I was given this computer at work back on August 2010, and it was a weird issue with Wireless Conection, you sometimes lose conectivity and you wont be able to get it back on unless restart - (other colleagues have the same issue) - Besides this annoying fact or having a patchcord around, its a pretty good and solid one
@hermesmata out of curiosity, did your IT department configure Wi-Fi using Windows Wireless or Lenovo ThinkVantage Access Manager? In the past, ones I notice dropping Wi-Fi like how you decribed are often remedied by using the Lenovo's Wi-Fi manager instead of Windows. I know that sounds lame, but it is what it is...
@5thChairViolist This design basically hasn't really changed over many years and that tells us that the design has been solid and not a fad that goes out of style. I dig too. Although not the most sexiest looking thing ever...
Amazing laptop...now if only they'd make a custom aesthetically pleasing one for me. I like the Matte finish but it just looks too bland. Of course it's probably a trade off for being built like a tank.
Hey techgearguy I have a question. I am 2 days away from recieving the t510 I ordered during a awesome sale 2 weeks ago. I got a i560 with 4 gig ram, 320 gig 7200 rpm drive, upgradede wifi to 6200 and the nvidia 310, along with win 7 pro. All for $958 with tax. It is about 200ish more now and a similar t520 is 300 more. Do you think the 2nd gen intel i5 is worth the extra cash? I will be doing djing using serato scratch live and audio editing and mixing using Cubase 5 with a firewire audio crd.
I hate Lenovo so bad the Lenovo G560 laptop trackpad suck big ball . Most of the time i bought Lenovo It was good but, this one product suck big ball so bad i want to slap Lenovo. Stay alway from Lenovo G560 laptop it a warning if you don't want a crappy trackpad.
Thinking of getting a lenovo thinkpad, but are they too business oriented. I want something fast and high performance not sure if its TOO business oriented though. I'm a student.
OMG im used to seeing great reviews for the thinkpads ive had high end dell percision notebooks macbook pros.i have a $3900 clevo gaming notebook 11lbs.at one time or another have all needed a repair the macs battery went out after 1 month.but my 6 year old thinkpad.zero repairs still rock solid and it never leaves my worktruck the stickers come right off i used my fingernail and some orange oil for the residue left behind.
in my humble opinion this laptop is a beast of endurance and thougness the only other laptop you can compare with this is a dell latitude you can find a c400 or a thinkpad t42 or earliest mod and still running great thats my people is a perfect example of endurance and thougness.
No smart card reader on this one? How are you pleased with the speakers? In your opinion would it be possible to watch movies on this laptop, or the sound is too quiet?
thinkpads are great i hav eone tht i have had for as long as i cn remember im 15 wen my desktop brokedown like 3 weeks ago i took this one out n like blew off the dust and it works better than the newer desktop. the laptops are great i have a IBM Thinkpad T20
@asumazilla The laptop itself only has a VGA port and a display port. If you want other things like a DVI port, you will get that from a port replicator or a docking station they put out.
@manerac Well clearly it isn't about not knowing how to peel 'em off. It's about why a machine has to come with a bunch of meaningless marketing material blasted all over such a great machine? I've seen worse, but this was to be noticed.
@TechGearGuy I believe the stickers are there because Intel et al pays manufacturers to include them. so it is a way to keep costs lower for the end user. Check one of the posts on lenovoblogs I think I saw it there. If you think about it it would have to be some economic decision otherwise why would manufacturers put these ugly stickers on.
@manerac Yeah, techguy makes a good point. The stickers make the product, in this case the laptop, look less clean or in my eyes, somewhat "cheap" and immature, almost toy-ish. The cleaner style of the Macbook is one of the reasons why its so hugely popular (obviously its build quality and internal features also make it great) Anyway, awesome review.
I was wondering if there is any stuttering on HD video playback at 1080p... and another small question... are the integrated and discrete graphics switchable?
@aveenPulimi There is no stuttering on HD video playback even using on-board Intel Graphics Accelerator. The test unit I used for the review did not have discrete video. Sorry.
@Benjastina I wouldn't let that bother you. I have accidentally dropped my T410 as it slid out of my SUV and hit the concrete pavement dead square. It is a very solidly built unit.
Nice video! I'm considering buying one soon. But before getting it, I would like to know how the gaming looks like on this machine, especially StarCraft 2. Could it be possible to benchmark StarCraft 2 on this machine and show us the results? The beta is available as a torrent. honestly i think it would be kinda wrong to be gaming on the thinkpad, but i play starcraft as well was hoping starcraft2 would run smoothly on this because im currently heading towards the next step of education, and i need to get a laptop, took me awhile to settle down on T410
There appears to be a huge amount of flex in that screen, something that continually crops up in reviews...I feel that the build quality compared to the T400 has been decreased signifigantly in many areas, but is obviously faster and more "up-to-date" than the venerable and improved T400. I would prefer to buy a T400 than a T410, even if it is a little slower. If I want speed, my tower delivers. If I want longevity in both battery performance and the product itself, the T400 wins overall.
With everything working as normal, (no dim screen, WiFi blasting, iTunes going, normal activity as in mail processing), it's anywhere from 4hrs10min to below 5 full hours.
Thanks for the nice Review of the T410! I have a question concerning the durability: I heard that the T410 does not have a Magnesium Rollcage (especially in the Displaylid). Have you ever removed the Lid of the Display? Or what do you think in generell about the durability?
It is true that the T410 is lacking the roll cage in the display lid side of things. I haven't had one which I needed to take apart but the laptop is solid. I had one actually slide out from my SUV backseat right onto concrete parking lot with decent impact but no scars no issues.
Is that the 9-cell or 6-cell? If it's the 9-cell, does the 6-cell stick out like that as well? I know the Thinkpad isn't about looks, but 6-cells at least shouldn't stick out like that.
6cell battery fits flush. 9cell sticks out. Then there is the motherload battery that they call 27++ which fits like a small docking station obviously adding "heft" to the whole thing.
It's not that there is no mic jack. They combined the headphone jack and mic jack into a single headset jack, so that one can use their cell phone headset (and many VOIP headset) on their T410.
You are aboslutely right about the jack. In such a hurry to get a review out, I didn't look at the jack carefully enough - that is my fault entirely. I take what I do seriuosly and misrepresenting something like that on a review is terrible. My apologies.
The stickers - I was talking about the initial presentation. I once saw a netbook that had 8 stickers on it and something like that is what rubs me the wrong way. I just don't feel like busting out a "Goo-Gone" when I get a new laptop. :)
