Same thing my LG Envy 2 does lol. Gotta get the phone in a shadow to see anything. But reguardless of the out door visibility and lag with the desktop widgets... I'm sooo getting this phone haha :-p
if you wanna know how the AMOLED display fares under direct sunlight, just compare it to how a standard TFT, (ie. HD2), screen display fares under direct sunlight. Whilst it's true that it's difficult to see things on AMOLED under the sun (even with backlight on full power - I have tried it myself), at least you DO see them. On the other hand, you wouldn't see a thing on a TFT screen under direct sunlight.
Omnia II also has 16m colors, the only problem is that the Windows Mobile limit it to 65k. It's a big shame, but both device was made with the same AMOLED screen technology so the difference is just that the Omnia II has a larger screen and resolution, but the HD has unlimited colors!
BTW, HD has a 8MP camera, but Omnia II has better hardwares! And they're not in the same category, 'cause II is a PDA and HD is a smartphone!
omnia hd has full 16mill colours coz its not limited by windows (it uses nokias symbian os) and has 8mp camera and uses capacitive touch (more responsive) though im sure the Advanced R type touch screen on the omnia II is up to the task. So i recokn physical specs wise, omnia hd is better, but omnia II has windows mobile which allows u to tweak it to however u want and simply to do watever u want with the phone lol. i rekon a windows fone is always good to have so id go with omnia II
yes! adjust the setting its very very bright. you know what i have samsung jet and i set it to only level 3 coz very bright wat if you set on level 5 wow very nice screen
i was about to buy omnia pro :(...is it really so bad? i mean the outdoor visibility...and if it's true...which phone is better in conditions like this?
Don't get the "brightness" and backlight settings mixed up. I think most people including the pocketnow reviewer is mistaking the brightness levels for the backlight. You can adjust the brightness level and also switch on the backlight which will make your screen look awesome in sunlight
I have this phone and i definitely wont on the auto brightness. But if you set the brightness manually, It is the best contrast and i can see it clearly.. So this video is stupid..
turn off the auto backlight... its absolutely garbage, even when ur low light, the auto backlight cant give u the correct brightness, just set at about 50% and its already very legible :] anything above that is just to showoff LOL
The verdict is in: everyone who has recommended to turn the auto setting off is correct. The screen is fine with backlighting at half - at full strength it's incredible.
I phone works really well in the sun but then again it uses the backlight while the AMOLED screen does not. But turn off that stupid auto brightness and you can see a lot better. Oh and every LG I've ever owned sucks in the sun.
AMOLED is great, resistive touch membranes reduce sunlight visibility. But it is a minor disadvantage compared to the major advantages. LCD is also hardly readable outdoors. I never want to look into a retarted LCD anymore.

The price of the Omnia HD: 549 €
The price of the Omnia 2 : 499€

what is better?
Daniazco 2 years ago
I think the omnia hd is better becouse the omnia II has only 65000 colors and the omnia hd has 16000000 colors and both have a 5 mp camera .

A comparison to a non-AMOLED (iPhone? touch pro 2) would be nice, without comparison its really hard to judge.

I have a samsung jet. if you set the brightness well, you can watch the clear screen on the street~or.. wherever.
There's nothing better than AMOLED display.
Anika4Love 2 years ago 4
If you search for another clip watching it wil blind your eyes because of the strong reflection from the sun on the reflective screen, lol.

1. It's the opposite. At sunlight you need more brightness to see.

cesarqp 2 years ago 2
OLED will fix this problem for sure. We just need to wait for it to become standard.
PoetryRocksAlot 2 years ago
I would imagine because AMOLEDS have no backlight right so bad for outdoors :(
MajinFrahma 2 years ago
That's not right. AMOLED can make light itself. so It can show more bright and clear screen wherever you are.
Because of it's clear screen, I just amazed when I got Samsung Jet. Maybe that problem caused by auto birghtness setting.
Anika4Love 2 years ago 3
u should have reviewed it also with auto bright off than that would of been a fair shot

I have this same problem with my Samsung SGH-A707 aka the Samsung Sync.
