@TksTactics NO, they where different uniforms depending on the day/weather/time of year/and what regiment they are in. They still wear this uniform occasionally, there are like over 5 different uniforms each soldier has

It's a good friend of mine who is working as a guard at the moment who told me (he's also served in afghanistan) But he told me that in March/April they get thinner jackets so they don't overheat in the sun. Also, it depends on their regements. It's very complicated. But the bearskin hats and red suits you're talking about are worn very often.

@TksTactics If caught, they would definetly be disciplined at the least. That s why I think it is out of order when people try and make a fool out of them so they laugh. Becuase they could end up costing them their jobs. My friend told me that in summer he get really tired having to stand there for 2 hours in the sun in his heavy uniform and bearskin hat, carying a massive rifle. So he told me a trick the guards know of loosening the rifle a bit and holding it further behind his arm so it won't

One day in August when they where all marching together (outside windsor castle) one of the guys marching with him ended up fainting because it was over 30 degrees outside and they where wearing their warm uniforms. And they had been up very early. The bizarre thing is, they are told that if they will faint, they are not allowed to hold their hands

@TksTactics out to break their fall, because it would be seen as disturbing the march. So this guy who fainted didn't try and get away to rest becuase he was scared of losing his job, so he apparently bust his face open when he dropped to the floor. The rest of them had to keep on marching.

Believe me when I say this, as an Englishman who knows only too well how often the Royal Guards based at the Royal Palaces in London are subjected to all kinds of behaviour problems posed by tourists, especially foreign tourists, while they are on guard duty...funny as well as extremely annoying & irritating. At the same time the guards have a very hard time trying to remain fully composed, trying to stop themselves laughing out loud or landing a great whack on a butt with a size 12 boot.

@Steven6501 L85A2 fires the Nato 5.56mm Round and has been proven to be more reliable and accurate then a standard Issue M16a2. Also the fact they have been in service for a small amount of time comapred to the M16 sums it up really.

@Kdanc86 Nope, Only One Magazine Each and each hold one Full Metal Jacket bullet, Because the guards are trained soldiers who regulary take it in turns guarding the palace with other regiments of the royal guard who go to afghanistan, and because any one physically, medically fit and has no criminal record can join, if a terroist got in and had a mag of 30 all hell would break loose =) Correct me if im wrong anyone :)

@doubleestark Due to cuts in the British armed forces the Guard battalions have been cut from 8 to 4, therefore one of the 3 battalions of the Queen's Guard are from a British line infantry battalion. These soldier's are either the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment (29th/45th Foot) or the 2nd Battalion, Mercian Regiment (Worcesters and Foresters) who were stationed in London between 2005 and 2008.
