Just saw this movie this morning on IFC and it has to be one of my top though it should have ended differently . Also I want to add what others have said she is beyond beautiful and played the part excellent . The New World check it out , Great movie
Kind grosses me out when they kissed and he was touching her. Thank goodness this kinda stuff is illegal now. I can't imagine what was going through a man's mind back then to be sexually atttracted to a child. Back then it was a man being a man, but now we call them child molesters.
Don't go Greek on me. lol!!! This is American history, not sure what you mean by "others". Remember it's the new world and according to some Europeans America doesn't have a history. I always thought that was funny when someone would say that. Cheers!
@USA0806 lol sorry should hav been more clear..what i meant by 'others' is not necessarily a distinction of race, but even for example, if a Chinese, for e.g. was to study Chinese history, the difference in time and by extension culture/normative practice, actually makes the modern Chinese a "other" in comparison to the Chinese in history he/she is studying. Basically, we should understand the values that may change over time, and hence perhaps withhold judgement
I understand, I was joking. I love history. I may not appreciate some of the events that took place, but we learn from it. Right? It just creeps me out to see a much older guy "romatically" involved with a younrger girl (or vise versa). The most important thing I have learned from history is that I am grateful to have been born of these times.
Ceomeye- The Irish people are indigenous to Ireland. So they are indigenous people. The native americans(indians) in the USA are immigrants from central Asia.
Central Asia? Why, because the white man says they are from asians? stop fukn making up myths. Europeans have a myth for everthing, except that they are Albinos!!!
haha i think you guys need to refresh your history ... SUPPOSEOVLY all the contenents on earth were connected together which was called "Pangaea" later on all the continents split apart to there normal places on the earth today so i guess you can say ONCE Native Americans lived in Asia ... but it is a FACT that Native Americans were the first to be in America not the white people.
Hey, this is a movie, not reality. First of all facts say that Pochohontas and J. Smith were friends, never lovers. She was only 12 or 13 when she met him, but 400 years ago it was not unusual for a 13 yr old to marry as their life spans were not that long. But she was not in love with Smith ever. Why be creeped out by a movie? Their only actors plart a part.
She was 14 when making this movie, is no one else crept out by the age difference between her and Colin Ferrell? I mean, I find that creepy. Really creepy; he's hot and everything, but still...
Thank you to everyone for posting your comments on the movie. I have never seen it and after seeing this clip I am going to buy it and cry my eyes out as well. Thank you EvieDoesItBetter for posting this!
The New World takes my breath away. It is so REAL and moving and... there are no words potent or beautiful enough to describe this movie. OH GOD what I wouldn't give to have been alive back then, experiencing the earth as the Native Americans were so fortunate and blessed to have done. The air, the water- it was all so pure back then. Q'Orianka is far beyond amazing and beautiful in this movie.
the mother of pocahontas in this movie was the voice of pocahontas in the animated movies and physical body they used to model the animated pocahontas.
I was disappointed by this as john smith suddenly just disappeared and then came back, it seemed silly that he went and came back - they should have only had smith or not had the other dude
I know!!!! It is ridiculous becuase all along you are rooting for smith and Pocahontas to be together, and she ends up with rolfe. I watched this movie and cried because she and smith did not end up together! WTF. They said this was a good romance, it wasnt. He was still in love with her while she had a kid with someone else, though she still loved him.
