@GAG4IT i have the 808's pretty fantastc and well worth the money, a great way to control in's and out's is to have a good interface on your computer or a audio mixer, i have a behringer euro rack, perfect combination then.
@GAG4IT yeah for sure, i bought mine from b-stock items uk, i got them for i think £125 each! special offer as were ex display but would pay the full price any day!
Hi fi speakers made by EPI (specially the model 70) and any of the B&W 600 and CM series make good monitors . EPI has been out of business for 10 years but if you find a set grab them!
Nice one man, but if the crossover's before the 2 separate amps (one for woofer, one for tweeter) Then they're actually active, just sayin =] and 0dB is actually known as unity gain, and I learned to actually DJ pretty much exclusively from you, so don't take it as an insult, I work in a studio =]
He's right about the fact that those series speakers do have two amplifiers in them, but not one for the "speaker" and one for the tweeter, what he doesn't mention is that the speakers have a subwoofer that comes with them, and that second amplifier is for it. I have watched his videos for a long time and loved all of them so don't think that I'm rashing on him for this one little mistake. Good job!
OK...bedroom 555. Not going to safely produce the the booming lows needed for rap and hip hop for under 300. I know the requirements and you are not going to get by that cheaply. Save a few Euro's then check with the fine folks at Parts Express. They offer pro power amps x-overs, raw drivers and raw subs. Everything you can imagine in DIY loudspeaker building. Their incredible speaker tech. crew will help you achieve your goals affordably, DIY is the answer for young DJ's on a budget.
This is a loud combo for pop and rock. To thump the bottom in a small room ...should be ok for these styles... if you are into rap or anything with an artificially enhanced bottom... I would suggest a long throw design in a 15" or a 12" in a tuned enclosier with twice the power.
I'm planning on getting a pair of the M 505's and a M10s, im a bedroom Dj do you think that would be loud enough, and does anyone know what the 505 and the 10s are like together, is the bass any good???
Another quick tip as I have some time this morning. Acoustically treat your room with foam tiles. The idea is to damp most of the base and trap for sympathetic echo problems. Put alot of furnature behind your listening position to trap more lows. Midrange trapping tiles directly behind your monitors and on the ceiling. Carpet on the floor. A top tip is to keep your monitors at ear level approx. 4 ft. apart in a triangular config. pointing to the back of your head at more than an armslength away.
In conclusion there is a tn of hype across the board for $200 sets to $10,000 sets in terms of reference to frequency. This set is targeted at the home studio as a reference system....ooops don't believe it. Save up and buy a set of Genelics if prestige and accuracy are your goal. Or take it form a pro that has convinced other pros and buy the amped Behringers...your mixes will love you for it. And no I don't have any affiliation with Behringer I just speak the truth...take or leave it. Thanks
..enlightening...most KRK monitors are worse than this. The Mackies are a wee bit better in terms of flattness but still down in the mids....and the $1000 Genelics are the flattest set I've tested in this range. Get this one folks....some of the most accurate monitors from a tested reference analysis are the Behringer B2031a, paired with the matching sub the response is quite amazing and nearly as flat as monitors 5 times their price...I don't see how you can go wrong in a home studio with em..
In a controlled environment the ikey near field array does not yeild a flat enough response to use as a reference monitoring system for critical tracking and mixdown. These speakers are no doubt hot for dj's doing small parties ect..as they pack alot of punch for the dollar. As a monitor in the studio...look out! Your mixes will end up light in the upper frequencies light in the mids and mud in the lows. I've tested several nearfield reference sets for flat below $2000 and the results can be....
On the sub, the x-over setting at 70hz worked best. The m505's set at -2db. Here in a nutshell were the results in a 10 band freq. sweep...31hz,-5dbr...60hz,+3dbr....140hz,-7dbr...500hz,-2dbr...1khz,+2dbr...2.2khz,+5dbr...4khz,+1dbr...8khz,+5dbr...10khz,+4dbr...16khz-3dbr. From this sweep you can see these monitors are not even remotely close to reference flat in a room that is not symathetic to first or second order echoes. What does this all mean tho the project studio user..read on
you'll have to read these bottoms up because thats the order they post. Anyway the monitors appeared to bright in the high frequecy range right out of the box. My room is tuned accousically to as close to flat in a nearfield array as possible..so as a reference check I whipped out the real time analyser and calibrated mic. Set up test tones white noise, pink ect.. Without getting too deep here...The the best response I could get from the onboard cabinet controls are as follows....
Since there seem to be no known reviews out there for ikey monitors for use in the recording studio as an all round reference system here's my take on them. I have 27 years in as a recording engineer, so listen up...OK? I have the whole set with the m505's including the subwoofer. I've compared them with several other monitors in their class and they do not fair well with some others in the same price range. ikey's published frequency sweep specs. are inaccurate. Continue to next comment ...
I got these a while now and am using XLR jacks to hook em up to adjm800, but now i wanna hook em direct to my sound card,so i went down to radio shack an got 2 xlr plugs,a small plastic box,a3.5 stereo jack and a bit of cable,so anyway i soldered it al together and i can only sound from both speakers when the balance is the middle or right ,,if its left there both off does any one know how a can fix this?
what a fucking 30 minute midnite bust commercial!!!... the woofer doesn't even move a bit at 4:10"... this faggot gets paid to do this!!!! I almost got busted on getting these for a serious recording studio monitors!!!!
The supposedly 90 watts output of this speaker doesn't match the consumption wattage.
Based on the 75 watt consumption at the power cord and this being a class D amp the output wattage should be about 30 w/ch multiplying efficiency by 80% which is still not bad for monitors if the amp is built right.
Great advice thank you, i'm just starting to make my own recording studio, well trying to anyhow..lol
And i'm looking into buying some descent studio monitors cause at the moment i've only got crappy hi-fi speakers and it takes away from the great vocal sound quality. Thanks for the tips :-)
the ikeys are great in the mid ranges, but seriously lacking in the low range (below 40htz). I baught the rokits over them because they have a front firing bass port. I would go with the krk's too
oh well, for a 6 inch sub i didnt expect to get much below that frequency. I picked these up with the subs and while i could have done better for more money i could have also done way worse for more money lol
Can you recommend me some speakers that have inbuilt amplifiers? i always wated to get something from jbl..dont know if they have speakers that have inbuilt amps..
i will put up a video when i get a camera but when you order the 808`s your gonna think that you ordered a pair of SUBWOFFERS they dont call then 808`s for nothing LOL
Great little review. I was hoping more people would be reviewing the ikey studio monitors unfortunately not too many people have given them a chance. I'll definitely get some of these as a B set for my studio here.Granted that I am hearing the speakers through the mic and then through my own speakers. despite all that ... it sounds pretty clear i can only imagine them sounding so much better in real life.
We have two pairs of 808's and one pair of 606's in our studios..
Fantastic bass response. I've mixed 2 number 1 hit singles on them. I recommend em to anyone looking for a reliable, affordable powered studio monitor system.
I love your videos, this is also awesome. Anyway, loose the idea of "perfectly flat signal" .. :) There is nothing like that. It is better than a disco smile but not flat!
-GREAT first set of monitors, great size and tone! -You do not need the m808s for more bass, the m606s offer a great warm tone for real -I compose and write music from home and I write orchestral, to dance, to ambient and the speakers are really very well rounded.
I didn't find any reviews anywhere for these so, that is my review, these are not hip hop or dance only monitors (bass heavy),they are warm and look great and are at a very
can we sing through these speakers? i have a piano and want to sing along with it. but i dont know which speakers would give the best sound quality. can u please give some advices ?
Never mind! I just bought the iKey 606 monitors and they realy kick ass! I just don't know what to say, i am in awe... My first set of real monitors and i have tears in my eyes... Ok, one more time: they kick ass!
thank you for this video i'm actually getting a pair of the M808 for 150.00 on Friday can't wait.i was looking for some good active monitors so i got so lucky to have found the M808 for a great price on the net.the M808 is 125watt monitor.
yeah,id like to know also. some guy told me that you can use the plug just above the xlr connection.get a cable that is Y shaped with a headphone jack at one end and a type of male jack on the other end to plug into the connection just above the xlr,but i dont think the sound would be as good as xlr.but i wouldnt know lol.
:-) nice, but soundchecks in a video? hmmm, let me think about it: We have a Speaker, a microphone, a video compression, my amplifier and my speakers. So... Do i check my speakers that i already known or did i check the ones you want to show us? *smile*
Anyway, nice job Jonathan! But Speakers... you can not describe.. you'll have to hear them. The best thing you can ask for if to test them in different rooms. Good shops will do this for you!
Nice Jonathon but not really true in some aspects. These aren't true studio monitors. These will never give you the true flat response you are looking for in production. Good for hooking your turntables up to but certainly not for real production purposes. You'll be much better off getting some KRK's Mackies Genelecs Alesis etc etc. In the same price range Behringer, M-audio or Alesis should be looked at. Nice vid though!
would u mind explaining then. I really cant see or hear a substantial diff between these and some KRK rokits...for someone getting their foot in the door i dont see a problem with these man. All this gear snobbery has to stop...everyone cant afford what they really want.
If you can't hear it, then it's fine (like you said) for you right? Many factors come into play. For DJing it'll be power, durability etc. For production/engineering they would fall short. Not quite reveeling enough for those tasks. You can't mix what you can't hear as they say. It's not snobbery either but I must admit I'm coming from a different perspective. I engineer professionally so what I need is much different than just sound. No snobbery here. You like them? You buy them ;)
As I said, I'm looking at these things from a working professional standpoint. I do have KRK's in my home setup which is just fine for making some tunes. However, I would never use them in the big studio as they do not offer what I need. I wouldn't call them studio monitors either, that's just marketing bs. I hope you like your set.
Okay, i undersrand you now that you say that. Im talkin more project studio on a budget. I'd never attempt to set a final mix on these or any other budget monitor for that matter, but for the myspace generation and demos I can work with it. Thanks for having an intelligent converstaion. Most people get mad too easily on here.
Aye! HiFi-speaker are made to sound as goos as possible and nearfield and other studio monitors are made to sound as "real" as possible. Well done there Johnathan.
Yo, I got a BCD3000 about 4 weeks ago.. had vinyl turntables before so not a complete beginner. have used CDJ's and to be honest I find the behringer to feel crappy and plasticcy and the right jog wheel is already fucked. all I can afford tho. how u find it?
might get a set of them because if you watch my new mixer video my speaker are not very good quility wll not very loud quility when you turn it up loud it just vibrated and nothing happens and another thing is that a snooker table behind you lol you must have a bit of space and must have the money practice and enjoy!!!
dont supose you could or will be doing a review on the iKEY Audio M808 V2 8" Monitors?

I have a pair of the Alesis M1 Active monitors, and there really powerful when you play them in a small room (bedroom etc)
If your starting out DJing and want some speakers buy monitors!
tGJimo 4 years ago
might get a set of them because if you watch my new mixer video my speaker are not very good quility wll not very loud quility when you turn it up loud it just vibrated and nothing happens and another thing is that a snooker table behind you lol you must have a bit of space and must have the money practice and enjoy!!!
