Thanks,im getting the g400 im using mx518 now,its a good mouse but i want to be able to use 500 or 1000hz and to be able to use g400 which feels and looks more or less the same its a bonus
Helpful review - I bought a second MX518 (that's in storage), before they were discontinued. My first one is still in use (4-5 years old), and is still going strong - I recently disassembled & gave the shell interior a good cleaning with a toothbrush for the first time - the outside plastic edges of the two main buttons got a little sticky from accumulated filth, but now it works like new. The click switches in Logitech mice seem bombproof & last forever (unlike horrible Razer mice switches!).
prediction is removed finally in the new versions (with the pid #13333 or higher), so we almost have a perfect mouse... only if it would weight 20g less:)
Or why wont they just put the Sensor in the same spot as G5 to make it the best mouse in the world.... but meh i guess they don't want to make another G5 clone :/
Why the just wont put the G500 sensor into G400 and be done with it ... god i miss my G5 laser mouse /cry using G500 and the sensor is way to in front makes me crazy in RTS games using it for 4 months now and still can't get used to it.
@anxcss1 Hey there, I'd like to ask if you ever had a G5 in your hand? The blue one? Because that's the one I got as a replacement for MX518, and it doesn't hold nearly as good in hand as the MX518... I've never seen anyone mention it, though, so I figured it might be the rougher surface of the mouse.
So if I were to buy the G400, I wonder if it would hold as nicely as the MX, despite being matte? I don't have to option to test it, no local stores have it in stock sadly.
I had to turn back the G400, i thought it could replace my MX518(had 3 of them). The G400 side surface is fine, kinda like the same as the MX518, but the surface on top of the mouse that is also covering the buttons is way to slippery. I found my fingers was never "stable" on the left/right buttons using the G400, like when doing fast movements they slipped a little bit, not making my push the buttons at the same spot each time, might seem minor but it felt nowhere neare as firm in the hand
My g400,the right click presses down WAYYYY to easily. I can just be looking around the net and hit the right click button about 14 times it seems without any inention. Just way to easy to hit the button imho.
just got my g400 to replace my MX500 from DAYS ago. After nearly 10 years, the cord started to go out. glad they ditched the ugly textured look from the 518. feels the same, not too gaudy, and that's what I wanted.
the new g400 doesnt have prediction anymore some people say it starts with PID LZ13333 , i have a higher PID so it should be, tried it in paint and mine has no more prediction , the top surface is also better and doesnt wear off as the xai
Really great review man. I actually just got my Deathadder in the mail 3 days ago... and you are THE ONLY person who I have found on the internet who has posted the palm grip problem. I have the exact same grip problem as you do with it. Right now I'm trying to decide between this and the MS sidewinder x5. I'm leaning toward this though.
all my slippy feet on my mx-518 (the original version) and all the rubber surface, some places are completely smooth (not even the rough plastic surface that's under the rubber) :P its well used, but now im waiting for a G400, i tested the G500 in the shop but didn't like it
@OssastoriumDoDs I'd go for the G500, seeing as it's a more well-built mouse, but there are two things that turn me off. The weird scroll wheel which is impossible to press inwards, and the square shaped side buttons.
@iamsmert123 hmm... the middle mouse button is a must for me, because i usually talk with it on mumble or teamspeak. if you say it sucks, maybe I should get a razer deathadder?
Just got this and when put my finger on the left mouse button without clicking it makes a sound. It's like the plastic peice that you click on is loose and when you put your finger on it it gets pushed down onto the clicking mechanism beneeth. Only the left button makes this sound. Is it supposed to be like this or is it something wrong with my G400?
@UnBr34KaBl3 It´s caused by a small gap between the left click button and the mouse enclosure. I opened the mouse and glued a 0.5 mm piece of plastic on the plastic enclosure to eliminate the gap. It´s a slight defect that some people don´t care and it´s very persistent on fabrication. The 2 double click on left mouse button disappeared. You will need to destroy the mouse skates to access the screws. I bought a Corepad Skatez for G400 and it glides even better than the stock ones :)
Now that you mention this I realize that it is the same for my MX510 (have not even realized this in the 4 years that I have been using this mouse). So I would assume that this is clicking of the left mouse button is inherent to the design of the MX510 / G400. But it might also be because my mouse is already 4 years old.
Angle snapping was removed as of PID LZ13333. Lower PIDs have angle snapping.
In retail stores, you can tell the difference between the older and newer versions by the package's transparent closure labels; G400s without angle snapping have the Logitech logo printed on these labels. G400s with angle snapping have no printing on these labels.
Just wanted to throw that out 8) so in other words, the newer version of the g400 DOES NOT have angel snapping/prediction.
Interesting enough, I have a problem with my grip o DA as well, just like you described in this video. It was bad enough I ended up returning it. Good review.
Also how can you say the G400 has good skates? I'm comparing it to my deathadder right now. This g400 is new, I opened it from the package 10 minutes ago and the skates have noticeably more resistance than the deathadder.
I bought a G400 to replace my DA because the scroll wheel on my DA black edition was kinda hokey (maybe I got a bad one? the original DA had a great scroll wheel. perfect IMO, but this one is loose and shakey.) But G400 scroll wheel is lame too
a sad day has come - after 7 years of service my 510 has started failing and the pads are completely worn out. i'm so happy they kept this shape in production so this will replace it. i might just take the blue cover off mine and slap it on the g400 if doable.
Indeed man. Got a bit bigger hands than avarage peoples and i have to say, after 2 Deathadders (G3 and 3.5 Version) i thought, it's the best shape. But i never ryl liked to click them, it feels so spongy : / After i tried the MX518 of a friend of mine is just got fucked up of my deathadder :D Honestly, now i know why it's the populairst mouse of the world.
G400 is an amazing mouse. Fall for the gaming hype on other mice if you want, but the G400 is the best mouse you can ever buy. They could have put a snazzier paint job and charged 60-70 bucks on it and nobody would have complained. At 35 dollars on Amazon, it's fucking ridiculous not to get this mouse if you're looking for your first mouse, or a replacement. I wouldn't THROW AWAY your G500 or G5/7 for the G400, but I still think it's a better mouse.
Shit mouse, lasor is way to sensitive, The cursor wont move correctly if you play on a mousepad with simple textures and patterns on it, even wont work on some woodgrain desktops... waste of money waste of time..
The g400 is 28€ here in german amazon. Dunno if I should get this, the zowie ec2/1 or the death adder. Til today I always used a Logitech non gaming mouse on which i use "claw-grip" I think. I dont know if I would like the palm grip for league of legends. For CSS maybe...
@eyesz The mouse would work fine however you would damage the mouse feet (without a mouse pad). If you don't care much for mouse pads, go buy a cheap stealseries mouse pad for $5 just to protect your mouse feet.
Finally received the G400. Playing with it right now. Best mouse i ever work with. The Scrool wheel precision it´s superb, the middle click it´s soft and tight and requires only a good amount of pressure. The side buttons are well placed. The quality is very good. Amzing mouse for CAD, 3D and gaming. Money well spent!
Hi, nice review. Im thinking about this one, and i will use the scroll whell a lot on the G400. I bought a cheap M100 and i can say is complete crap (too light and the weel when pressed to make the click, moves to the left and gives the sence of two or three clicks, it feels that it´s not well constructed. On the other hand, i have an older OEM logitech that works perfectly. The scrool wheel is tightly in place, and only gives one click. How is the G400 in build quality and scrool weel click?
@subz3rakos300 MX518... Accelleration has been handicaped by Logitech in the new drivers.. also some tweakings have also been handicapped... so if you like the MX518 og are considdering the two - get the 518 !
@TheDivineCellphone "big screens" you mean "big resolutions" learn the difference. Acceleration doesnt bring precision, its a very inconsistent speed.
Awesome review(s). You seem to really know what you're talking about. Unfortunately what mouse you like is totally subjective to the user. I myself have tried about 10 different popular gaming mice and finally landed on the Logtiech G1. Have you tried or used it?
When I have dry hands G400 is _extremely_ hard to lift up because the plastic on the top is so slippery! It's quite ok though when my hand gets sweaty...
I prefer my Roccat Kone[+] over Logitech, but sensor isn't as good. I'm trying to get used to G400 for gaming.
I have same grip issue with DeathAdder like you. I can't understand how people use it...
Great review! How is it going overall after some months of usage now? I heard there's a problem with this mouse.. does the ripple or jitter behavior bothers you? Check google if you don't know about this: G400 major jitter issue.
@sameq1337 I'd pick Abyssus because it has not prediction/correction or wathever it's called. But the bad point is the lack of buttons, just 3 buttons? come on.. G400 has 8 buttons but it does have prediction. So according to this you can make a decision.
Great info. I wish the "unboxers" and so called reviewers were more like this guy We need real experience/information and testing, not the contents of the box and what is says on the side of the box. Its a pity you dont do this all the time.
YAY i bought it yesterday and i'm so happy with it!! =)
i'm much faster in LoL and i kick more ass =p i have a steelseries Qck Fnatic limited edition mousepad and it rocks =) get it if youre not convinced trust me its beast!!
GREAT review. This pretty much convinced me to try out the G400 (Pretty damn cheap, compared to other good gaming mice). I was worried about the level of prediction, but I can see now, that it probably won't be that big of a deal.
@luketiger87 You can't even give a reason as to why America's culture is "so FAIL" and have shit grammar, so until you can improve on that, go eat a cock.
If sensitivity higher than 400 dpi is fast for you, why not lower the pointer speed? That's the whole point in gaming mouse design!
For example setting your mouse at 400dpi with pointer speed of 5 (default) and at 500 dpi with pointer speed of 4, will result in same speed of cursor on screen, but the important difference is that with 500dpi setting, your CPU receives 25% more information than with 400 dpi setting.
In the gaming software, there's ''assign default'' and ''assign shift'' when you are setting the dpi level. I don't get the meaning of assign shift, anyone knows?
i purchased the G400 and after a week it died on me. so disappointing because it's a great mouse. it's almost identical to the MX518 in every way, only thing i like better is the soft matte finish as opposed to the 518's glossy finish that can get slimy and dirty from hand sweat.
The MX518/G400 and DA 3G/3.5G share a similar malfunction speed, I'm surprised you're even making the DA "spazz" at all. Try updating the firmware/making sure there isn't a big piece of lint in the sensor (however even then lint shouldn't effect it that much at all unless it's a copious amount).
you cannot make the DA skip at 1800 DPI with a proper surface lol. Lots of data to back this up. Well in theory yes, in practice, i'll believe it when I see it. you have to do a 180 1 deag over 100 cm in .5 seconds to do so and even then I don't think it would clip.
If you used a proper hard mat you would have better tools to judge the sensors, but cloth vs hardmat is of preference / tactile feedback over performance.
Thanks for the excellent review. I bought this mouse as a successor for my mx510.
I have a question however: I can adjust the DPI, as advertised, without the driver software. However the DPI reset button wont work without the driver; is this normal?

awesome review man, i want to buy the G400, but I am afraid i have small hands and it will not be comfortable. how big are your hands ? mine are from the bottom of my palm to top of my middle finger 18 cm / 7 inches .
You got clue. Have you tried Zowie ec1/ec2? Have tried every mouse worth trying for fps gaming (css), and I have never ever had a better mouse then the ec1. If you ever gonna buy a new mouse, go for zowie!
@kovacsDE "Drift control is a common prediction mechanism in mouse sensors that is designed to assist users in drawing straight lines vertically/horizontally in graphical and work applications. Such sensors predict when a straight line is being drawn and corrects any movement that deviates from that straight line, rather than follow the user’s exact movements. This means a downward swipe of 5 degrees can be corrected into a completely horizontal line, causing a gamer to miss his target."
3:00 because the deathadder is claw grip mouse and not palm like the mx518/g400, then, the deathadder is for ppl who use high sensitivity, while the mx518/g400 is great for low sens players.
What gives you better tracking for the G400, your QCK heavy or the Puretrak talent. Need to buy a new mousepad with my G400 as my mini is falling apart.
@memskez I prefer the G400 on the QcK Heavy. In this review, I say that the G400 feels faster than the 518. This actually changes once you break in the mouse feet. They have a slick coating that wears off pretty quick, and then they become slower than the 5 skate 518 and DA, due to the larger surface area of the mouse feet. That slowness combined with the slower Talent pad is just too slow for me. It almost felt like the mouse was sticking to the pad. I prefer the G400 + QcK heavy combo. Perfect
@anxcss1 I use mx518 (1800dpi) on my razer mantis speed. It's not as fast as goliathus speed for example, but gives best perfomance in my opinion. It's good for slower fps games such as CoD2. I use G500 for cod4, but for cod2, mx is way better :)
@skaterobban No its not, the main reason G400 is bettter(on the inside) is it dosnt have angle snaping like the MX518 does. The pooling rate is a minor thing, and the MX518 can do 500hz and even 1000hz, but you wont be able to tell the difference between 500 and 1000hz, i run my mx518 at 500hz now cause i cant tell the difference and cpu usage is lower with 500hz. The issue many has with the G400 vs 518 is that the G400 has a more slippery top surface, but its really a personal thing
@skaterobban pooling rate has NOTHING to do with how fast the mouse feels, it is not in any way related to sensitivity at all, the mouse can feel slighty smoother when you raise pooling rate from the standard 125hz(8ms)
@MissMan666 Lol since it polls twice as much as 500 it does feel faster... because it becomes more sensetive. ive been testing this for years you can not argue me about this. if you cant tell the difference then youre not a gamer.
@skaterobban im sure you know what you are talking about, but pool rate and sensitivity is two seperate things, higher pooling rate does not increase sensitivity in anyway, higher pooling rate makes the mose movement more smooth and it will feel more responsive, not more sensitive :)

G400 or Logitech MX518?
subz3rakos300 2 months ago
@subz3rakos300 MX518... Accelleration has been handicaped by Logitech in the new drivers.. also some tweakings have also been handicapped... so if you like the MX518 og are considdering the two - get the 518 !

@TheDivineCellphone Ty!!! I'm gonna take MX518 (i liked it more from the start) :P

This or Razer Abyssus?
sameq1337 3 months ago
@sameq1337 I'd pick Abyssus because it has not prediction/correction or wathever it's called. But the bad point is the lack of buttons, just 3 buttons? come on.. G400 has 8 buttons but it does have prediction. So according to this you can make a decision.
xalbert 3 months ago
lol Original vers. was MX500 & MX700 , not that MX518.... so dont LIE US !!! Using MX500 from the time it came out & it's still working well !!!

GREAT review. This pretty much convinced me to try out the G400 (Pretty damn cheap, compared to other good gaming mice). I was worried about the level of prediction, but I can see now, that it probably won't be that big of a deal.

You can fix the IME 3.0 Mousewheel, with some paper below the bridge, it will also make it stiffer and less loose
Im at 48cm/360 with mine, at 500 hz (its stuck on 510hz average though.) and i havent made it spaz out yet.
You also forgot about lift-off distance, which can be annoying as hell if youre on low sens

G400 or mx518? please?
SgtGhostY 5 months ago
@SgtGhostY I'm pretty sure that the G400 has better polling speed, therefore I'd go for that seeing as they are practically identical.

I just got this mouse. Very nice feel and has improved my aim dramatically. Thanks for the review, dude.
Understanding343 5 months ago
The MX518/G400 and DA 3G/3.5G share a similar malfunction speed, I'm surprised you're even making the DA "spazz" at all. Try updating the firmware/making sure there isn't a big piece of lint in the sensor (however even then lint shouldn't effect it that much at all unless it's a copious amount).
pvtsix 5 months ago
Lucky for me my warranty picked me up one of these for free since my poor MX518's right clicker gave out =(
Zebon 5 months ago
you cannot make the DA skip at 1800 DPI with a proper surface lol.

What did you mean with prediction? I don't understand this part :/
kovacsDE 7 months ago
@kovacsDE "Drift control is a common prediction mechanism in mouse sensors that is designed to assist users in drawing straight lines vertically/horizontally in graphical and work applications. Such sensors predict when a straight line is being drawn and corrects any movement that deviates from that straight line, rather than follow the user’s exact movements. This means a downward swipe of 5 degrees can be corrected into a completely horizontal line, causing a gamer to miss his target."
memskez 7 months ago
what do you mean with "i could it make it spazz pretty easily on a QCK heavy" ?
does the QCK heavy effect the spazzing?
Can you make a review on the QCK heavy?
Would you recommend buying the G400 + QCK heavy?
thank you =)
xXWhatUpDocXx 7 months ago
3:00 because the deathadder is claw grip mouse and not palm like the mx518/g400, then, the deathadder is for ppl who use high sensitivity, while the mx518/g400 is great for low sens players.
br0thax 7 months ago
What gives you better tracking for the G400, your QCK heavy or the Puretrak talent. Need to buy a new mousepad with my G400 as my mini is falling apart.
memskez 7 months ago 5
@memskez I prefer the G400 on the QcK Heavy. In this review, I say that the G400 feels faster than the 518. This actually changes once you break in the mouse feet. They have a slick coating that wears off pretty quick, and then they become slower than the 5 skate 518 and DA, due to the larger surface area of the mouse feet. That slowness combined with the slower Talent pad is just too slow for me. It almost felt like the mouse was sticking to the pad. I prefer the G400 + QcK heavy combo. Perfect
anxcss1 6 months ago 4
@anxcss1 I use mx518 (1800dpi) on my razer mantis speed. It's not as fast as goliathus speed for example, but gives best perfomance in my opinion. It's good for slower fps games such as CoD2. I use G500 for cod4, but for cod2, mx is way better :)
GMZOR 6 months ago
@anxcss1 The reason the g400 feels faster than the mx518 is because G400 comes with 1000hz stock and 518 is 125hz.
skaterobban 5 months ago
@skaterobban No its not, the main reason G400 is bettter(on the inside) is it dosnt have angle snaping like the MX518 does. The pooling rate is a minor thing, and the MX518 can do 500hz and even 1000hz, but you wont be able to tell the difference between 500 and 1000hz, i run my mx518 at 500hz now cause i cant tell the difference and cpu usage is lower with 500hz. The issue many has with the G400 vs 518 is that the G400 has a more slippery top surface, but its really a personal thing
MissMan666 1 week ago
@skaterobban pooling rate has NOTHING to do with how fast the mouse feels, it is not in any way related to sensitivity at all, the mouse can feel slighty smoother when you raise pooling rate from the standard 125hz(8ms)
MissMan666 1 week ago
@MissMan666 Lol since it polls twice as much as 500 it does feel faster... because it becomes more sensetive. ive been testing this for years you can not argue me about this. if you cant tell the difference then youre not a gamer.
skaterobban 1 week ago
@skaterobban im sure you know what you are talking about, but pool rate and sensitivity is two seperate things, higher pooling rate does not increase sensitivity in anyway, higher pooling rate makes the mose movement more smooth and it will feel more responsive, not more sensitive :)
MissMan666 1 week ago
