This scene is loosely based on the Wonderland gang. The guy in the robe is Eddie Nash the notorious drug dealer/club owner in LA back in the 70's and 80's. John Holmes tipped them off on the safe Eddie Nash had and they ripped him off only to be slaughtered later on.

I love that Jesse's girl is about envy and how they use it here. Some people ask "Aren't they thinking.." and the whole point is, no one is. John C. This "is" of the best directed scenes in cinema history in my opinion. I enjoyed Boogie Nights... who didn't...? However, I wouldn't say it is in my top 20 films. This scene, the directing, the set, the acting, is in my top ten scenes of all time from a directing" stand-point. You never forget it. It's unique, on edge, and makes you as tense as the actors are portraying. Fantastically well-done and of the best in movie history in my opinion. Great directing in the movie in general
