i got lice in my dreads a few years back. it was pretty bad and i did try lots of ways to get rid of them and they still managed to live through several lice shampoos. but it was really strange because i was pregnant at the time, i gave birth 8 weeks early but for some really weird reason they just dissapeard when i was in hospital. i had tryed for so long n nothing then a week in hospital and they just died.. i really have no idea how it happended..
Thats soo funny..about 3-4 dayz after i did my dreads i thought...wait what if i get lice..reason being my lil girl(in pre school!)brought home headlice twice last year so..very cool I already have tea tree oil from doing my research last year.So thanx;)
can you put the teatree on now and then just as a precausion? I live in Hawaii and kids are always getting them, I used to have my grandkids living with me but not anymore.
Dreads CAN get lice. You can get rid of lice. Lice are attracted to clean hair because without your natural oil they can 'glue' themselves on to your hair stronger while nesting. Clean hair makes it easier for lice to breed. I have had lice with my dreadlocks. I did NOT shave them. Place mayonnaise on your hair and cover it think. Place a shower cap over it to not make a mess. Wait 4 hours. Wash out. Rinse hair with Apple Cider Vinegar to kill unhatched eggs.
@JRannow mayo? interesting, is it to suffocate them or do they hate it? lol i know i dont like it on sandwiches:) The acv rinses are great for your dreadlocks! thanks for posting your method as well :) !!!!
@princenoobsauce The Mayo suffocates them and the Apple Cider Vinegar breaks down the membrane holding the unhatched lice. And another cool part of the mayo treatment, all the fat in the mayo (egg whites) is GREAT for your hair. I always heard my mother saying for rich looking hair do that. I did it and it looked soooo nice! It was like I had conditioned it a billion times, but without the negative fallout that you get with using greasy conditioners. Anyone please let me know how it worked
could you do rosemary tea tree rinses ? to use a as repellant like if im around a whole bunch of kids and they like to touch my hair lol im it jus worries me sumtimes :))
@electlion yes you sure can, that s what the next part will be, but im sure you can figure it out. i want to do it when its warm outside cause my bathroom is super tiny. its really easy to do. Yes little kids are the way i got them. :)
@TeaMaster1978 yep its a natural bug repellent too! I dont recommend doing this unless you have a visible chance of infection. Ill do the regular wash vid that will repel, and not be so evil strong as soon as i get around to it. The winter months keep them less active anyway.
@hippiejew no shampoo, but right now im using trader joes tea tree bar soap. I also like bronners bars, and a couple others. If i use shampoo on them i would be broke!
@princenoobsauce yeah I usually use bar soap too... thats what I mean when I say shampoo- stuff you use to clean your dreads :P I love love love the trader joes tea tree bar soap! HAHA And I had no idea bronners came in bar form. I was just asking what you use since you said you never have problems with itchies or dandruff.
@hippiejew it might have to do with my skin type(kinda oily). There are some good charcoal rinses out there if anyone develops a problem. the tea oil can help out the scalp too. Actually thats what its meant for on the bottle. Skin scalp and fingernails :).
Did you say you were going to put a way to prevent them in part 2?
And if it ever got past the starting stage couldn't you like just sit in a pool soaking your hair for like as long as you possibly could and eventually drown them?
@AgentOfDoubt it works for you too big daddy-o. actually with your hair type you could have big dreadlocks. yes it is very horrible, I almost flipped out over it.
@geragna Maybe. The stronger the concentration of tea oil, the more defense. You can use the Dr.'s soap as one of the ingredients to the wash in part 2.

use rubbing alcohol, it wont bleach your hair. then put a bag over your hair so they die, do this for about 4 days and you should be cured

@chyeah115 yes in part 2. Well maybe if it had alot of chlorine in it. The knits whichare the smallest form are encased and can survive under water.

If you already use Dr. Bronner's tea tree bar soap for your hair, do you think that that will help prevent them also?
