online during a live newscast!

  • In scotland, our Local station STV, their master control room is about the size of that control room...

  • I have done prompter work and such, but the split focus required to make sense of this must truly be a learned art. Youtube taught me something today!

  • Would love to see another one of these videos done guys!

Please suggest it to whoever decides the behind the scenes content!

  • Any chance we could get more of these. But maybe with the camera held by someone while they are on the floor watching the camera men. And is there a way for someone to come into the studio to see how things are done? Someone who is studying to become a cameraman?

  • What is the thing that looks like a plane throttle?

  • @bumboozer It's a manual control for doing a fade/dissolve/mix (whatever the TV people call it in your part of the world) between shots. There'll be a button to do it also but some people like to do it manually to control the speed.

  • The reporter at 6:10 seemed rly nervous

  • i enjoy the australian news, things are very different in scotland,

if you wanna see the scottish news then watch this video /watch?v=QEkHDPCf854&feature=sh_e_top&list=SL

  • Please put more of these up...PLEASE!! They are great. Would love to see them work when it is just going crazy (or going wrong ;)

  • Interesting thanks for sharing

  • very interesting video

i want more behind the scenes videos!

  • in three two one...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz...zzz.zz...

  • does anyone know the job titles of the various people surrounding the director? if not specifically, what would be found in the control booth.

  • @ang7090

Woman on the left is the vision switcher/mixer (ch.10/7 have a director switcher, interesting that nine has an employed switcher for this, very simple program) woman on directors left (camera right) is the DA (directors assistant. deals with the time, and supers (superimposes) naming people etc...

Audio guy in separate room it looks like.

The producer is in the higher row, he/she decides what stories to run and when they run, also can change things at any time at his digression.

  • I've done a little bit of directing camera operators for a performance...I would love one day to do something as amazing as this...great job everyone :D

  • I really enjoyed this video, well done 9! Keep these videos coming! Would love to see a behind the scene of 9 Adelaide's news bulletin.

  • really cool, i love watching this - bit of a sneak peek into my furture career, you guys in the control room seriously do good work. well done.

  • This is really really cool!

  • This is another great video, perfect for training new television professionals. Great work channel 9, keep these fantastic videos coming, we are loving them.

  • Wow, very noisy in the control room. Hope all that noise doesnt go into Peters ears.

How do live subtitles work work? Do you give the transcripts that are time based to the company that flashes them on our tv screens?

Channel 10 news seems to be typing it live.

  • Is the first countdown from master control?

  • @deansproductions The countdown is from Presentation

  • @deansproductions clearly they call stuff different there... lol

  • Thanks, as a Media teacher, this is a valuable resource for my VCE classes!

  • whoa, that is cool, really cool

  • I just watched this in 1080p and didn't realise until now that Peter Overton's voiceover of the opening headlines is pre-recorded!

The other thing I never knew was that the whole thing was on 20-second delay. That must be a fairly recent innovation. I doubt most other newsrooms do this?

  • @whophd the news is not on a 20 sec delay, it is absolutely LIVE. The news actually starts 20 seconds before 6.00pm.

  • @9NEWSAUSTRALIA well there you go. The rivalry between 7 and 9 is alive and well :-)

  • Great video, very well put together seeing all angles of the broadcast.

  • By far, the best control room footage on the 'Tube.

  • THIS IS EXCELLENT !!!!!!!

  • awesome video guys!

  • awesome video!! Love behind the scene looks, where do the Ads get compiled and added to the feed? would love to see how thats done!
