I have done prompter work and such, but the split focus required to make sense of this must truly be a learned art. Youtube taught me something today!
Any chance we could get more of these. But maybe with the camera held by someone while they are on the floor watching the camera men. And is there a way for someone to come into the studio to see how things are done? Someone who is studying to become a cameraman?
@bumboozer It's a manual control for doing a fade/dissolve/mix (whatever the TV people call it in your part of the world) between shots. There'll be a button to do it also but some people like to do it manually to control the speed.
Woman on the left is the vision switcher/mixer (ch.10/7 have a director switcher, interesting that nine has an employed switcher for this, very simple program) woman on directors left (camera right) is the DA (directors assistant. deals with the time, and supers (superimposes) naming people etc...
Audio guy in separate room it looks like.
The producer is in the higher row, he/she decides what stories to run and when they run, also can change things at any time at his digression.
I've done a little bit of directing camera operators for a performance...I would love one day to do something as amazing as this...great job everyone :D
This is another great video, perfect for training new television professionals. Great work channel 9, keep these fantastic videos coming, we are loving them.
I just watched this in 1080p and didn't realise until now that Peter Overton's voiceover of the opening headlines is pre-recorded!
The other thing I never knew was that the whole thing was on 20-second delay. That must be a fairly recent innovation. I doubt most other newsrooms do this?
This is SO COOL!

In scotland, our Local station STV, their master control room is about the size of that control room...

does anyone know the job titles of the various people surrounding the director? if not specifically, what would be found in the control booth.

Wow, very noisy in the control room. Hope all that noise doesnt go into Peters ears.
How do live subtitles work work? Do you give the transcripts that are time based to the company that flashes them on our tv screens?
Channel 10 news seems to be typing it live.

@whophd the news is not on a 20 sec delay, it is absolutely LIVE. The news actually starts 20 seconds before 6.00pm.
