@YellowHand2003 Folks, this song was written in 1928...anyone can do it and to say someone stole or didnt need to do it just...well, stupid. No one is "stealing" anything (spotlight, glory etc)...its a song my multitudes of people and who cares anyway. Dan and Alison do great versions of the song...just enjoy it and shut up
who is the manger for this band ? someone needs to put a foot in his or her ass. there is no reason this talented band isnt making top 10 hits. how many groups have this kind of talent , seriously ?
@morgankitty1 Did it ever occur to you that maybe they're content with their already loyal fan base? Bands like this are better staying the way they are. With the influence of some scumbag greedy ass producer they're sure to suffer. I love em just the way they are.
why does allison feel the need to steal the spot light from dan when clearly she posted this when she saw that dan had hit it big and had gotten alot of hits on you tube !and now she wants to steal the credit shame on you alison go make your own hit ! and stop riding his coat tails try to be a winner not a video thief for your own gain imo you are a looser and just cus you can play a good fiddle doesnt meen your a good musition !
@kenstech whatever yea shes a big super star ooooohhhh ! ask any one out here in so cal if they have ever heard of her! are you retarded ? but lay the same? on them about the song and they will say yea i know that song from the movie and when this song was first posted it was under dans name! and now its under alisons ! do the math you fuckin moron pussy comi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dan is a member of Union Station, as in, Alison Krauss and Union Station. He has been a member of HER band since 1994. Alison asked Dan to join Union Station after Tim Stafford left.
Was this from the "Fire on the Mountain" concert tour? Saw it in Austin, and sooo many great bands/singers. I wish I could find the whole show somewhere.
@Holinyx2003 this is NOT a Bob Dylan song! He recorded a version of it, but this is an old American Traditional song going back way before Bob Zimmerman was born!
Folks - you are listening to one of the best songs of all time performed by some of the best musicians to ever walk on this planet. The movie was great too.
just seen them in concert in Dublin Ireland ..to say they were good is a gross understatement....they were simply fantastic Alison is in a league totally of her own ..the band were incredibly good ..they are true to their Bluegrass roots ,true to themselves and a total credit to the United States of America...I attended this concert with my 12 yr old daughter ,and we are both still on a high ..cant praise this concert enough ..only to hope that they come back to these shores very very soon
Man this is the best version I've heard of this song. Earl Scruggs is just about the only one who can top a performance like this! Thank you for posting.
In a way, I love that "O brother where art thou" exposed the masses to the wonder of bluegrass music. In another way, I am frustrated because there is so much musicality here and yet the majority of the comments reference a movie.
" That's Fine", " That's Fine ". " I, Pappy O'Daniels", Governor of the great State of Mississippi, due here by pardon The Soggy Bottom Boys. And will make them my braintrust. " Whats that mean Everrett " ? We'll kinda of be like the brains behind the throne so to speak. Oh! One of the funniest lines in the movie.
Great version. Their's is my fave-especially one I saw them do on Austin City Limits. But let's give Allison some props for some great bluesy fiddling with some great little fills & dead-PERFECT accents!
Fantastic stuff, thanks for sharing Brother...Peace!
@NonStopRocker No Timmy..I like real movies that have deep meaning..not light fluff where they turn you into a toad....real movies...Scorcese, Kubrick, Coppolla. This was a script we didnt NEED. The soundtrack is a different story.
@DavelovesRealMusic I don't know... I wouldn't reeeaaally say it was "light fluff seeing" as it was based on Homer's Odyssey; a piece of literary genius which has stood the test of thousands of years, from way before the concept of electricity was even so much as on the door step, let alone film.
@DavelovesRealMusic Have you read Homer's Odyssey? It is literary masterpiece. The Coen Brother's, basing a movie on Homer's Odyessy, prove the test of Classic. A Classic written in the 8th century proves the test of time and literary genius of Homer and of the Coen Brothers. If you went to a government high school ..... never mind.
@jhofmann33 I DID go to a free government High school..and Homer's Odyssey was required reading..but back whe nI was about 7...mky memories of age 7...are blurry. I am not disputing the great writing of Homer. I only point out the soundtrack is far superior to the film, in my opinion. I found it too flip, too absurd. Clooney and goodman are great actors...stil lthought script was too whimsical. Different strokes...
@DavelovesRealMusic There is no free government high school. Ask your parents. The Coen Bros are dry humor. An age and experience acquired taste. Yes, the soundtrack is great, and so is the movie's plot.
@DavelovesRealMusic Your profile does not state your age. My guess is your are younger than age 25 and have no experience to base you statements upon. Live, love, learn, laugh .... then comment.
@DavelovesRealMusic Funny when people think that movies that don't appeal to them should not have been made. Talk about narrow minded. "This was a script we didnt NEED" Who is "we?"
I really like Ron Block on banjo. There are faster players, but he has such a full, meaty tone. And Jerry Douglas just rips the dobro always.
