I just finnished a new biography on H.S.T. called "outlaw journalist". Excellent. He was fired from his first job at Time magazine because "His excentricities far out-wieghed his talent". Hilarious.

He was also a sports journalist, who wrote a great column on Superbowl XXXVIII condemning Bush for saying he went to sleep before half-time, before Janet Jackson flashed her nipples/tits to the nation.
Read some of his material, he wrote a lot for Rolling Stone and he covered a few major political capaigns that were very insightful, and REAL. Check out his writings, dont judge.

The Proud Highway is an amazing book. I am currently reading it and if you really wanna learn about HST you will read that book and get a true insight about him rather then from other people and their perspectives.

What the hell is a twisted gourd? Thompson was once arrested for shooting rats (with a pistol) at the San Juan garbage dump. He says he was a hillbilly, a lazy person basically. He was also a sports journalist, who wrote a great column on Superbowl XXXVIII condemning Bush for saying he went to sleep before half-time, before Janet Jackson flashed her nipples/tits to the nation.

Regardless of opinions of anyone, I think when any resorts to name calling when they are expounding on their take of someone elses character, abilities or relevance etc. they lose their own credibility. He joined the air force because he worked as an auto parts deliver and ripped a huge hole in the side of his bosses new truck, so he decided to avoid his boss and sign up for the draft but the draft office was closed but next door was the air force recruiting office. he wanted to be a pilot. its all in kingdom of fear you should read it, its a good book.

Wonderful stuff taken out of Proud Highway (which demonstrates far more talent in creative swearing than some people here, if I may...).
