Stereo Microphones connected to stereo quality earphones. If you were silent, you'd hear movement from 30 yards away in complete darkness in sand.
Built in thermal imaging and IR optics.
The suit would hide you from both of these.
Built in proximity microwave detection. You could detect somebody through walls even!
Just with that, sneaking up would be impossible.

Despite China's growth, the real indicator of wealth is GDP per capita. Currently, the US has a military roughly 5x more powerful than China's and it all lies in our tech. I'm not entirely sure your opinion about self worth is right either; most of the population makes 1/2 as much as average US citizens and lives at our poverty line.

Though I don't see how you can measure military strength in terms of pure numbers - I'm speaking specifically about assigning some sort of numerical value to "tech" and the advantage it conveys. Besides which, Chinese military technology isn't what it was during the Cold War - they've made an impressive effort toward modernizing and not relying solely on Soviet hand-me-downs. It's the kind of thing that can't be known until the two powers actually decide to slug it out.
