no surprise the perfect orb is the most resistant form nature has to offer, thats why early submarines where round and it's also the reason why you need a steamroller to brake a bowlingball. it is also safe to say, the smaller the ball, the herder it is to break.

But what about firing smaller marbles?

I'm sure they would have better penetration than the large balls, not as much as the steel or led balls probably, but still, I think smaller types of ammunition are more effective against soft targets like the gelatine or flesh (I'm not advising using them on anything living).

Those are some high-quality marbles. If you want them to smash get the ones with visible imperfections, cracks, form lines and dust coating. I get mine for 2 euro and they smash every time.

Is there any danger of hitting your hand with the ammo when firing with this type of "low" slingshot? Seems dangerously close :-)

Also, you mention the use of the slingshot as a sort of striking weapon with the pointy part; have you tried to make a sort of "brass knuckles" sort of design? That would really compliment the pointy part as a striking weapon.

in the philippines we use marbles .maybe about two centimeters in diameter .and it works well .our rubber here for the slingshot is way different .it looks like a belt .

I guessed that it would penetrate the gel, because glass is very hard and dangerous as a projectile. IT's why most airsoft grounds ban the use of glass bb's. you can seriously hurt people with it.

I remember using a marble,when I shot a slingshot in self defense at a tall guy going after my brother & trying to enter my house I nailed him right in the adams apple,the skin broke a little so their was a little blood. His adams apple was black and blue,he was winded but not dead & the slingshot I used was a marksman strapless slingshot. I guess if had that steel slingshot,that guy probably would of been dead!

here's a neat trick. heat the marble up on the stove and drop them into a glass of cold water. they will shatter internally but the outer layer will remain intact. you now have exploding shrapnel ammo. probably won't penetrate at all, but its fun to shoot as long as you don't mind bits of sharp glass all over the target area.

@JoergSprave about hitting a hard service i shot a metal ball at a marble and it shattered it. i was using a barnet black widow and since I'm only 12 i could not even fully draw it so is it a small object hitting the marble but the marble was in my pocket for about 2 hours so was it the heat change that weakened the marble

@valio14 Yes, I have shot nuts. They work, especially the big ones. Long range accuracy suffers, up to 20 yards no problem.

Interesting story about the golf ball-

My father was golfing a few years ago and hit a stray ball into the desert. He went and found it and tried to hit it so he didn't get the "ball drop" penalty of a stroke.

Well after hitting it (send the ball flying at about 130mph or so) it instantly richocheted off a nearby rock and flew back and struck him in the chest.

He said he felt as if he had been shot...... those things HURT
