i hate the silent hunter series it is just to hard i didn't like SH3 because i didn't even know what to do its also impossible for a newbie to play the tutorial is rubbish in Sh3 its a bit better in SH4 i temporarily liked SH4 i was on a good luck streak and sank 5 merchant ships with flak guns i'm rubbish at being stealthy and i can't aim torpeadoes and most of the time they bounce off i managed one torpeado kill while surfaced i just fired a sea of torpedoes and then in the next mission i died

i never used stealth i went in with guns or gun blazing i loved watching them explode the i could get them so easily it took several shots but most of the time the ships i were sinking were composite merchants which were slow and hopeless

To get German voices go to where you have the game installed at. For me its

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\s­ilent hunter 5.

Then go to: \data\LngGameData\Voices\Germa­n\Data\Sound\Speech

copy and paste folders to:

\data\Sound\Speech

Overwrite everything.

Also in order for it to work properly cannot load a saved game. You have to start over.

Really wish they had an option for German voices in the game.

hmm till the modders have dealt with the bugs and ubisoft have removed that ridiculous DRM I think I shall stick to SH3 and SH4, true classics of the genre

@GamingLeeLee i agree, i play sh4. It was pretty buggy to start out but now with all the patches I absolutly love it. The U-boat expansion is pretty sick too.

also i just want to add. ive never really seen a U-boat in action. how many torps does it take on average to down a merchant, and the same for a warship. i.e. carrier. i just end up having to shoot like 6. even after pre heating and almost maxxed out torp crew. morale is +5 for the torpedoman. anyone got any thoughts on this. ?

I just cant seem to sink them. they just sit there with whatever life is left on them. like 5% left. why no sinking with 6 20ft holes.

Usually when you hit them, I have had a similar problem, and all it really takes is timing, if you can't do a good decent spread, and have them hit all over, the ship will sink, I have both SH 3 and 4 and in the 3rd one, I had to sink a Battlship(British mind you, very powerful, and big) I fired 4 trops at it, sank within a few minutes

I think you should read "The Boat" by Lothar g. Buchheim. It´s i guess what you call "pathetic" but so far the best you can get.

WWII merchant ships were carrying a wide variety of cargoes. For example, if it's carrying diesel oil then you can torpedo it several times; but opening the hull to sea (which is what you're doing; makes no difference because the fuel tanks are full of liquid anyway. Torpedo a ship loaded with machine parts and other non combustible cargo will start flooding but can take hours or even days to sink. Subs even surfaced and gunned the waterline to save torpedoes. It depends where you hit them too.

@AKAHowitzer you need to start reading the ID for each ship and look at the draft of the ship if the draft of a ship is 3 meters then put your torpedo to be under the ship about 4 meters deep when the torpedo goes under the ship the force of the explosion will brake her back and thats how you get one torpedo kill.

I have never played any of the SH games, but when I saw gameplay of SH5 a while ago, I was like "Holy Shit!" Anyway, Some people say getting SH5 just isn't worth it. I'm trying to decide between getting SH4 and the UBoat expansion, or getting SH5. Which should I get?

SH 3 is wicked, but too old skool if you aint never played any of them. get SH4 with the U-Boat exp. i got it and its much better than SH3 vanilla.

GWX for SH3 is awesome too, but as i say. its old skool.

SH4 has a great campaing & gameplay.

playing SH5 for the dynamic campaign, but other than that. ITS SHIT. sorry UBi.

Hate this limited style of play. also been dumbed down for the majority. SH3, 4 are realtime sims. awesome fun. and awesome strategic play.

Great graphics but a little upset because they could have completely up'ed the realism on sinking ships. Breaking apart, compartmental flooding, vehicles that fall off while listing, the works. What I do see is bouncing masts like the last one. Always hated how everything bounced like a basketball off the ships. Masts bend, crumble, fall over etc. Looks the same with a face lift is all.

@Drednots i think that ship sinking is pretty good because when i use my 88 i see really nice holes in the ships and i can see trough them! and when you shoot on the overstructures all is setted on fire! it's pretty awesome!

Well... something can be improved... like the enemy ships crew that don't do nothing but keep walking like nothing happened on the bridges even when you stuffed their boat whit a torpedo or you discharged all your cannon ammo on it!

I could live with the 1943 ending, and the one highly detailed sub if we get expansions over time which end proper depth and challenge to the post 1943 era along with new subs, but the DRM I am not so sure about. Will the Steam edition (which I presume will be coming out) also require logging onto Ubisoft?

IF there is a Steam Version, mostly yes, since DRM would be compatible to Steam (unlike an old DVD protection ;) ). Or in other words, guess, why they made a Internet only based "protection" uhm "Service" (don't want to upset ubisoft :P)

Looks great, but smells more like a scriptfest than a dynamic campaign. And since this 'dynamic' campaign, I call it the story, ends in 1943, leaving out 1944 and 1945, is an absolute shock. I bet we'll be attacking Malta in any 'dynamic campaign'. Shame on you Ubi.

It does look great...but in the interview at Subsim, the devs say the game ends in May of '43...kind of a bummer if you ask me. I think SH5 will be like all the rest of the titles in this series: get a few necessary patches and then left for dead, leaving everything we actually want in the game out and up to the modding community.

It sure looks great! But I really think that the Attackscreen (Periscope view) is absolutely disappointing and a laugh! All those black spaces and funny buttons and that crewman's pic IN the periscope itself lol - they really could take the older one from SH 3 than this - that looked a hundred times better imo! But the water for ex. is awesome... Let's hope the game can and will be modded! And it will need a lot of gooood Hardware! ;-(
