@DeathmaskDiseased actually this is a song originaly by a early black r&b group named the rivingtons, on which surfin bird was based off, the rivingtons also had a song called the bird's the word, both are on youtube.
@imhere8888 Yep, although The Trashmen used a combination of this song (original by The Rivingtons) and Bird's The Word (also The Rivingtons) to make Surfin' Bird. I personally reckon all 3 songs are ace - the Rivingtons' songs have more soul and The Trashmen ahve fun
this was on the muppet show, I guess? what was that little part at the end, it looked like eric estrada & a giant bird. Must've been the early 80s, maybe 83 or 84?
That's Daryl Somers and Ossie Ostrich from an Australian long-running (25 years?) variety show called Hey Hey It's Saturday. The voice-over was John Blackman. Coincidentally, they had a 10 year reunion show the week before this reply was posted. Yes, it look like the 80s.
Thats because the rivingtons wrote this song and another song called "The bird is the word" in the 60's before the trashmen and then they stole it. So this song was written before the trashmens song
its gotta be older than 80's you fool i dont listen to this music but if the bird is the word is a remix from this and that was 60's so i dunno wat u getting you info from
I don't know if I misexpressed myself, but what I meant is (knowing full well that Surfin' bird is 60's music) is that the style in which this whole clip is done (musical interpretation, clothing, synth sound) is as 80's as you can get...
l've been going to delltones concerts since 1984 every year sometimes 3 or 4 times per tour l;ve even travelled interstate from Melb just to see their shows,NEVIN was great but Danny has power do yourself a favour and see the guys live you'll be hooked.
Saw them in Perth Australia this year - brilliant show - took me back years. We had sore throats singing along to all the songs:-) Yep, we knew them all:-)
I have see these guys about 6 times. My family and i are really close friends to these guys. They are an amazing band and cant wait to tsee them again
Sensational oz rockers - great to see Nevin, Woody, Alan, Merv and the Bird! sound better now than ever! Tour next year celebrating 50 years in the industry will be massive
