i can't imagine why quicktime wouldn't work. quicktime animation compression would probably be best.
personally, though, i'd rather roto in after effects with the vector paint tool. just me though.

oh no no. we had one week to do this particular video. i did it mostly over the span of two days.
we had four weeks of similar projects. it was tedious.
