As an English atheist, I have eaten Halal meat on a couple of occasions, specifically goat meat which is predominantly Halal in my area. I have a preference for the animal being stunned prior to slaughter, however Muslims seem ahead of the rest of us in recognising the value of goats for their lean and healthy meat. Whether or not stunning is used, the animal needs to have as quick a death as possible. I'm sure Halal slaughterers can do better. And more non-Halal butchers need to stock goat!

I do not eat animals or animal derivatives. In terms of animal welfare, halal and shecita slaughter is just despicable. Many Islamic groups are now stating that pre-stunning is acceptable as long as the stunning itself does not kill the animal. If your religion doesn't allow you to eat meat from a pre-stunned animal, the only humanitarian thing to do is go vegetarian. My comment is about animal welfare and not religious intolerance. I am Christian - Catholic.
I strongly suspect that halal slaughter is so widespread in the UK, not for religious reasons, but simply because it's a cheaper way of killing animals. Retail food pricing is such a cut throat business (sorry for the pun).

I have been vegetarian for almost one week now following this video. When I went to the supermarket I saw the meat layed out on the counter and just couldn't touch the stuff. Instead I bought chesnut flour, nuts, lentils, semolina, seeds and beans, as well as all the other non meat produce and veg I would have bought anyway. Well stone the crows it has been the best stuff i've ever eaten. I really feel good. The cooking is more fun too. No more Marxist toilet dinner for me. Thank God.
It has everything to do with money and nothing to do with religion. Christmas cards were banned through corporate lobbying by the card industry so they could make extra sales of greetings cards from non christian customers. The meat industry has lobbied for the legality of this kind of slaughter because it costs less. No other reason. If you really want an end to it then stop buying it. The meat industry will soon go back to the full stunning method to regain the lost profits.

I do not eat animals or animal derivatives. In terms of animal welfare, halal and shecita slaughter is just despicable. Many Islamic groups are now stating that pre-stunning is acceptable as long as the stunning itself does not kill the animal. If your religion doesn't allow you to eat meat from a pre-stunned animal, the only humanitarian thing to do is go vegetarian. My comment is about animal welfare and not religious intolerance. I am Christian - Catholic.

I strongly suspect that halal slaughter is so widespread in the UK, not for religious reasons, but simply because it's a cheaper way of killing animals. Retail food pricing is such a cut throat business (sorry for the pun).

It is not halal to slaughter an animal in front of another, which I saw in the video.
It is not halal to throw the animal around an mistreat it in the way I saw in the video.

I have been vegetarian for almost one week now following this video. When I went to the supermarket I saw the meat layed out on the counter and just couldn't touch the stuff. Instead I bought chesnut flour, nuts, lentils, semolina, seeds and beans, as well as all the other non meat produce and veg I would have bought anyway. Well stone the crows it has been the best stuff i've ever eaten. I really feel good. The cooking is more fun too. No more Marxist toilet dinner for me. Thank God.

It has everything to do with money and nothing to do with religion. Christmas cards were banned through corporate lobbying by the card industry so they could make extra sales of greetings cards from non christian customers. The meat industry has lobbied for the legality of this kind of slaughter because it costs less. No other reason. If you really want an end to it then stop buying it. The meat industry will soon go back to the full stunning method to regain the lost profits.

There is now, less demand for British slaughterhouses.
The exemption was only meant for meat for Muslim consumption but it has been exploited and is now served to all.
The religion itself though still plays a major part in this cruelty.
Halal should be totally banned in the UK.

The purpose of halal meat is to produce a meat full of adrenaline, this is achieved by the animal dying a horrific death which leaves it's meat shot full of adrenaline.
This was science known to ancient Persian armies who tortured animals to death to produce this adrenaline filled meat for their warriors.

Large companies don't want to say anything because they don't want to be tarred with any anti-Muslim sentiment, no matter how barbaric and awful it is. The fact that the RSPCA are silent says it all. Maybe they don't want their offices fire bombed, but there are many examples of people and businesses standing up and subsequently being victims to Islamic based violence and terror as a result.

I didn't know about halal meat products until a couple of weeks ago. I do eat meat and i'm also a big animal lover. This sickening video makes me feel ashamed to be British. How can we possibliy be moving our society back in time? I'm at a total loss with this situation, how can we ever trust the food industry to be straight with us if they'll do this to us via the back door. Also don't beleive what they tell you in the supermarkets. Halal meat is not stunned first. If it is stunned first then it is NOT halal and the supermarkets etc wouldn't want to offend their masters by selling non-halal meat as halal would they?

I love eating meat, I'd never give it up, I know an animal has to die so I can fill my belly, the least I can do is thank it and ensure it has a swift painless death. Halal meat, where the last moments of the animal are spent is utmost pain, terror and hopelessness...all because of their 7th century Arabic religion...and they actually expect to be treated with respect!

This was one of the most upsetting and disgusting things I have ever seen. It would be easy to ignore and avoid the subject, this would give the supermarkets the green light to make everything halal.
It must be stopped. Where are the RSPCA? The silence is deafening.
Demand that all meat must have proper labelling,

@TheKillerShrews The RSPCA know about this practice and they have double standards, if avergae joe was to do this, we would be prosecuted, but muslims are allowed by the RSPCA to do this.
I remember when places were getting bombed for doing tests on mice, seems the people connected with them aren't bothered about halal butchering.

@TheKillerShrews The RSPCA only care about getting the money rolling in. A while ago I called them about an ill fox hanging around near my house. They didnt want to know and passed me onto a couple of hard-up fox charities, yet the RSPCA is the biggest and wealthiest of the lot. After that I got loads of letters begging for money. They don't want to upset the Charities Commission, a government quango chaired by Labour supporter Suzi Leather, so they avoid the halal issue. Spineless bastards.

This is why I called Campbell's Soup last week to complain after I heard they have gone halal with certification by ISNA (a terror-tied group in the US). Our Muslim President Obama supports this too, since as a senator in Illinois sponsored halal legislation.
